Where I discover the generation gap between myself and current players

I follow a handful of current and former players on social media. I generally refrain from commenting on their posts, but it's fun to see the "other side" of VT football.

AJ Hughes posted this photo and I decided I should comment on it.

It was then I realized how much younger these kids are:

sigh...

This.

Leonard. Duh.

I never had Street Fighter. I only had one fighting game ever and it was Mortal Kombat II I think. I was never into those. Until Super Smash Brothers (Gamecube).

However, I still know what a hadouken is.

what the...we have members pushing 3K turkey legs? Where the hell have I been?

Ah the good old days, this brings back memories. But how long could it be played today before the inevitable "screw this its boring now" comes.

Smash Brothers was/is awesome. We routinely had 8 guys in one dorm room playing the Nintendo 64 version for hours. I seem to remember living off-campus at the time but still hanging out in the dorms to play. Hmm, that sounds a lot lamer now than it did then.

Yes! Scorpion and SubZero. I used Scorpion. GET OVER HERE!!!

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Some delicious irony on this thread. The initial premise is that AJ is too young to know what Street Fighter is.

In reality, it seems like ohherro is the young one referring this current meme, and Hughes is the one that is older.

I have no problem with being thought of as younger than I truly am.

It seems I have the opposite problem....I'm too old to know what you were talking about. Fortunately, for me, there is the google machine. Now I know.

I could use the code to skip to Tyson, but I never could beat Super Macho Man. That SOB just to demolish me.

It also took me a long time to solve King Hippo. Fitting I guess.

King Hippo? Really? He was cake, punch him in the "x" on his fat belly then uppercut the crap out of him. Sandman gave me fits for a while too. Don Flemenco was the softest SOB on the game.

Absolutely. I played Contra for days straight.

Win one for the Beamer...

On my Commodore 64 son!!

Up down, up down, left right, left right, b a, start son.

Win one for the Beamer...

I was an NES kid, no Commodore 64 here. But I remember it as up, up, down, down, left, right, left right, b, a, select, start. Two player.

There it is. Me and my cousin played that game everyday. My memory getting bad but I remember putting in that code everytime. Thanks for the refresher Horse.

Win one for the Beamer...

Was I the only one who also played the other Contra like game "LifeForce"? Same cheats codes and everything.

Most certainly got the NES upgrade. Anyone cheat it up with a game genie??

Game Genie FT(illegitimate)W.

Don't forget about Battletoads. This game was amazing. Second level on the speeder bikes was INSANELY hard.

Oh my goodness was it ever. But it was so much fun. And this was the level where I discovered the pause stomp.

haha, tonkaberlin and I would play that game all the time. Every time one of us would accidentally hit the other one in the game and then an all out fight would ensue.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

If we're going to talk abiut old school you cany overlook the original Zelda and BionicCommando. Still play those from time to time when i remember about emulators!

in Fuller we trust

Its been a while since I've played them, but I have the first 3 Wing Commander games set up to run on DoxBox. I also have all of LucasArts' X-Wing/TIE Fighter games, but don't need emulation for them.

I applaud your choice in gaming sir. the XvT series is one of the better sims out there. And WC is classic too.

I'm still waiting for an expansion to X-Wing: Alliance that continues after the DS2 attack finishing out the plot with Antan after the Kessel mission. I know it won't come, since its been 12 years since the game was released, but I'd still love to see it.

Agree, always felt like there is a lot more that could have come from the endings of the XWA storyline, but I feel like since realistic sims seemed to take a drop-off at that point, LucasArts decided to shift to more of an arcade style flier, like Rouge Squadron instead. Still a good series, but yeah, I wish XWA could have had more of a conclusion/sequel

My short-term life's goal? To beat the original Zelda without dying.

Last time I played, I died only once.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

TIGER UPPERCUT!

How about some good old sports games like Tecmo bowl and super tecmo bowl. They brought people together for hours trying to play a whole season.

QB Eagles ftw
