Quarterback Quincy Patterson publicly reaffirmed his Virginia Tech verbal. There was message board scuttlebutt that Penn State would target the 6-4, 230 pound Solorio Academy (Chicago) product after 5-star QB Justin Fields decommitted from the Nittany Lions' 2018 class.

Patterson's stock rose after an impressive Elite 11 performance. Patterson committed to the Hokies' 2018 class in February.

Take a look at the comments on the link in his tweet. Some asshat thought it'd be good to call him out on it...but his response was a smile and a "how would you say it?" The guy gave him the real name and he seemed appreciative.
And there are still Penn State fans hiding behind a blank avatar claiming that won't be the case once PSU starts recruiting him....

I believe this kid means it when he says 100%. I believe he is 100% right now but we all know 100% right now doesn't mean 100% in February... I'm not necessarily worried specifically about PSU, or worried at all (in Fuente we trust) but we definitely need to keep cruitin this kid... with his performance last week and the bump he will get in rating he will get attention from a lot of places that weren't looking at him before. We are a long way from NLIs.
Good. After the way their fans acted after we flipped Dylan Rivers, trying to claim Rivers was suddenly not a take and that's the only way they'd lose a commit to us, I hope we consistently best the shit out of them in recruiting.

It's a good problem to have, but I don't know how we're going to keep all these highly coveted QBs happy. QP going to ride the pine for three years behind HH? HH starts one year and loses his job?
Truth... I really wonder how that will end up playing out.... I mean it's a good problem to have but somebody really good won't see the field much in a VT uniform.

Thankfully all those transfer rumors have finally calmed down.
We likely won't. But even highly rated guys often don't pan out and the coaches will have the best possible opportunity to assess them and decide who gives the team the best chance to be successful.
Pete Carroll had these types of problems at USC, and one of his backup QBs still made it to the NFL and got a good contract eventually (Matt Cassel).

I am becoming very impressed with this young man and the way he has been raised by his folks. He seems very humble and thankful for every opportunity he is given. Even during and after his recent week of superlative accomplishments at the Elite 11 he doesn't act like it is all about him. In fact, his first tweet afterward speaks to the fact that his word/his commitment to this team/school is important to him and shouldn't be questioned. Good for you Quincy Patterson. VT IS HOME and we can't wait to cheer for and support you when you arrive! Go Hokies!

How about the coaching staff? I remember Fuente's press conference after he was hired and he said that the staff would do their own evaluation of players and not depend on anyone else's.
They saw this kid as a 4 star recruit and their history of developing QBs got a commit from a kid in Illinois. Now his recruiting is blowing up and other schools are starting to pay attention.
