My fifth favorite Bond actor.

He clearly is top 2 maybe 3 if you really pushing it.

1. Dalton
2. Connery/Craig
4. Brosnan
5. Moore
115. Lazenby.
Those other guys in the non-Eon films don't count. But they had to be better than Lazenby.

Y'all downvote me if you want but I'm about to spit the damn truth.

If you put a guy who was Bond in two mediocre movies about Connery, you're crazy. If you think Craig is remotely comparable to Connery, you're crazy. If you don't have Connery at the top of your list, you're crazy.

I can see an argument for Moore being not first, but if he's not top three you are objectively wrong.

They're very different Bonds. I tend to think the Dalton and Craig versions of Bond are somewhat similar, while Connery played it very differently. I've always thought the Connery Bond was a bit cheesy and over-the-top. Dalton and Craig just seem to fall into the role more naturally.

I think part of my lower ranking of Moore is due to the length of time he was Bond. His later movies, when he was older, just don't quite have the same effect.

Brosnan was just sort of middle ground.

Lazenby should have never been allowed close to a film set.

You're absolutely right that Dalton and Craig are different Bonds. They are the exact same cookie cutter super agent you see in every other spy movie. The ruthless, shoot-first, ask questions never that you get out of everything.

James Bond is cheesy and over the top. He's a connoisseur, an icon, a man of mystery.

I just have a hard time listening to the argument that Dalton was better than Connery. You know Dalton turned down his original offer to play Bond because he didn't want to follow Connery? That man defined who James Bond is and every Bond since has copied him in some form or another.

Moore was the perfect Bond for his time, but probably stuck around too long.

The only reason Dalton played Bond was because Brosnan couldn't get out of his commitment to Remington Steele and they essentially needed to bide their time before he was available. Unfortunately, by the time he could join, the only good movie they had left up their sleeves was Goldeneye. The World is Not Enough is pretty bad, and Die Another Day is downright terrible.

Even Lazenby isn't that bad of a Bond. His problem was that he let the role go to his head and tried living like Bond outside of the franchise, and he realized it was better for his health to step away from it after the one film.

Its interesting, but I've read the big reason for the gap between Die Another Day and Casino Royale is because of the Austin Powers franchise. I've read interviews with Daniel Craig saying as much, and caused them to go back to the drawing boards to recreate the franchise as something that took itself incredibly serious. There were some lighthearted moments in Spectre that leads me to believe they're beginning to go back, which I believe would be a good thing, though I think its becoming clear Craig could be done with the role.

That's not quite accurate. Dalton had been considered earlier. Apparently someone thought he was too young at the time.
According to Wiki, Moore thought Dalton was the best Bond.

Back on Moore, his early films are the ones that should be held on to. The rest are good filler, but they're certainly not great. He was always going to struggle following Connery... because Connery was first. Everyone after him was supposed to be just like him. The only other strategy was to not be like Connery at all. I don't think Moore pulled off either one, and just fell into the middle.

It didn't hurt that Lazenby fell on the "following Connery" sword before backing away from the franchise. His short tenure made it much easier for someone like Moore to come in, even after Connery came back for a short spell.

As for Dalton, that might be the case that he was considered earlier, but its well known that Brosnan was choice 1a after Moore left, but the producers couldn't get him due to Remingon Steele. The only reason Dalton ever got back in contention was because a deal couldn't be worked to get Brosnan out of that commitment.

Having read many of the original Ian Flemming books, ironically, Lazenby is the closest to what Flemming had in mind. Craig and Dalton are quite close too.

But for sheer entertainment value, Moore is unforgettable. And he was a decent human being to boot. He will be greatly missed.

I'd rank them similarly, but with Dalton and Connery a very close 1-2 which I occasionally flip, then with a distinct gap between them and Craig as the definitive #3. Moore would be a close fourth, based solely on Live and Let Die. Brosnan in fifth, because the 90s Bond movies got kinda ridiculous, and the dialogue suffered from bad writing. Lazenby gets an asterisk, because having been in only one movie, it's not really fair to compare him.

Um...what?
1. Connery
2. Moore
3. Brosnan (especially in goldeneye)

The thing about Craig is that his movies/character resembled Mission Impossible and Bourne more than a typical Bond movie. Skyfall was a great movie, but it didn't feel like Bond.

One of my favorite Bonds. Sad day.

Now Moore can pester LLewelyn for a new car in the afterlife. They will both be missed, they were the Bond and Q of my childhood and therefore probably still my favorites.

Sean Connery was by far the best Bond.

That said, Roger Moore did a fine job of it. "Live and Let Die" is one of the classic Bond films. Too much camp, for sure, but that movie had some great elements. (Jane Seymour in her prime...)

Pierce Brosnan was also very good.

Live and Let Die is one of my all time favorites.

1. Connery by far
2. Craig
3. Moore I liked a lot, but he was TV spy first, I think RIP
4. Dalton
5. Lazenby
6. Brosnan no way that he's ever thrown a punch in his life

This is ironic. I am watching Casino Royale and took a break to check the weather radar and TKP. Have to agree with Nerd that Connery is far and away the best bond of all. As for camp, that's the genre. Bond movies have to be over the top. I also have been re-reading Ian Fleming, and Bond of the page and Bond of the movies is a different cat. Still and all, I did like Roger Moore, he did a good job following someone who couldn't easily be followed.

Yall can downvote me, but I'm about to speak that damn truth!

Idris Elba would make everyone forget who else has even played Bond

I don't have any actual qualifications, other than alcoholism, that would allow me to rule on this, but I will accept the drink

He was considered, but thought to be too old. Idris Elba would make a great Bond.

Aside from Elba, I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Karl Urban or James Purefoy take a crack at it.

Can't get on board with either of those.

Fun fact, if you play James Bond, you're not allowed to wear a tux in any other movie (its in the contract apparently)

Don't be surprised if the next Bond breaks the mold. I've heard they're going to be specifically targeting a non-white male, so we might even get a Jane Bond. Gillian Anderson and Emilia Clarke have both been rumored as possible replacements.

If they hadn't wasted Eva Green as a bond girl, I think she would have been an interesting Jane Bond.

I think Emilia Clarke is too young.

Saw this on Twitter. Unfortunately somebody was cutting onions at the time.
