VT put out a press release about the new seats coming next fall. Sounds like every section will be getting some, but the ones in the student section won't be padded. Fans will have a chance to check them out at different events at Cassell in the next few weeks, it sounds like.

God Bless you Whit!

We just started a Legend of Sam Rogers thread.
There needs to be a Legend of Whit Babcock thread.
Whit's family crest is a picture of a baracudda eating Neil Armstrong
His poop is considered currency in Argentina.
Maybe Whit has already addressed this, but I'm interested in what impact the wider seats have on capacity. I would assume there will be a slight decrease (and I saw David Teel tweet something similar as I was typing this).
It mentions it at the end of the release. Will decrease slightly, but they don't know exact numbers yet.
Thank you sir! That's what I get for not taking the time to read the full release.
It's the lower bowl from the floor to the portals (rows A through about N or O), minus the student section since they stand most of the game. On the sidelines its two seats per row; the corners are where it will depend on spacing of each individual row. So anywhere around a 300 to 400 seat decrease.
I say replace the seats with wooden bleacher benches, and we could get 20,000 into Cassell. It would add to the ambiance of Cassell, plus, with those accommodations, the fans would either be standing or on the edge of their seats the entire game. Add fried bologna sandwiches and Schlitz for a buck each at the concessions, and we'd have the makings of a raucous crowd or a riot, but I'm leaning towards the former.
20,000? What? Why would you want to see mostly empty Cassell?
There's no way it will be empty with those concessions, just a higher max. capacity after the removal of seats. It's amazing how much space is gained through the removal of arm rests. I mean, 20,000 might be a little overly ambitious, but 15,000 is reasonable, even after the addition of a few extra banks of restrooms that might be needed as a result of the increased concession sales. Once complete, we can rename it The Buzz Barn @ Cassell Coliseum.
Average attendance this year was around 6-7,000.
Maybe if we didn't get Sunday noon, and 9 pm starts on school nights attendance would be better.
Another great move by Whit! We'll see what they do with the old seats... Everything about the last few methodical upgrades to Cassell seems responsible, which is awesome
The color will have a huge impact on the overall atmosphere during games, especially the undersold games IMO. Nothing stands out more than empty hard wood.
I WANT one of those old seats. Please, Whit, don't miss this amazing fundraising opportunity.
Whit is listening!
Awesome news, thanks for the link!
