Former 4 star according to ESPN. They list him at 6'9 but some even have him at 6'11. Yes please.
UCONN lists him as 6'11" 207lb. talk about skinny! Class of 2016.
After averaging 23 ppg, 10 rpg as a junior, he missed his senior year of H.S. with knee injuries.. tore his ACL in Feb 2015, tore his other ACL in September 2015. Pre-injury, he was a consensus top 75 recruit.
Worked hard in rehabbing his knee(s) and was healthy enough to play in 28 games for UCONN as a Freshman, averaging 1.6 ppg, 1.5 rpg in 8 mpg
You can teach weight lifting and muscle growth, can't teach 6'11
It's either going to be him or MJ. Really don't see any way we can fit both of them onto the roster.
Honestly expecting Durham to commit to Notre Dame this weekend.
Updated the OP with three new offers at the top. Plan to put all the offers in the OP to make it a clean look for the thread.
I need Walker to commit because my boss whos a big wahoo was bragging about their stellar recruit they just landed whos one of the best in the nation, I saw the article it was about some big they just offered not committed to guess they dont teach you how to read up in whoville!
they did just get a commit from a kid from Italy. Not sure he is considered anywhere near a best in the anything category but seems a solid get for Bennett, especially defensively.
http://www.nbc29.com/story/35294456/uva-basketball-gets-commitment-from-...
Because if UVa needed one thing, it was another defensive-first player.
Its been interesting seeing what they're doing in recruiting. Their bread and butter definitely seems to be with the tough defensive players, but I am not seeing much else. If I were them, I'd be a little worried about this trend, because eventually they're going to have to score some points, and with Perrantes gone, I just don't see where they're coming from. Outside of Guy immediately turning into a legitimate Naismith candidate, I am not sure they're on a trajectory anywhere but downward at the current moment.
Yeah he said he was an all American top 5 player idk what he read he's delusional enough to be a wahoo so that bout says all I need to
Just wait til Walker (hopefully) commits to VT, and then show him this pic:
That's what a real McD's A-A looks like
They tried to go hard after Michael Porter Jr after his release from Washington but he followed his dad to Missou. They also recently offered Zion Williamson, the number 2 kid in the 2018 class but he is said to be choosing between Kentucky and Kansas. Only other top 10 talent with a UVA offer is 2019 Matthew Hurt.
Zion is a stud. His school is about 10 minutes from me and town's afire watching him play.
He's a nice fellow too and momma's keeping him grounded.
It's been cool watching Kryzewski, Williams, etc show up locally.
Drake's been tweeting him up and wearing his jersey.
Locals haven't been stoked this much since Garnett was in school.
One new profile added to the top of the OP.
One new offer at the top of the OP
We don't say it often enough, but thanks for staying on top of this.
I logged in to second the appreciation for the time you put in to all things Buzzketball
Lot easier than what the football guys get. For every basketball offer tweet I see there are about 50-75 football offer tweets in the same time period.
Can we get the shoe brand of each player added to the OP?
*ducks*
Ducks are pretty solidly Nike.
I regret having ever said anything haha
Appears Durham intends to visit the Hokies on the 28th of May. Duke has also indicated interest in Durham as well. Going to be an interesting month for Buzzketball.
Isn't this the former 4 Star who is 6 foot 20 and a rebounding machine? Because we could totally use one of those.
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4066440/juwan-du...
Averaged 8 mins and 1.5 rebs, and 1.8 points per game as a true freshman?
Not bad, would be a good addition to any team. He'd still have 3 years left after his redshirt, right?
Yes, He would still have three years remaining after redshirting next season.
One new offer to the top of the OP
I appreciate all the Bball updates, but let's be real....
One new offer out at top of OP
Anyone seen what type of shoes he has on while on visit?
If the MJ Walker trolling would have never happened I think everyone would be ecstatic about this possibility. Picking up another big has been a recruiting wish of mine this year so I will definitely be thrilled if we get this guy.
Who says MJ was trolling? If he really wanted to play point guard, he made the right decision. Simply put.
It was more the CBs than MJ. I don't recall anything directly from him.
I always thought the crystal balls came from these reporter type people interviewing the athlete. If not the athlete, then their coaches, parents, friends, etc. If so, he and all of the people around him had the same story... which ultimately must have come from him.
If I am wrong, can anyone tell me what info these guys use for generating CB's?
I've always been told that CBs come from the 24/7 staff talking to coaches and staff of the NCAA teams and how they feel about the likelihood of landing the recruit.
One new Profile added to the OP
So does anyone have any idea when Jamal Durham is going to announce? I need some good hoops news ASAP.
Oh this is awkward... That ship sailed like 12 years ago...
Though if you mean Juwan... No idea, seems to be playing this quietly, but it does sound like it might be down to us or ND. The fact he held out a while to come visit us is a good thing.
He is visiting Villanova this weekend so we will have to wait and see
So he's committing to Florida State you say.
Swing and miss yet again!
That really sucks because now it looks like we might have lost LeDay for nothing
but I don't like it.
Miles Wilson transfers to Miami
That's 3 players we were heavily involved in that end up going to other ACC schools. LeDay transferred out because we thought we needed the spot and now we'll have an open scholarship for the upcoming season.
Yeah that's pretty much the worst possible scenario on how this all went down. Ugly couple weeks to end an otherwise great recruiting class.
On the bright side, Buzz now has another 2018 scholly to play with.
Heard today that LeDay transferring was mostly due to a lack of playing time. Buzz didn't force him out but was honest with him that he could more get playing time elsewhere.
Agreed that it's always nice to have a scholly to give, just wish we could use it for a body this year as this team has been so short-handed for so long it needs all the help it can get.
Well, the only guy that could've helped this would've been Walker. Wilson and Durham would have sat out.
Hopefully Buzz can get a grad transfer or just an regular recruit that can be a solid contributor early on.
Could award it to a walk on and change a students life
Quevin?
Hopefully he keeps his eyes open when talking to coach, playing ball, and looking around campus
Old Ben told him to use the Force.
Montez Mathis, 4* shooting guard out of Maryland, recently announced Virginia Tech among his finalist. His list included Rutgers, Western Kentucky, Missouri, Xavier, UConn, Texas A&M, Kansas, and the Hokies. Montez visited Virginia Tech back in January and was offered shortly after.
6'4, 190lb SG. Sounds about right
(Class of 2018)
Justin Ahrens. SF/6-5/181. 247 has him at 0.9039.
He made every shot!
Lefty sharpshooter from Ohio where have I seen that before....
247 has him as a 3-star PG. 6-3, 175. The words "tough" and "aggressive" seem to follow this kid around.
Here is a highlight vid:
