Louisville Cardinals coach Rick Pitino received a five-game ACC suspension as part of discipline from the NCAA on Thursday regarding a sex scandal that engulfed the men's basketball program.
In addition, the Cardinals will be on probation for four years, have scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions and the forfeiture of any money received though conference revenue sharing from the 2012-15 NCAA tournaments.
The status of Louisville's national title could also be at risk, as the NCAA ruled the school must vacate all basketball records in which student-athletes competed while ineligible from December 2010 and July 2014.

Silly Louisville... have you learned nothing from UNC?
Pitino gets off easy.
Just like his recruits
(Edited with a better joke)

How about just like Pitino did. He is a scumbag.
This story needs to disappear. Pitino had consensual sex with someone who later extorted him because he's rich and famous. Pitino cheated on his wife, so I won't claim that he's a decent human by any stretch, but as far as this story goes, he was a victim.
Not his best moment, as he failed the test, but she threw herself at him and then extorted him.
He also had to testify under oath that he lasted 8 seconds. That's hilarious no matter how you try to cut it.
FINALLY someone gets the right joke to my setup!!!
The fact that your original comment doesn't have +1million votes is ridiculous
Give the guy some credit, he said "less than 15 seconds"....he coulda gone 9, or 10, 11, 12, 13 or even 14 seconds.
Pitino has had previous NCAA sanctions, has had numerous previous NCAA allegations and this wasn't the first women he has been rumored to have had an affair with.
You have the quick-trigger Pitino joke in front of you and you went for his recruits? You're better than that.
Just like his players? Tried to make it more relevant to the matter at hand
Not according to Pitino
I sure hope our Hooker is more effective.
Nice little slap on the wrist for a major infraction. Those lovely blue-bloods...
The forfeiture of NCAA tourney revenue sharing for those years is a pretty big deal, actually. That's quite a bit of coin.
Hopefully ACC gets to keep and spread to other schools.
Anyone know if there's a precedent for this? This was my first thought when I saw the news
Money goes to NCAA. The potential forfeiture of final 4 and national championship are kind of a big deal. Shoulda lawyered up like UNC.
Kind of hard to lawyer up when the players (who had left UL) admitted everything.
Here's a tweet that Buzz liked recently that I thought was funny...
Something, something...Roy Williams...
The article I saw said they lose 4 basketball scholarships for their probation years. Isn't that kind of a big deal?
That's 1 per year, so not really. They're just gonna drop some guy at the bottom of the bench who was a GPA booster.
Gotcha, I interpreted that as 4 in each of those years.
So what happens to Rick Pitino now? Does this probation include a postseason ban? Does he get fired, retire, or just plain leave for a school without NCAA sanctions hanging over his head?
"At this time we believe it could impact 110 regular season games and approximately 15 NCAA wins."
That includes their 2012 Final Four and 2013 National Championship. So pretty much UofL keeping their banner depends on who is deemed ineligible due to "interacting" with the prostitutes.
Wonder if he gets the tattoo covered up. Off topic but vacating wins is the dumbest thing ever. Everyone knows who won those games.
They do know now but the idea is that history won't.
The money as much as it might be a big deal to a smaller school is a drop in the bucket to Papa John's U. They are flush with cash.
I would have actually wanted to see a real penalty to the coaching staff more than the players. The loss of 1 scholarship per year for four years will see a minor impact. The probation doesn't mean jack based on the past NCAA enforcement. There is no penalty for post season play. And being banned for 5 ACC games could be fairly minor.
seems legit
What about Bruce Pearl serving a 17 yr old a cheeseburger. He got fired and a show cause. I don't like Tennessee but I also don't understand that.
He got caught in a lie.
I'm not so sure that means much anymore.
When the NCAA has video or picture proof and you tell them a lie it's one of the few times they come down hard.
If the the NCAA is just going to hand out wrist-slaps, I'd prefer they at least outsource it to the local convents to administer them.

Put THAT on offseason ESPN!
So....this looks really really bad for Louisville...

This whole topic deserves its own thread because this has far-reaching implications.
Only if something is actually done about it.
Something something Pitino something...
Something something Miami something...
See UNC...
I always thought what happened with Montrezl Harrell was fishy as hell. Would not shock me if his commitment was a part of this, and he used the shooting as a convenient excuse to flip.
You're confusing Montrezl Harrell with a recruit whose name is escaping me right now. Harrell was released from his LOI after Greenberg was fired (though I recall it was expected he might ask for a release anyway).
EDIT: It was Gus Gilchrist who used April 16 to justify backing out of his LOI for VT. He went to Maryland and then transffered to USF under some shady circumstances. Only took 3 tries to get this all right.
So I was... Nevermind, then... I'll retract
Lots and lots of rumors circling....
Rick Pitino and/or the AD Tom Jurich have been fired with an announcement coming this morning.
New angle to this story. Louisville is suing Pitino.
