The ECU Pirate is currently beating our beloved Hokie Bird over at the Capital One Bowl Mascot challenge. This will not do...considering the first week, there were plenty of links all over FB and such, we had a huge win over our last opponent.

The last time the Hokie Bird was in the Mascot Challenge we lost because after the first week, people seemed to stop voting. I KNOW we have the fan base to win this. People just need to keep showing up and voting every week.

Well for one, we prevent some bullsh*t, p_ssy, pirate from beating the Hokie Bird. That's more than enough for me, this week at least.

Keep on voting, our lead is slipping. I haven't seen any posts on the Virginia Tech FB or anything to help us out. The first week, we had the highest percentage of votes. Some stupid purple pirate goes against us and it's this close?
Oh, and to answer the question, the winner gets $20,000 donated to the scholarship fund at the end of it all. The Texas Tech Red Raider won last year, and we know we can be better than their fan base, if we work together.

Yes! I have a tab open on my browser and in my spare moments (between conference calls) I vote a dozen times or so. Only takes a few moments. I must admit, I - like probably most Hokie Football Fans - am inherently competitive. And this is my way of getting "in the game" for my Alma Mater. Plus that pirate just pisses me off.

I have made a game out of the # challenge as well. Almost like our Sam Rogers jokes. For instance: #CapitalOneHokie The Hokie Bird Can play DT (Defensive Tackle) because Hokie Birds naturally tackle invaders of their territory. Especially hostile envaders, like...pirates.
Yes, this. I see that tweets including the #CapitalOneHokie hashtag get 25 votes and a photograph of yourself playing the position with the hashtag gets lots of points.

The most creative submissions will be featured in the Mascot Challenge Gallery and weekly Matchup Highlight Reels. I would love to see a string of TKP members winning that week in and week out. We have talent to do it.

Nice. I believe there are also add-on scripts for Firefox (and maybe Chrome) that automate simple actions. I used one for FF back in the day on some similar competition.
Good to know. I figured there had to be about a billion easier ways to do it, but my programming and computer know-how drops off pretty rapidly outside of MatLab. It's all I know.

I love the idea, and I don't know how they'd find out unless somebody tells them, but per the rules, programs like this are not allowed and risk forfeiture of not only the votes accrued by the method, but of all votes to that point.
EDIT to include from their "Official Rules":
"Limit: Eligible voters may complete as many Challenges as they like during each Voting
Period. Any attempt by any voter to obtain points for a Mascot by any fraudulent or
inappropriate means, including without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to
members of the public as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, by using any automated program, by using any other methods, will void those points for the Mascot and

Again, I wouldn't know how they'd figure out it was MatLab mimicking a mouse click, when in the computer it registers as the same exact thing.
#CapitalOneHokie When the Hokie Bird lines up at safety it is anything but safe for opposing offenses. That is why I think that when the Hokie Bird plays safety the announcers should call the postion something like: "danger" or "apocalypse".

Or you can place your red stapler on it and walk away. We stress test applications by putting something on a key and going home for the day sometimes.
So I think all my thousands of votes were discovered to be automated and removed (which they were, so therefore according to the rules, disallowed legitimately). I'm wondering how Texas Tech won last year, though, because it's a tech school with an insignificant fan base, so I figured they would have automated something.
