Apparently Bronco and his boys wandered onto NCAA's bad side during recruiting activities last spring. The NCAA dropped the swift hammer of justice and hopes that this will serve as sufficient deterrent for any other schools who might consider crossing the organization. /s
In all seriousness, LOLUVa self reported the violations and then self-imposed the following penalties:
- Public reprimand and $5,000 fine (standard NCAA penalties for Level II violations) ...
- Self-imposed reduction from six to four off-campus contacts for those prospects with whom coaches took photographs ...
- Self-imposed reduction of spring 2017 evaluations from 168 to 150 ...
- Self-imposed additional rules education for the football staff as to what is deemed an impermissible contact.
Apparently the NCAA found these acceptable. All the hoos down in hooville breathed a sigh of relief upon learning that they will not have to vacate any wins from last season.
In other news, UNC is still celebrating its most recent NCAA BB championship completely unencumbered by NCAA penalties.

So now they're going to get sanctions levied against the program that lost to Richmond last year?
They might not recover from this current downward trend for a decade, at the earliest.
Does #hardthingstogether come with impermissible contact.
I think almost always.
#hardthingscomingtogether?
If you post pictures of your #hardthingstogether online, you're gonna have a bad time.
Posting your #hardthingstogether pictures with minors in them?
wew lad.
You have to give it to them, at least they self reported "impermissible contact" by their football staff, which is more than you can say for Penn State.
That's not fair...
Penn St football... It just means more*
*than any legal matters
I laughed when I read the title of this thread. Correct me if I'm wrong - the violations were for taking a photo or photos with recruits? I'm not defending UVA and I think it's pretty funny, but if that is the extent of the violation it's absurd. Just shake hands and move on, don't make eye contact because if you do....no recruit for you!
Bronco , could not had a better debut, a 2/10 record , a lawsuit from a abused player and fines and sanctions by ncaa. " OUTSTANDING"
**Removed b/c I'm not too lazy to google things
Well, this makes no sense after your edit.
Are the pictures I see on here with our coaches and scouts permissible, because they chose to come to VT or verbally accepted? I just feel like I have seen coaches in pictures with recruits on the keyplay before. Also, why the hell is it an NCAA violation. I need that explained. Its a picture.

The article above on streaking the lawn was the only thing I could find explaining why it's a violation. I'm far from understanding the NCAA but if they're correct, the issue is the time and place of the pictures (and the meeting for that matter). Apparently, from mid April to sometime in May, you can't have "off-campus, in-person contact" with a recruit. I guess you can only evaluate them from a distance in that situation? I'm not going back to look, but I think those pictures you've seen on TKP are all at VT, so then it's ok as far as I can tell. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a perk of taking pictures in front of the giant lit up VT that makes it really obvious it's on campus.
It's been said already, and not to defend UVA, but that's a pretty benign infraction. Maybe they were forced to do it because no one would come visit UVA? /S
Most of the pictures we see are definitely taken on campus. Take a look at French's article on the 2017 LB commits (no seriously, it's fantastic). 3 of the 4 are definitely in VT facilities. But, the fourth is of Dylan Rivers at an in home visit with the Fuente and Bud. You may have also seen these same sort of pictures with Proctor or Garbutt in late January and early February. These off-campus pictures were allowed since they do not occur during recruiting "dead periods" in April/May and December (there may be one at some point over the summer, too).
Man, those are some really, really arbitrary rules. I don't understand the purpose at all. The NCAA is probably one of the biggest fraudulent organizations in existence.
The rule's pretty straightforward, don't talk to recruits during the dead period (so 17 year olds can have a couple months without fending off grown men blowing up their phones). UVA didn't get in trouble for taking pictures, the pictures were time-stamped photo evidence of them breaking a rule designed to protect high schoolers.
So... just to be clear.
UVA cheated and wasn't able to beat Richmond or UConn? Got it.
If they hadn't cheated, can we assume they'd have gone 0-12? This season is going to "fun" for them.
I saw Impermissible Contact open for #hardthingstogether at Moby Dicks in the Castro.
Talk about cock rock.
Too far?
Not to absolve LOLUVA, but it amazes me that taking a somewhat innocent picture with a recruit is a violation worthy of a fine, but everything that North Carolina did is going to be swept under the rug.
It's called the NC double A.
It all comes back to self reporting, accepting the violation and not appealing or playing the system. Schools don't fight low level violations like this.
I agree that a picture feels like it shouldn't matter. I saw a reply above saying that the picture was more of a time stamped evidence of recruiting in the dead period than a problem with a picture.
How do you adequately punish a program that is so pathetically bad at everything football related?
Let them keep their program.
Force them to schedule VT twice per year.
Oh man, can you imagine it? Open every season with an "out of conference" game against LOLUVa and then close every season with our division game against them. Best way to start and end the season with easy wins. Also, push their faces into the mud to start the season and crush their hopes at the end.
Too bad you're only allowed to count one win against an FCS program per season.
I like the self punishment route. Keep hoping they will extend BM's contract.
Let the beatings continue until morale improves!
They shoulda just said they were self imposing a post-season ban. It would look like they were taking really serious, and it's not something that would actually hurt them, since you know, its LOLUVA.
Did...did they say hello to a receuit's mom?
I think it's time to bring this one back.
"YOU!"
This made me actually laugh out loud.
That's a very oddly shaped dumpster
Well... It is their practice facility...
Public Reprimand?
What, thay have to wear UVA football related clothing at all times?
4 years of doing hard things together? Yea I would say that could pass a way to describe a nightmarish prison sentence. Sounds appropriate I guess.
What else were they going to do, take away their win?
if someone with the tweeters would put this out, I'd be appreciative. I hope we can maintain the current ratio of mocking LOLUVa to actual LOLUVa football posts using this hashtag.
I got you.
