We have experienced DBs, and Sills wasn't a receiver until he got to college. We've seen how converted receivers do firsthand against good talent in the secondary. Definitely makes for underachieving.
Not everyone is Braxton Miller. It would be nice though. Marcus Davis, Joel Caleb, etc.
I liked the part where we were winning 17-14
Some of this was bad play by the linebackers and others was having an injured Fuller.
That and his best catch and run was facilitated by a hellacious hold on dadi that kept him from making a saving tackle.
Everyone around here (self included) seems pretty excited about Caleb Farley and he's never played WR.

True, but he has the gift of speed that many other converted receivers in the past haven't had. Like I said above, Braxton Miller also had that gift.
Pretty sure slow people don't get converted to wide receiver. Looked up some video of him on youtube and he is getting behind people on go routes in the (very limited) clips out there.
Again, Marcus Davis and Joel Caleb, among other underachieving converted receivers, did not have the freakish speed that Miller had. Were they slow? Of course not. But they struggled with basic receiver concepts, such as route running, catching with the hands, blocking, etc. Tremendous speed can make up for these deficiencies.

So did Sills look that great in the Spring because he is an elite receiver, or because FWVU has no returning guys who can cover?
The latter, in my opinion. They lost 7 starters on defense from last season, and another got hurt over the summer and will be out for the first game. Their safeties might be the best in the Big 12, but, other than that, they'll be very inexperienced.
So they'll allow 47 points in a game instead of 48? Got it.

Watched the WVU spring game. They have to run the ball, and open up the play-action deep game to beat us, and I'm not buying their new Oline moving our Dline around like they are their new Dline. Advantage is definitely us on D.
Defensively, they got manhandled up front by those new Olinemen, but that secondary looks strong, if young. I'd say we shouldn't have a problem running the zone-read, counter, and option stuff against them if our Oline just hasn't regressed.Short passing game is probably our best bet for QB comfort and WR experience, but I don't know that their secondary would let us do that.
Holgerson ended it 3 minutes early with the defense up 44-21, offensive scoring like normal, defense 6 for a TD, 5 for a 3-and-out, 3 for TO or forcing a punt. Honestly, I'm not seeing the greatness of the offense, just a lot of potential, almost exclusively dependent on that new Oline.
And they practiced punting in the spring game, but no other special teams, so methinks that definite advantage in two phases, with a tie at worst in the third. At this point, I'm wondering how much money is on WVU, and if Vegas sees a big paycheck, or if I'm truly being a homer seeing this as so cut-and-dry?
