Bad news for the Hokies. One of Tech's top coaches is heading out the door. Let's see if Whit can hit another coaching home run.

Welp. I trust Whit to make a good hire, but this still sucks.
Unfortunate but it is what it is
Feels like the program might have hit a ceiling we can't crack through with the teams at the very top dominating like they do. He might have the ability at ISU to finally break through with the resources that area has with the sport
Hokies have the best chance of any team outside the Big Ten to win a championship other than Oklahoma State. Iowa State has a lower ceiling than Virginia Tech right now.
Brock Lesnar for VT Wrestling coach. Make it happen, Whit!

I really want to take a leg here.
Single-leg or double-leg?
That is just weak. VT has been a stepping stone in too many sports. I never saw Dresser leaving... to have this happen to the program twice is insane
What VT head coaches have left us recently and been successful?
In wrestling or any sport?
Brands was a short timer anyway. His dream job was Iowa but there was a stipulation that he had to have D1 head coaching experience. So he hangs at VT for a couple of years for that very reason. He picked up a few 5* recruits and 1 even redshirted then they all followed him to Iowa. Weaver should NEVER of hired him.
Just found this. Shitstorm!
See Ya
He redshirted the entire class and was actively recruiting for Iowa while being paid by VT. What Brands did to Tech nearly destroyed the entire wrestling program. Luckily Dresser revived it and made it nationally relevant.
The timing of this is weird and I am hoping it is not true but nothing from Babcock has me worried. I'm sure he will have some questions to answer at the dual tomorrow.
Cue "what the @$&@" gif
Extremely disappointing that this has happened. I thought Dresser was 100% Hokie.
He's from Iowa, he's going home to the last job he will likely have unless Iowa offers. Can't really blame him, only thank him for making VT the top ACC school for wrestling.
Kevin has coached in SW Virginia for the last 30 years. Iowa isn't his home...Southwest Virginia is. I doubt he's going anywhere.
This is what I was thinking. He has been at VT for over 10 and was in Christiansburg before that. What does he really have there except maybe aging friends and family? Nothing else is going to be like it was because it's been too long. Dude has built a program up, the first collegiate job he had. Heard Iowa State Daily isn't necessary a reliable source.
Don't forget Grundy before C-Burg. That's where I first met him. I wrestled for one of Grundy's district opponents back then and I found it hard to root against Kevin or his team because of how he ran his program. Just a class act all the way.
I am starting to wonder if this could be the case of a student beat writer for ISU running with a source he thought was reliable. The irony could be that this getting out so early may backfire on ISU and keep KD in Blacksburg. At least that is how I am hoping it plays out at this point.
WTH?
Same story, different coach, I was hoping this was behind us since Whit was hired but apparently we still need to figure out how to make successful coach's stay. I think the issue is perception of VT athletics that needs to change, getting a national championship in anything would go a long way, but until then we will be a non-blue blood football school with second rate olympic sports. I still trust Whit and have a lot of confidence in the future but it needs to be said that it will be an uphill battle.
Great place to remind people to join the Hokie Club.
Reading Dresser's comments this morning, this analysis is almost 100% incorrect.
Crap
Well if he's gonna leave this year, he may as well win a natty before he goes.*
*DISCLAIMER: I know this isn't very likely...
From a VT source
Guerry says otherwise.
And now he deleted it. Weird.
Yeah, this whole thing seems weird. Guess Guerry got out in front of his skis.
This could also mean that Whit just called Dresser up and said, "have I got a deal for you!"
Gotta think it's something along these lines. Whit wants any team national championship. He isn't about to let his best shot at that walk without a fight.
Coach speak for I'm not announcing until after the season. Wouldn't want the team to be let down. Even if it is premature they are obviously talking.
Why wouldn't this wait until the season ends?
Why did the announce that Rachel was going to be the Bachelorette when Nick HASN'T EVEN KICKED HER OFF THE SHOW YET! Just spoilers for days man, Rachel + Nick would have make a great couple and now it's all ruined! Ruined!
It couldn't wait until after the season because several committed recruits asked for their release after ISU's current head coach announced his departure. They need to get a new coach in place ASAP so they can try to keep those guys committed.
If Whit doesn't get this guy, he's a terrible AD:
Starts chanting "John Cena Suuuuuuucks"
Brings up a good point. How good can Dresser really be if none of the guys he's coached have gone pro?
Man, I just watched Train wreck and John Cena was fucking hilarious.
Iowa State's coach that just resigned was making 155k a year. Last figure I saw had Dresser making 150k a year. So, unless they offered him a crazy deal I doubt money is the driving factor.
I just want to know why anybody would choose to live in Iowa over Virginia
Really! Pittsburgh is home for me but I ain't going back.
Best to you Kevin. Thanks for the great years.
Coach Robie for Hc, get Devin Carter on the staff full time.
Rick Steiner anyone? anyone?

He does have collegiate wrestling experience.
Another update for this can't come soon enough.
The dual is at 6:30 tonight, if he is staying then I would expect to hear something before that.
If he is leaving then I would expect an official announcement tomorrow. If that is the case then I wonder if he coaches for the ACC and NCAA tournaments? He deserves it if he wants to, but probably kind of an awkward situation.
KD said last night that if he left, he would not be coaching the postseason tournaments, but he'll be there as a fan cheering for the Hokies. He sounded like he's already bought his tickets, which can't be a good sign.
Really hoping that Whit can make it worth his while to stay if this isn't him wanting to go back home to coach at Gables alma mater. I really thought he may be a lifer.
If not best of luck at Ames and I'm glad for everything he did for VT after Brands and of course at Grundy and Christiansburg as well.
Coaching wise this will be kind of difficult as I don't think we can do anywhere close to as good of a coach, but maybe Zaddick or St. John might get a chance.
What are Dresser's assistants paid? Could ISU be his UNC?
Here are some of the latest details on the Dresser situation:

Thanks for the update.
Well better news than what I am thinking!

If we were placing bets mine would be on , He gone.
Yep he gone.
What makes you so confident?
Just how the statement is worded.
Reads to me that Whit's doing all he can but the idea of going home is enticing to Dresser. Not really anyone's fault if this is the case, and you can't blame Dresser for going if he does in fact leave. Hope very badly we keep him though.
Decent crowd. Devin is on TV!
Muderers row coming up!
Up 18-15 with one bout left!
When that bout is ty, I'm not even a little worried.
EDIT: BOOM! Major decision. Hokies win 22-15.
Just my own speculation after reading the statement a few times: I think he was leaving but has had second thoughts, partly due to a stronger-than-expected counter offer. Whit's component of the statement would have been shorter if this were a done deal.
I hope he stays but the program is in good shape either way, and another good coach will be hired if needed.
