This is interesting, especially when Georgetown was the perceived favorite until JT3 was canned.
Want.
Very much want.
Getting 2 big men out of Oak Hill in 3 years?
WANT
Looks like gonzaga is the favorite so far
I'll probe my Oak Hill sources and see what I can find.
From a blutarsky, this is perfect.
My sauces say this is a no go.
Pretty decent list of names to be in the middle of.
FTFY
We could really use a guy with his abilities, but no room on the boat .....currently.
So sitting out he would be holding a scholarship during 2017-18?
Interesting that he was recruited by Bennett to LOLUVA out of HS but they are not on the list. Doug Doughty from Roa. Times speculated he'd be a target of Bennett.
Yes he would hold a scholarship while sitting out, like Seth Leday has this season.
This would be a really good pickup, even if he had to sit out a year. Had six double-doubles, put up 23 and 15 against UCLA late in the season, scored in double figures in 22 games, shot 55% inside this season while averaging 12.5 and 8.2, also has the length and athleticism that Buzz seems to seek out in his OKGs. Kinda surprised that Pastner hasnt gotten this guy at least a bit interested in Georgia Tech, considering he is from Atlanta.
GT is hot after Jordan Tucker and might be the favorite right now. Bet they don't want to bring him in if they can land Tucker who would be eligible right away
Those are some very good numbers against stiff competition. I was going to ask where he was from until I saw you post it. From a geographical perspective, we'd definitely be in the running. But considering that he decided on UW to begin with, geography may not be much of a factor for him, and Gonzaga cannot be dismissed, especially considering the great success they are having this year.

...drink?
After a quick google search, same HS as Bibbs. Helps?
All those teams made the NCAA tourney last year. Wonder how this affected his decision to consider VT? If I was a basketball player, why wouldn't you want to play for Buzz?
Also saw where we got mentioned with MJ Walker. Apparently we're trying to get him to visit, extreme long shot but you never know. Never seen a dude this late in the process with a list as long as his.
That guy would be the best VT recruit in the modern era.
Would need to be attrition for a spot I believe, unless Horne preps a year (I know most are excited for NAW and Bede, but PJ seems like a true OKG in the mold of LeDay and Crowder, and honestly, most excited to see this kid ball).
There's been the rumors of Sy floating around, and Bibbs had somewhat of a cryptic Instagram post the other day. Since then, he's made the Insta private. There is no sauce to this, just off season speculation. Was just a "Thank You." and geotagged Blacksburg. Not reading much into it as it's probably just a thank you to the fans, but if he were to leave as a grad transfer (if he has the credits), or even grad to take his chances in the pros, I wouldn't be shocked. Saddened, however, I would be.
That post was strictly thanking the fans for this season, don't worry Bibbs isn't going anywhere haha.
Doubt it, Buzz was never really sold on him.
Edit: Got him mixed up with Georgetown commit Antwan Walker. Pretty sure Buzz is definitely sold on MJ haha.
Feels like he would be a pretty big get. Q&A where it seems like we're in the top 5 or so:
http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1766226-q-a-wit...
Good read. That's a hell of an offer sheet we're included in. Also, GT has improved its recruiting vastly since they hired Josh Pastner. So is it unusual for a McDonald's All American to wait this late in the process to take visits and commit? It just seems odd to me.
While it is unusual, I am surprised that more of the top recruits don't do this with how much rosters and coaches change as a season comes to an end. Spots open up on blue blood programs every year. I get the whole guarantee yourself a spot but if you are a mcds AA, teams are going to make the numbers work. Look to the top recruit for this year, having to request out of his nli once his school fired their coach. Now following his dad to his new school made things simple but if Washington had wanted to they could have made it a bigger challenge in terms of his nli since it was signed. Just as an example of spots opening up, look back at last year where Buzz was recruiting the Liberty big man that was transferring, but ultimately he got a spot at Kansas due to other changes.
Was wondering what happened to Maxwell. Looks like he left Kansas mid year.
I think Kansas thought they had more of a need than they did and made him an offer but once he got there it became apparent that he was going to have a largely diminished role compared to his time at Liberty once he could even get back into games. It didnt help that Kansas landed one of the top bigs for both 2017 and 2018, so he was going to be competing with Five Star big men for playing time. No word as of yet on where he is going to end up. Not sure how the NCAA rules will affect him in terms of a new school next year and having to sit out again or not.
Curious if there is really a chance we get any new recruits or tranfers for next year? I haven't been following the recruiting the last few months so im trying to catch up best I can

Don't know if its been posted here yet but you can catch NAW tonight in the Nike Hoops Summit on ESPN2.
Heard from a very very reliable source that we will be signing a new basketball player tomorrow. Unfortunately means we will be losing a player as well. Not sure who that will be, hopefully not Sy.
Edit: may just be referring to PJ Horne. Not 100% sure.
I've been told Khadim is happy where he is. Hopefully, that is the case.
I was at a VT Alumni dinner last night where Buzz spoke. He said he was expecting one player to sign today sometime. Someone then asked why the numbers didn't work out if he was adding another player and Buzz said that he was very good with numbers and that he expected this new player to take someone's spot who was leaving.
I do, however, remember hearing him say Sy did very well with what was asked for him of this year and that he expected him to be better next year. He also had a lot of other positive things to say about Sy.
Perhaps this is the long-winded rumor of Devin Wilson taking his talents and grad transfer opportunity to law school.
Though, i'd love to have his experience and defensive abilities along side JRob. Pig and Bede are still untested.
We'd be a bad spot if we lost Sy, with a few transfers and Blackshear coming off an injury/redshirt as the totality of our height. Even though Buzz loves him some small ball, I die inside a little more each time I see our opponents snatch up offensive rebounds.
Buzz did say that Devin Wilson was on Football Scholarship last year and Basketball this upcoming year, so I would bet Devin is staying. Only players I could think of last night who he did not mention were both Justin's and Johnny Hamilton.
I was under the impression that Hamilton was done regardless. This season was his final one, even with the likelihood that he could attain a medical redshirt.
I'll be real salty if we lose our starting point guard or our all-time 3 point percentage leader.
I'd imagine its PJ Horne, since he has committed but has not signed with the Hokies yet. But maybe someone else is leaving, which will open up a spot to sign someone else.
Edit: The Spring signing period for basketball starts tomorrow, April 12, so Horne will probably sign his NLI tomorrow.
Pretty positive it's Horne. I don't think Buzz is allowed to mention him by name yet but from everything I've read on message boards around the interwebz, PJ Horne will fill out this recruiting class.
I thought we already had PJ Horne?
Committed but not able to sign until today.
Committed, not signed to an NLI.
School just announced that Horne has now signed his NLI. He was already included in the scholarship numbers we have been discussing so that means no attrition for now.

Not much out there on this kid. 247Sports hasnt even gotten his name spelled right on their empty profile of him.
Just spent a few minutes watching his huddle tape:
1) Length! - long arms for his position, had a few nice steals for breakaway dunks using it. Would make an impact if we continue to utilize a zone.
2) Smooth stroke - wasn't shooting a high volume, but had a clean release and very good looking jumper.
3) Didn't jump off the page - from the highlights, it's hard to tell. Just looked like another guy. Would like to a see a full game highlight.
Potential is there I think. Looking forward to Senior Year tape if he ends up with the good guys.
Go get him, coaches.
I imagine this has more to do with the Family Tour they are on than the recruit they are visiting along the way but if it works on getting him signed all the better.
Made the same kind of trip yesterday, also stopping in to see Nickeil Alexander Walker yesterday as well. Think they are combining these stops with the Parent Thank You tour they are on.
Talking national top 10-15 class if Buzz can add him along with BJ Mack and the Langley twins
Yup, Buzz has mentioned that they are taking recruiting visits along with Parent Thank You tour, and Hokie club events.
BIG time offer list. #4 player in Fla.

Next question is of course who loses out if they do get him to make the numbers work.
Wilson?
There have been rumblings about a transfer for a while.
Buzz straight up said he was expecting one soon at a banquet thingy a couple weeks back.
Hopefully not Sy...I liked what I saw out of a true freshman competing against quality big men in the ACC.
It's not. Buzz and Sy were just joking around on Twitter the other day.
Good. I actually didn't see that on Twitter...I had just seen a few mentions on TKP over the past few weeks. Who do you think?
Smart money is on Devin Wilson. Buzz didn't have to redshirt him. He could have let his eligibility run out, but he didn't. Buzz was probably already planning on using this as a scholarship, so my best guess is that there was a deal made with Devin. We'll keep ya if the scholarship goes unfilled, but if we fill it, we'll help you grad transfer to the Law school you need to get to.
Let's all not start counting chickens before the eggs have hatched
Everyone knows the chicken comes before the egg. I prefer to crack em open instead of waiting for them to hatch.
I'm getting hungry...
You sure the chicken came first?
Here's the part where we start reading too much into social media posts. In today's #getBETTER motivation picture we see Wilson alongside the 4 departing seniors.
same as march 13 tweet...i think
Some advanced Twitter searching confirms.
So we're in the state of total over analysis of seemingly straightforward tweets?

anything new on this front today?

Talked to a buddy around the program today, the staff feels like he's ours to lose after this weekend.
Anyone know when he plans on deciding? I remember NAW scheduled a date immediately after visiting VT, could we hopefully see a similar case here?
According to this, recruits have until 5/17/2017 to sign their NLI for basketball. Since that is only 3ish weeks away, we should know relatively soon.
He mentioned a couple of weeks back that he was aiming for a late April/early May decision date. But then again, those things are always fluid
Don't think anyone has a real read on him. FSU and GT staffs both think he's a lock. Though Slater is a good sign, he usually isn't fishing for crystal ball points like some other guys. I don't think much of Arvin's crystal ball predictions though I suppose he is supposedly pretty plugged in with the staff.
Arvin said he's hearing promising things for VT, FWIW.
Slater is probably the most accurate 247 analyst other than Jerry Meyer. He's technically a Duke insider, but he normally has intel on a ton more than just Duke recruits. Like you said, he usually doesn't make a prediction unless he feels good about it.
And Meyer has CB'd Walker to us now too
FSU and GT appear to be Tech's biggest challengers here. FSU has long thought they had him locked up, and the off-season departures of Bacon and Isaac have given Leonard Hamilton an even stronger selling point. Pastner has supposedly been selling Walker on their need for a high caliber scorer and proximity to home.
While UCLA, Ohio State, etc have been in the mix, everything I have read has included Walker noting how he wants to play in the ACC because of how challenging and high-profile the conference is.
Based on the way Buzz has recruited players in the past, his sales pitch revolves more around life than it does ball. So where guys like Leonard and Pastner are selling playing time and shots, Buzz will be bringing a different perspective to the discussions. I have no idea how that will resonate with Walker, but if it does...oh baby
If you insert him into the VT class we would have a class ranking of... ya'll might want to sit down for this....
Yeah, we'd have the #5 rated recruiting class....
in the country
Thank god I was already sitting
It gets better....
he would easily be the highest profile recruit we've picked up in 35 years, and the first McDonald's All-American we would have secured since Dell Curry in 1982.
Yeah.... A McDonald's All-American is now trending toward VT in basketball
via GIPHY
Must not get hopes up over a kids choice but why not hop on the hype train

Third CB for Walker, this time from Jerry Meyer. Meyer is Director of Basketball Scouting at 247Sports and has a prediction record of 626/858 (73%).
Hokies are now up to 4 CB's for MJ Walker.
4th is coming from Matej Sis, a VTScoop contributor with a prediction record of 132/152 (87%)
We are now the leader at 29%, is this really happening?
My #Sauce that I've been in contact with says it could be soon.
Take that as you will.
Don't play with my emotions, man
Just going off what I've been talking about.
Late last night/early this morning we got another CB from Chad Lykins, a contributor for Duke. We now lead at 36%.... still can't believe this is real
Holy hell, this could actually be happening
This would secure 2 elite scorers with 1 class. You're talking a team that should be highly ranked throughout their careers in Blacksburg. You're talking about 2 elite playmaking scoring guards that big men will want to play alongside in the ACC. Its not hyperbole, this would be a legitimate program changing recruiting get.
To think we could be on the verge of signing an Oak Hill big man one year and to follow it up with a McD's All American the next... Where are all the people who said you can't recruit basketball players to Blacksburg now?
Nothing is set in stone now. With the added momentum towards VT, we're sure to see a hard push from our main competition to reel him in. I'll be ecstatic when he signs with us, but I don't want to see people counting their chickens before they're hatched.
don't give up. Keep trying hokie chick-fil-a
I'm glad I witnessed this as it was happening because otherwise I'd be lost. Nice work, Chick-fil-a
Correct, can't count anything til its on the dotted line. But that said, the fact we're even legitimately on the radar right now for a kid of this caliber is completely unheard of for VT Basketball. We've only had 1 McD's All American recruit in our history, Dell Curry in 1982. Finney-Smith was close a few years back as he was a finalist to the team, but fell just on the outside. Its not outlandish to say that, for the majority of the posters here, we've never been in this spot with a player like this in our lifetime.
The fact we're even here is a monumental achievement for the mindset of VT basketball and should help us realize there's this whole vast potential we haven't even realized we have. If we're able to land him, and considering who is predicting he comes here (2 top Duke experts, 2 top VT experts, and the 247 Director of Basketball Scouting) it is looking increasingly likely we could, it would be absolutely program changing.
Also, keep in mind that the signing period ends May 17th, so the fact this kid is apparently this high on us right now is a very good thing.
Looks like the hoos are getting a tad bit worried.

Make sure we have a community that doesn't look and act like lesewage. Join TKPC.
As they should, really.
They just got ousted from the NCAA after putting up only 39 points on the game when the biggest knock against them is that Bennett will default to sacrificing offense for defense. Then they lose multiple good players to transfer and their recruiting class isn't exactly lighting it up averaging a middling 3* class. The one guy they brought in last year via transfer who was supposed to help them take the next step got kicked off the team 1 game into the season.
And now it looks like their in state rival, a team they've split the last 2 seasons with, has already picked up 2 Top 100 recruits with a legitimate possibility of picking up a Top 25 McD's AA as the cherry on top. Yeah, if I were them, I'd be very worried about what is transpiring right now...
LeSewer seems to think that because they're all guards, it's not much to get concerned about
You know, because Blackshear doesn't exist, and Sy won't ever bulk up....
Honestly, I like what we're doing this year. Load up on elite shooters, and bring in another excellent ball handler. Our guard and wing depth next year is already good, and if we get Walker, it'll be amazing. Then focus next year on bringing in a big or 2 for depth and we should be golden down the line. And once those high school bigs see what the guards on our team can do, they'll want to come play here to get in on the action.
My favorite quote so far:
Gotta give it to him, it was pretty interesting when we did exactly that in a certain double OT game back in February
Maybe they should look into playing a smaller line-up so they can score more than 39 points??
.... which is how Buzz likes to recruit. But let's not tell them that.
Ell oh ell. We pulled away from them in the 2nd overtime with a guard playing the 5.
The salt runs deep over there.
Let the salt infest the wound and make it hurt more...
via GIPHY
Yeesh just checked again...
They're eating their own right now. I think its fair to say the luster has come off the 2015 season already.
Hokies are now at 6 CB's and have a larger lead at 43%.
This CB is from a Kentucky insider, Chris Fisher. He has a record of 404/562 (72%).
FWIW just spoke to a #sauce and they told me that unofficially all signs are pointing to a big YES
any timeframe on when?
not sure when he's going to announce, may wait till the very end
Talking my guy on the team, it might be by the end of this week.
Watching this thread over the last few days like:
As we go through this craziness whether he signs with us or not, remember that Frank Mason was a 3 star recruit out of Petersburg in the same Kansas class as Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid.

Akok Akok. What parent's lacked in creativity, they made up for in basketball prowess?
Or the next in the lineage of Wang jokes.
This is what I came here for.
Bball team has akok and the football team has bush.
Don't forget Pimp and Hooker!
"I don't know how [other team's player] made that shot with Akok in his face" -- some poor, unwitting ESPNU announcer in a couple of years.
"well that certainly was the right call with that double technical. Coach K grabbed a hold of his arm and got slapped in the face by Akok."
Well you can't win a men's basketball championship without Akok on the team.
Something along the lines of this is how they identify a Jr. in their naming conventions is my understanding. Akok means Peace or Partnership
Well that explains Bol Bol.
