Justin Fuente confirmed what anyone who followed spring practice knew, Caleb Farley will play wide receiver this fall.
"Our staff feels that the best way Caleb can contribute to our success this season is playing wide receiver," Fuente said in a release. "Caleb is a gifted athlete who is passionate about the game and who has worked diligently since he arrived on campus. While receiver is certainly area where we're not deep at currently, we reserve the right to adjust Caleb's role should circumstances change."

I'm not sure how many snaps he will get to start the season but I'm glad he's at WR and he brings some much needed depth and playmaking skills . I can see him earning more time as the seasons goes on

I went to go get Andy Bitter's take on this and saw he started his vacation on the same day as this announcement. So clearly Fuente doesn't like Bitter and did a masterful job of trolling him.

Also, if you go back and look at Fuente's receivers in 2015 at Memphis, they are all 5'11 190 guys who get great YAC. Many are walk ons. That group shellacked a terrific Ole Miss team. Last season, the Hokies were dropping 30 plus points on a bunch of teams with an erratic QB and mismatched (although very talented) parts around him.
Now, let's look at the punch list- Fuente has wide receivers that fit his profile, yet are significantly higher end athletes than his Memphis receivers. He has an HBack in Dalton Keene that gives him the "lead in his pencil" at the point of attack that Sam Rogers, for all his awesome qualities, couldn't always deliver (IE- isolation like Mason described in his piece or picking up the backside defensive end on a power or wham play http://www.thekeyplay.com/virginia-tech-football/2017/06/13902/fuentes-y... ) For all of Jarod Evan's positives, when I go back and watch film, he left a lot of plays out there. If Jackson/Hooker/Bush can be relatively close to being as explosive and provide more efficiency, the offense will be better off.
This offense could be really friggin good. I, for fun, watched the Miami game over again. The offense didn't even play that well and Miami's young linebackers were constantly out of position. When the execution gets better, watch out.

Most importantly with this recruiting class on offense and Defense, I'm seeing a very athletic presence. Reminds me a little bit of Eddie Royal, Josh Morgan, Josh Hyman type of guys...and who wouldn't want that..even on Defense we had Brandon flowers and Macho harriss...very athletic team...our corners are a little different now but we are in great shape.

I like the thought of Farley, Hazelton, Patterson, Kumah and then recruits Turner, and Simmons...6 WR's that are all around 6'2" or taller. Our shorter guys like Pimpleton and Savoy I'm sure will be as elusive and fast as they come. I can't wait to see how these next couple of years go.
