It's official, Maverick will return and Val Kilmer has expressed interest as well.
Tom Cruise, the star of the original movie, confirmed the long-rumored sequel on Wednesday during an interview on the Australian morning show "Sunrise." Asked about the plans, Mr. Cruise, 54, said "It's true" several times, before adding that shooting would probably begin in the next year.
"It is definitely happening," he said.

Hollyweird out of new ideas, its all about the reboots, sequeals and new expanding universes (Not that I am complaining about that part as I am a huge nerd and Star Wars and Marvel are awesome and DC is at least trying)

Actually heard on the radio this morning that Hollyweird is losing 1100 jobs. The Californian tax credit for films has been set so low that only 12 of the top 100 movies filmed in 2016 where done in California. Any film with a budget over 100 million is basically economically advantaged to film just about anywhere else.
Ugh. Can't they just leave good movies alone? This is a classic and now it's going to be tainted by a crappy sequel. Is there any way this movie will even be "just ok"? Watch it somehow be awesome now that i've said that.... haha yeah right.
At least they're not doing a reboot?...
