UNC unveiled their new practice helmet. Thoughts?

I'm really confused
UNC switched from Nike Swoosh branded items, to Nike Jordan/Jumpman branded items.
Apparently kids dig this stuff, while everyone else is like WTF

I know MJ played there but that is still weird (and looks awful). It would be similar to VT putting the Nike swoosh on their practice helmet.
Nothing says, "we'll always be a basketball school" like putting MJ on the side of a football helmet.
My thoughts as well. Even when they're playing football, they'd rather be playing basketball
Is that just another way of saying that they'd rather play indoors if it's raining?
Yes. Yes it is
Which helmets do they wear to classes?
Ha that's funny....classes....good one.
I think it's safe to say that the roof is the ceiling for that helmet.
The practice helmet is odd in my book, but the whole point is to entice recruits I guess. If that's what the kids are into these days, then UNC needs to show them something shiny/nice to disctract from the academic issues swirling around them.
UNC just rolled out their "new" uniforms with the jumpman logo on them since they are going with the Jordan brand like Michigan is. So that's why the practice helmet is new.

Maybe they think the NCAA will slap them with fewer sanctions if they really play up the whole "we're a bunch of incompetent nitwits" angle and they thought dumb uniform choices would be a good place to start.
So basically trying to beat the NCAA at their own game?
touche

Reminiscent of...
Jumping right over those pesky classes.
Wait, I get it. Maybe they're implying they'll be able to jump over puddles this year. They're going to be impervious to rain. Got it.
UNC putting the Jumpman logo on a football helmet is less weird than the VT Football Twitter account tweeting about it, imho.
ewwww
Fun story behind this tweet!
I was helping out Josh Parcell this morning while he recorded a podcast with Fuente and Beamer, and Pete was standing in the background while Josh was recording. One of the questions Josh asked Fuente was whether we would ever have "basketball inspired jerseys" like UNC.
I could literally see the lightbulb turn on in his head and he pulled out his phone -- and I now know why.
Thought the Jumpman was reflections of the lights. I had to take a second look after reading some comments. Needless to say, but I will anyway: I think the UNC helmet is shit.
Did anyone else see the other UNCheat helmet design just released?
All these moments will be lost, like tears in rain.
Wonder how those helmets hold up in the rain?
I'll offer an opposing view - I think the UNC helmets are sick.
MJ is the single most recognizable person in US sports history. He was the first athlete to get his own brand. 20+ years later, that list is still very small - many players get there own shoes/deals, but not many get a BRAND named after them, and no other athlete has a line that sponsors a college team (in any sport). I get that it's a 'basketball logo' on a football helmet, but that just shows how transcendent MJ was.
Personally, I'd prefer VTFootball didn't send this tweet. I get that a lot of alumni think UNC is being dumb and that this is a joke, but if I were a recruit and saw that, I'd keep staring at the UNC helmet.
I agree. Don't like them for normal helmets but for practice it's a pretty good recruiting tool. But I've never heard of a team with practice helmets though. When I played your helmet was your helmet everyday
Last I heard, VT's policy was that the players would wear their game helmets each day that week in practice, which was how we got a heads-up about some one-off helmets before gameday (though I think they started making a few exceptions over the last year or two.
I was thinking it would be something more like this.
Jesus some of these UNC people. Right now one is telling me on twitter that this helmet will make them the next Oregon.
I mean these are the same jackholes that don't realize that weather conditions are the exact same for both sides...
To be fair, their head coach leaving for a better job followed by a slip into national irrelevance is a very realistic possibility for them.
The only part that won't mirror Oregon is said coach actually being called out for NCAA violations.
Normally it's not a good idea to broadcast being a basketball school when you're desperately trying to get people to take you seriously in football. Have to give UNC a little credit for outright owning that shit and not shying away from it.
This all still feels like UNC trying to make up for Michigan beating them to the Jumpman game in the first place.
It is like UVA referring to Thomas Jefferson when stuck in a corner during an argument... "Yea well don't forget MJ played at UNC!!" said some football player... "Hey that is a great idea for a helmet!"
When does Stanford put this on their helmet?

Tiger is still cool, right guys?
I still find it funny that the school Jumpman went to wasn't the first school to brandish the logo...

This was my observation. Leg for beating me to it.
That's a dumb and immature tweet. Par for the course.
To avoid turning this into a debate about the twitter again... the helmet is weird but it's fine. It's for the recruits. Jumpman is a huge #brand that has a larger reach than just basketball. Some of their golf shoes are straight fire.
I was at Carowinds today and a guy behind me in a line for a coaster was dressed in all Carolina blue. He says, That (VT) hat would look a lot better if it were Carolina blue. I said, Well, the one good thing about this hat is it performs well in the rain. The joke went right over his head. He probably got it on the ride home.
Probably not. I doubt he follows UNC football at all.
I went on a blind date with a girl from UNC the evening after Frank's last home game in Lane. I asked her how her day was going, and she said pretty bad, because she's a die hard UNC fan, and her team lost. I had no idea what she was talking about, since they had just beaten us at home, in overtime. She then said that she was talking about basketball, and that no one at UNC cares about football.
Needless to say, we did not go on another date.
Did you even go on the first?
It was 100% blind, I knew nothing but her first name. I had no idea she was a terrible UNC fan until we were 5 minutes in.
Local news posted a video about this and said VT was "beefing down" with UNC.

The reporters seem to miss the fact that this is all part of a continued campaign to pick the state of North Carolina clean of their football talent. #NC2VT
Brownlow graduated from UNC and Joe Ovies is a tool who adores the smell of his own farts. Listen to them often on the ride home from work, and its not surprising at all to listen to that clip and see their reaction. Always enjoyable when people get publicly worked up because they're not in on the joke.
The brand is really cool but for me doesn't mesh with football.
Just seems to clash.
