As much as I'm not a Maryland fan, despite being a lifelong resident (I grew up in the Bias/Lefty/Bobby Ross era, and they cleaned house after the overdose...) I LOVE the Maryland endzones. They are spectacular, even if it isn't real grass.

I lived in annapolis for 18 years (until moving to Blacksburg). Hate College Park/UMD (except for that basketball team with Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, Chris Wilcox, etc), but I love the Maryland Flag.

With the Under Armour money, they were looking to do something along these lines, or possibly different striping every 10 yards. Would prefer to see the old school big M with the turtle leaning on it holding the flag at center field though...

Look at the comments. One (ECU fan) is saying UNC and VT have the worst fans. Then a couple of people jump in and say...what he already know...that VT fan are awesome!

I think we should incorporate the Virginia State Flag into the end zone art. Rub it in UVA's face that we are fast becoming the state's premiere university.

Many of you don't remember the battle we had with Weaver when they first installed the new field. He tried to say some bullshit about the paint not being good for the grass. After 2 years of alums screaming at him, he realized we are an agriculture school and smart enough to figure it out and paint it.

That was the origin of "Our (terrible) marketing department says we don't need *obvious branding choice*" Weaverisms. It took the better part of five seasons to get back to a good looking end zone.

Straight from the desk of Jim Weaver! A concept that screams brand identity and would make it a nightmare for opposing teams (and medical staff due to intense injuries):
WE JUST REPLACE ALL THE GRASS WITH HOKIESTONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just use the end zone logos from when MV7 was here and I'm happy
I was unfortunately not a fan back then. Do you have a picture or can you describe it?
I believe it was alot like the logo that the VT Tubas use but it said Hokies under the extended T instead of Tubas
It's small but you can kind of see it:
Another view
Yes. This.
another view:
or you can just watch old games:
Ah yes, the square root of "1 Hokies"
Epic picture, btw
Turkey leg for the Corso Car Crash lightning strike!
Likewise. What's old is new again.
Except in Weaver's World, where old is not new. Old just muddles our 'brand image' and is now on clearance.

I agree -- and I love their logos too.
I hate it when stupid websites / posters say "We all know Maryland uniforms suck" like it's a given -- F U buddy, I actually like them!
I kinda' wanted to see this happen, just for the novelty of it:
I'll admit that having the outlines of a turtle shell in the grass would be pretty sweet.

wow.
I was not expecting that commentary.

There is LITERALLY nothing wrong with the current field design.
could not agree more
Agreed. And what the hell is so great about Notre Dame's field? Did they get put on that list just because they're ND? I friggin hate that school.
Gotta be the backslashes in their end zones.
Kinda surprised no suggestions for HorseOnATreadmill in one endzone, and hammer & lunchpail in the other. Or, a Hulk Sam Rogers, lol!
Mentally disintegrate the opponents with Hulk Sam End Zone painting.
I vote for Sam Rogers crazy eyes at midfield a la LSU.

Becoming? We are VPI&SU. Landgrant that LOLuva!
... and change the blue to maroon to really drive the point home.
Just put a giant logo/picture of "vacation photo booth Beamer" at mid field and a couple horses on treadmills in each endzone and well be in business.

Weaver doing something fans didn't like? No...

I know you were joking, but is there a rule anywhere that specifically states that a field has to be made of grass? If not then I'm all in for this.
http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/rules/fielddiagrams/football.pdf
If I'm interpreting the rules correctly, it just has to be something that Les Miles can eat.
Maybe it's because I just skimmed it, but I didn't see it say grass anywhere specifically.
