I know its way to early to be calling something like this, but take a look at what 247 wrote about the FSU Spring Game:
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Bolt/Tight-End-Offer-Extended-in-Georg...
Below is the direct quote:
Florida State – Cam Akers was the offensive MVP
247Sports ranked Cam Akers the country's No. 1 overall running back in the 2017 class for a reason, and he showed that Saturday, rushing for 87 yards on 10 carries to go along with two receptions for 15 yards. The true freshman hasn't even been in Tallahassee for a whole semester yet, but he very much looks the part of a future star.
Expect Akers to be a large part of the Seminole offense next season.
It doesn't look like Khalan Laborn is an early enrollee, but when he arrives it appears he will have some work to do as he competes with Mr. Akers for playing time.
I'm not suggesting that he will never see the field, but it certainly looks like he may have to be patient.

I think the point that FSU can sell is that Laborn will play in big games, look good, and not get hit a ton, so he's more fresh for the NFL. At least that's what I would say
FSU also rotates backs a good amount, outside the last two years where their depth has fallen apart behind Cook. Still their running back depth chart for next year is an embarrassment of riches. 5 four star running backs, 1 5 star back, 2 more 4 stars committed for 2018. Must be nice
Let's count how many have starts in the next 3/5 years.
Would you rather run in their offense or ours? Behind their OL or ours? Starts don't matter compared to film and if he's getting 10 carries a game and able to show his skills early on that's all that matters.
Turnover at skill positions at these schools is fairly high. He listed a lot of star players, I don't believe they will all finish there.
turnover at RB for us is pretty high as well isn't it?
FSU has had a RB drafted in 3 of the last 4 drafts if we include dalvin cook this year. I hate FSU, but I can see why a kid would pick them over us until we show we can feature a RB again under CJF.
This. When the coach says in no uncertain terms that he doesn't care who gets carries, he is ceding a lot of ground in the recruiting battle.
I think the best approach as a fan is to simply not worry about recruiting 4 star rbs unless the next couple seasons show Fuente's offense isn't working at this level without some studs.
I'm not saying kids won't still go there it's why any top tier program keeps getting depth at positions. But the turnover from these programs is astounding. The turnstile nature for RB, QB at Bama for example is just eye opening.
Bama also recruits at a better level than any other team by a huge margin. Also their qb recruiting has been their big achilles heel before now. Think FSU beats them this year because Hurts cannot throw the ball
Their QB recruiting has been good. Their QB development has been shit. Batemen, Sims, Cornwell and Barnett were all top 100 players. Sims and Barnett were 5*. They've brought in talent, just squandered it. Hurts was the lowest ranked of those group by a good amount.
And now that begs the question: were the QB star rankings inflated by having offers from Bama?
They offer a ton of QBs they just have their pick of which one they want. Their QB offers, like many others, aren't committable until you come throw in person for them however. Considering the caliber of kids they are able to recruit I don't think their rankings were inflated. I think their offensive scheme was just a bad fit for most as their offense is built around a heavy ground game and simplistic passing attack.
Yeah but shouldn't you be recruiting to fit and not just taking highly rated guys because you can? Just amazes me that they get so much out of every position but there. They win two more championships if they have a QB that could so much as threaten to move the ball through the air.
Their OL was awful last year. Their QB almost got killed.
They may be young and talented guys that need experience (I don't following their recruits), but their OL struggled.
Their pass protect was awful. Their run blocking was good.
TBF their offensive line was pretty bad last year. I watched a ton of FSU football last year (huge fan in the department) and cook was really let down by poor offensive line play. They had to get creative last year and get him a ton of yards through quick passing (Seeing as francois got the crap kicked out of him if he held the ball for more than like 2 seconds)
theres actually a huge movement by FSU fans to get rid of their Oline coach (the really good one that built the NC offensive line is gone) and their defensive coordinator (also a new guy since they won the natty). Kinda sounds like us with curt newsome and steiny a little bit
They want to get rid of him every other year. They were also very young on the OL including starting some true freshmen (landon Dickerson) if I recall. He recruits at an elite level.
Let's take off the O&M shades though for a second. Who has more talent on the OL going forward and would be a preferable destination for a RB, FSU or VT?
oh i totally agree i just dont think its as good of a situation as it seemed last year. I dont think they reload like bama yet
Disagree there, they open some pretty big holes on the ground. You don't average 5 yards a carry including sacks without being able to maul. Now Cook was a huge home run hitter, but they rarely got stuffed, think every back averaged like 6 ypc. And their sacks were inflated by Francois having 0 pocket presence. Dude would hold onto the ball forever whenever I watched them
Recent past.....................our O line
Laborn was never going to be the primary carry guy, especially after Akers committed. But, like another poster has said, FSU has been a RB rotation team for as long as I've been watching football until they got a guy like Dalvin Cook and they'd have to be crazy (or named Larry Fedora) to not give him lots of touches every game. If Laborn is as good as advertised, he will likely be a perfect example of what we think we can sell to backs: The less carries, preserve your body, but still be a playmaker role. That theory works a lot better when your OL can actually run block, like FSU's.
I wonder if he can play DB or safety
He won't see the field till his junior year after he transfers out. Sorry but the kid is about to be humbled very quickly.
but...but...they let him commit in a lambo

Jared Shanker wrote this article on the FSU RBs the other day and literally never mentioned Khalan's name once.
Disclaimer: I know Khalan isn't there yet but still.
Can you literally not write something?
Literally speaking, you can literally not write something in the literature if it's in the literal sense.
How alliterative of you.
All words are literal, just not all meanings.
Y'all are really salty about him going elsewhere.
Seriously, so many folks on this site are a step below tweeting at recruits. Instead they just talk behind their backs about ow they are going to fail lol. But all fanbases have those fans I guess...
Something to keep an eye on.
He's gotta be kicking himself a little for not staying home. Right?
He might have never taken a snap for FSU but at least he got to drive a lambo with their logo on it.
Hindsight is 20/20 of course and I'm sure he wishes more than anyone that his decision had worked out better.
Come home
Edit: Poor reading comprehension. Ignore.
I would imagine that if he transfers, FSU may restrict him from going to any ACC school.
I could be wrong, but that's typical of what we see in college athletics.
ACC rules require him to sit for two years for he transfers to an ACC school. F$U can block certain schools (I.e. teams they have scheduled or FL schools, etc.).
Ok then. Let's move down to FCS and he can play right away!
I don't really want him at UVA though.
A big part of the strategy for these schools is making sure players don't go to their competition. It's not just about getting the right players on the roster, it's about preventing the competition from getting the right players.
Bear Bryant was infamous for this.
I'm glad to see Jimbo continuing the legacy of the sport's greatest asshole in another conference.
I know- through his son- a very well placed FSU booster. Their two main recruiting pitches to recruits are their posh athlete apartments/dorms- think 5 star hotel type rooms and food, and their medical/training staff. They sell the players parents on top notch health and living outside of football first and foremost..then they get to the championships, playing time, etc.
...and Jimbo left because they wouldn't spend money in facilities
He's redshirting. A lot of their redshirts didn't go with them.
Read the article.
Interesting. If he was as good as advertised, he would have gotten playing time for a 6 win team- especially at RB.
It is obvious that he didn't get playing time because their defense reached the accountability threshold.

#burn.
Every time I see this, I think of the amazing work the creator did.
funny, every time I see this I can't stop looking at the upper right corner where the loop is obvious since the guy in front masks the other resets.
Now this one...damn

But did he drive the Lambo back to Virginia?
Where do you guys think he will go? A lot of top talent guys take the JUCO route for a year so they don't have to sit out as long. If he goes P5, I think WVU is a great fit for his skill-set and it's closer to home than FSU. UMD might be tempting for him as well. He will have options.
He'd also be a good fit for tOSU in the Dontre Wilson/Curtis Samuel hybrid slot/rb role.
Another bonus is that he could do something worthy of a one year suspension and transfer and then only have to endure one of the sit down years.
Nothing in there implies he's leaving. Nole fans seem to be looking to when he'll break the rotation next year. Just a bit of discipline, something we've done many times.
It was walked back on Twitter by the FSU beat writer.
but what about travon? /s
There are some 5 stars at PSU or UGA he could sit behind
He also didn't want to be a part of a bowl game where his team was not bowl eligible
