Can't really embed anything from Twitter because its blocked here at work, but it looks like we just rolled out a NC2VT campaign on Twitter from both HokiesFB and VT_Football talking some serious smack about our recent domination in both recruiting and on the field in NC.
Looks like we're going for the full press this year, folks. Should be fun. Hey, maybe they can send down some freebies to us Hokies already down here in the state to show off how we've basically annexed the region anyway?

Last night, all our current NC guys were tweeting out their personalized NC2VT graphics. Additionally, we were sending out stuff to guys like DJ Crossen.
Yeah, VT Football's instagram was showing these last night. I didn't really take it as a slap in the face to North Carolina, just a great recruiting pitch to an adjacent state. I'm all for recruiting NC, DC, and MD hard (in addition to VA, obviously).
this is terrific. I love this.
Some random UNC fan has been claiming that some VA coaches are pissed about this campaign. I don't think there is much to it, It's not like we aren't recruiting VA at all this cycle.
meh
Yeah I saw that. The irony of a UNC fan claiming Virginia high school coaches are annoyed because we're targeting NC is delicious.
If there are Virginia coaches that are upset by this... screw em, not like they've been feeding their elite talent to us the past 10 years anyway.
yeah totally. time we taught them a lesson.... OR you know, we could rationally explain VT's motives to being the best team it can be and hopefully ensuring we are locking down top 5 VA talent every year and not watching it go out of state. And how a better, more successful VT program that competes for Championships is going to help them as well.
but ..... pfft, reasonable discourse. who needs it. screw em
Of course you want to work with the coaches. But if they're going to be so irrational to hold a grudge permanently over this and not listen to reason (which is what the twitter guy was inferring)... yeah, screw em.
and just what evidence is there that a permanent grudge is being held?
says everyone butthurt in the world. We didn't get their recruits because we weren't attractive to their recruits, so much so that LaneNorth could sell them a House of Cards and out of state programs could come in and poach them from under our nose. That's on us.
If Fuente can't win over coaches that are upset then he's not doing his job. Writing off any high school for personal reasons is plainly stupid, even if said school lean towards loluva.
Personally, I just don't believe it. All this based on the opinion of one fan who doesn't think a game counts if it's played in the rain? How would he already know what high school coaches from Virginia think about this?
Besides, it just doesn't make sense to be upset about this in my opinion. It's not realistic to think we will only recruit in Virginia. If you're a top recruit in VA, wouldn't you rather be joined at Tech by a top recruit from NC than an average recruit from VA?
bingo
I'm honestly a little tired of the constant ass kissing that some Virginia coaches/recruits seem to expect from VT. For too long, our offer has been expected by default by VA recruits, and when the OOS schools come calling, they bolt. If you're a top player in VA, VT would love to have you come to Blacksburg and rep your home state. If not, we will move on to other talented players to fill your spot. It's just that simple for me. Case-in-point, the whole Laborn saga last year.
Its a slippery slope i feel. I agree with what you are saying but high school recruiting is always going to be amateur hour at some places. If you get personally butthurt over their actions it never goes away. This is when keeping professional will always stand out. We will recruit who and where we need to and it will always include top VA talent, but not limited to. let HS coaches make their bed with that and have kids and parents push to VT because we are the top program regionally. Winning and being a championship caliber team will ensure kids want to go to VT no matter what coach says.
just writing them off and saying "screw em" is going to affect more people than the coaches your trying to teach a lesson.
In that case, I guess North Carolina coaches were pissed when UNC came to VA regularly back in the day, UNC fans continue to defy logic.
That's cuz they don't go to class.
no... it's because the DO got to class... at UNCheat
Which is perfectly fine if it is raining. You should only go to class when it counts.
Yeah...well....stop sending your kids to Clemson and Penn St then.
This all aligns with this coaching staffs new approach on recruiting. If there is talent they will go get it no matter where it is. We aren't sacrificing the programs to take players just to keep coaches happy.
If You Want to Make an Omelet, You Must Be Willing to Break a Few Eggs
For the record, I am all for this strategy and do not think this will amount to any material issues.
I'll take sausage + onions + goat cheese, please.
Another homerun from the recruiting department..... I wonder how this one will work out

As a North Carolina resident, I, for one, welcome our new Hokie overlord.
Your profile pic always reminds me of Samwise Gamgee with a mullet.
UVA's just glad we didn't steal their new NC recruiting slogan:
#ComeOnUpWe'reRightOnTopOfYou
#CuddlesAreEarned
I always figured UVA was more of a bottom.
They seem to be most comfortable there.
I think the masculine terminology here is "power bottom"

I'm... I'm an adult. I'm definitely not laughing audibly in my office right now...
Played this game a lot in high school. The winner was the guy who did it from the graduation podium.
That's bold. My high school was so uptight, if you did anything remotely disruptive during graduation, they would hand you a blank diploma and have you come to the next school board meeting and beg for the real one.
He was walking by to get his diploma and did it. Since we had already earned ours from the private school, their only recourse was to ban him from the campus for 4 years. Since they kinda want us to give back to the school, $$.
We definitely do not play this game in the Corps during Pass in Reviews. Never.
Aaaand the laughter I just spat out from this whole section of thread pushed me over the top. I will be joining the key players club today.
Our penis jokes bring all the TKPers to the TKPC...
And they're like, "PENIS!!!"
I would honestly like to see them take this a step forward and include our win percentage against the NC schools since joining the ACC, and our record when playing on the road in NC. Just to further the reality that the NC schools are predominantly basketball schools, and if you're a top football recruit in NC, you should go to VT.
Just for fun, I looked at our record against football teams from NC. Here are our records since joining the ACC in 2004.
NC Team: VT Record (Winning %)
UNC: 10-3 (77%)
Duke: 11-2 (85%)
NC State: 4-1 (80%)
Wake Forest: 4-1 (80%)
ECU: 6-3 (67%)
App State: 1-0 (100%)
Western Carolina: 1-0 (100%)
TOTAL: 37-10 (79%)
We've done very well against teams from NC, but we used to absolutely dominate them. From 2004 - 2007, we were 12-1 against NC teams (92%). Our best seasons were 2010 and 2011, when we went a combined 10-0 against teams from NC. Our worst season was 2015 when we went 1-3 against NC teams. But we got things back on track in 2016 with a 3-0 record against teams from NC.
I can't decide what pisses me off more: the fact that we've played ECU four more times than NC State and Wake Forest (we joined the ACC in 2004 and began playing ECU in 2007), or the fact that our worst winning percentage is against ECU.
yes
How do you get that number? We only played them 4 times, and won every game...
felt like i had to
This was my first thought too when I saw this whole thread.
And then you remembered that we completely kicked their asses last year. The end.
I just hope this strategy doesn't backfire with any recruits that have state pride. Just last year we were playing up repping the state of VA with #statement17, and now we're hoping we can convince a ton of NC kids to leave their state and come play for us...
that was just my first thought when I saw this thread, hopefully enough of a relationship is built with these kids that they don't take this the wrong way...
Other schools have been doing the exact same thing for years, we're just catching up.
It seems to me that the social media push could be more balanced. Its like it has a one track mind. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to do both at the same time.
If only they could have multiple campaigns throughout the recruiting cycle...
Statement17 wasnt necessarily a stay in the state of VA thing. I see it more as a "this class is here to make a statement".
....in 2017.
I kinda wondered the same thing...
