The news that Marshawn Williams will have to end his football career is absolutely disheartening.
I had an opportunity when he first committed to get a full game video of Marshawn going against Ricky Walker (who played middle linebacker for Bethel that game to try and counteract Marshawn.) Marshawn's quick feet in the hole coupled with his power were spectacular- better than any running back recruit that had seriously considered Virginia Tech going back to Ryan Williams. Prior to his first ACL tear, I was absolutely convinced that Marshawn would become an elite player at Virginia Tech and would have an NFL career.
What we saw at Virginia Tech was merely a shell of his former self, even during his freshman year. He never recovered his lateral movement following his first injury. I don't know if seemingly very fast timeline he return from each injury factored into his ultimate decision to cut his career short, but it could not have helped.
Unfortunately, because Williams did not put up huge numbers as a Hokie, his career will likely not receive much fanfare going forward and that is unfortunate. Williams gave every bit of effort that he could have given to get every inch out of every carry that his battered knee could produce. Essentially running on one leg, every single carry for Marshawn caused your pulse rate to rise as a fan because you knew his legs would churn and churn and get every single possible foot of gridiron. I'd imagine that if you had an opportunity to poll opposing ACC defenders, they would affirm that Marshawn Williams left an impression on them.
Here is hoping that he uses his degree to have tremendous professional success, and that any chronic effects to his knees will be minimal.

Well said. This is a sad day indeed; however, the sadness is overcome by the fact that he has always been a true Hokie all the way, and has pledged to remain as such. His future is bright!
He reminded me of Marshawn Lynch. Too bad Marshawn Williams will not win a SB as a player. Hopefully he can win one as a RB coach. # BEAST MODE.
Well Said.
To Marshawn:
Tough guy and a true Hokie. To come back in post-injury and help win the game against Notre Dame was awesome.
Huge runs in program defining wins. And always maximum effort with the ball in his hands- with a smile.
The guy always fell forward and always popped right back up after every play, all the while never showboating one bit. Ultimate team player, and I'm glad he's staying at Tech until he graduates.
Damn shame, This Guy had Mad Heart, I loved the way he ran with the football, and he always looked happy and positive. He's the type of player I want on my team all day, any day.....
Great power runner. Seems like a good guy and will be remembered as
a great Hokie. Glad he's staying at Tech.
I would love to hear more about his effort during the ND game this year. I believe he injured his knee in the game and came back on one good leg, then scored a TD during the comeback. That couldn't sum up Marshawn Williams any better IMO. It is a real shame and my heart goes out to him, but I'll never forget his contributions against OSU in the Shoe and his heart that he showed in South Bend.
Here, here French....very well said my man. I felt the same way about Marshawn and saw the sky as the limit. Sorry to see this happen, but he's got a great head on his shoulders, priorities right and will be extremely successful in whatever he does. WTG Hokie!
I'll never forget how hard JUICE42 ran when he touched that football in 2014 before getting plagued with the ACL injury. You could immediately tell he was truly something special! Absolutely loved his TD contribution at tOSU!
It'd be awesome if he, one day, let's future JUICE42 offspring become the next generation Hokies.

He was a dude. From the massive power runs to the dreads. I thought he could have been a really special player for us. The injury bug however is unforgiving. Honestly, I believe he is making the right decision. Best of luck to you Marshawn.
We never really got see this...
Kid could ball.
