Quincy Patterson committing today

https://www.hudl.com/profile/4186366/quincy-patterson

6'4", 230 lb 3-star dual threat quarterback, 14 power-5 offers. Looking like a Hokie. Beat out UNC, UVA, Miss State, Penn State. It's also great to beat out Syracuse for QBs, because Dino Babers is looking for good ones.

Also holds offers from Yale and Princeton, indicating that he must be very cerebral.

Thoughts:

Probably our best running QB on the roster. Very good lateral ability, and definitely not afraid of contact.

He is a very nonchalant passer - he looks very comfortable / casual in the pocket and has a very compact, quick release. He looks like he is just out there playing catch with friends. Definitely stares down 1 primary receiver.

He is a very nonchalant passer

Good, because I hate chalant passers

It took a few years of intensive therapy for me to transform from nonchalant to chalant.....I really feel bad for this guy.

Quincy to the good guys FAM!!!

Fire Whit.

He wrote Virginia Tech University with some excellent penmanship

A handwritten note?

How are we supposed to judge this guy's level of commitment if I don't even know what % of his battery he drained writing his commitment?!?!

Love getting the QBs!

Really excited by this. That size coming out of high school and seems
to be a savvy player.

Another VT University commit. They might be pretty good.

Pretty damn smooth for his age. Natural.

I haven't personally watched his film but I have two guesses as to why this guy is a mid three composite.

1) On another thread they mentioned he often stares down his primary receiver. Not a huge deal in our offense, and something that can certainly be addressed in the QB room and coaching.

2) Chicago, despite being a big city and producing a lot of Basketball talent, isn't usually churning out consistent top prospects in football. Given that it isn't a traditional hot bed for recruiting, there's a chance he hasn't gotten as much recruiting coverage as a prospect in a more traditional prospect hotbed.

Smart, big, athletic with Chicago toughness... we'll take it

Well this DEF means that Lawson is transferring then.

It lasted until comment #15....I'm seeing progress guys

I'm seeing progress guys

Not enough, but the commentary will continue as long as the legs are awarded.

In reference to Lawson jokes...

Using /s is for cowards.

Verbal 11+ months out ......

hitting snooze button

Sorry, I just can't get my hopes up anymore

A lot of coaches' philosophies on recruiting is obtaining that 1 QB of your class as early as possible to use to build the rest of your class. Almost all big time programs lock down their QB by spring before their senior year.

Nothing about HITW's comment insinuates the coaches shouldn't be hot on the trail right now. He's just pointing out that A LOT can happen in 11 months. Nothing wrong with tempering one's emotions until it gets closer to signing day or even signing day itself.

If you play it, they will win.

Pretty normal for QB's to commit early to claim their spot.

I'd like to see more tape of him throwing the ball.

Good looking Qb , with a lot of offers . Like how Fuente & co. have extended the recruiting footprint. A Great addition to class of 18.

He just got accepted to Elite11 camp. That's a pretty good endorsement for his throwing ability. Hopefully he'll do well

Hopefully he does well there, but to put it in perspective Andrew ford also went to the elite 11. I think they actually have 20+ QBs there and then after the competition they trim it down to the elite 11.

That is true.

Tyrod was also a member. It's still good exposure to have a QB invited. Hopefully he makes it to the 11.

Andrew Ford actually had a pretty solid season at UMass, but his arm strength just wasn't good enough (at least it wasn't at VT) to start for an upper level ACC team.

He looked pretty solid against USCe last year though, and was far and away the best player UMass had. But the talent on that team was not exactly great.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Ford was also Gatorade Player of the year in PA and a 4 star recruit from some services he wasn't exactly a scrub.

We just happened to have a good group of QBs to compete with by the names of Lawson and Durkin lol.
