I thought there wasn't going to be any uniform surprises this year?
No...just that designs wouldn't get too crazy. These are just white and gray versions of our standard maroon helmet.
Appear to be the same decals that we wore for UT last year, only a white base instead of black.
Different decals - this year's version inverts the white stripes and borders from last year to black.
Dumb question time: Are they actually new?
Yup. Only time we've had Hokie Stone on our helmets is 2013 against GT/Maryland and last year against Tennessee.

Looks good. I wonder what jerseys we will wear with these. Maybe the Hokie Stone jerseys make a reappearance? Our aways would be too much white, and the gray and black wouldn't go well with the standard maroons.
Seeing as how there's no maroon or orange on these, I'm guessing the Hokie Stone jerseys, but I don't necessarily agree that white on white would be a bad look.

Typically it wouldn't, but the gray and black isn't going to match the maroon and orange shoulder stripes on our away jerseys. Will be interesting to see what we go with.

Yeah you can. That rule got amended a few years back, and a few teams are currently wearing uniform sets with patterns in the numbers. For example, this is the uniform Minnesota wore in the Holiday Bowl last year:
Its tough to make it out, but there's a stone pattern in those numbers.

While they can be patterned, they still need to be substantially similar colors. Pretty sure Hawai'i couldn't come out with rainbow-patterned numbers, for example.
Honestly I like these. Think they would look pimp with maroon instead of the black (to wear with maroon or white jersey/pants).

Makes sense if it is. Last year the only jerseys of that style you could get had the B@B patch on it. They're selling #25 uniforms this year without the patch. Thought we might be breaking that out, looks like that's the case.
I think it'll look a little weird with the Hokie Stone jersey, but that is probably the only thing that they can wear it with....unless they have a new white uniform.
I used Clark's uni builder and it looked ok, but not as good as the black helmet and pants.

From the wording on this tweet ("Ready for the weekend!"), looks like we might be wearing maroon with it.
This jersey is probably the worst possible match in the team wardrobe for those helmets
They posted that overnight after the game last weekend. I'm guessing that's just a general statement that the uniforms are clean and ready for their next game (and that the VTEquip's incredibly long night is over), and not necessarily a statement they're our unis this upcoming weekend.

I don't think these are for this Saturday. Nothing in the tweets say that. Looks like they are still working on these helmets and the team normally practices in whatever helmets they are wearing for the next game.It wouldn't surprise me if these are for ECU. White helmet with some sort of white jersey would make sense for a road game. But they could easily be for ODU or Clemson. A special uni for a FCS game that isn't even on TV seems odd.Nevermind... I'm an idiot. Still seems odd to wear these against an FCS team. But I like them either way.

White Effect vs. ODU could be a matching white jersey.
White Effect vs. ODU will more than likely be the 2016 Belk Bowl white helmets we wore with our normal white away jersey and plain white pants.
If there's any difference to it, I could see a white facemask instead of the chrome maroon facemask.

But really though, for the white effect/military apprec. game, I totally get it. For a game in which the team and crowd are to wear maroon, almost exclusively, why would the team ditch the helmet that is, you know, maroon, for a white one? Sure, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make much of a damn difference...just find it odd is all.

Shout out to the Duke comeback win in 2012... that was the Maroon Effect game. I'm glad even though we have alternates now, we're consistent with the Effects and the VT Athletics brand.
We'll be wearing #AllMaroonEverything when Clemson and College Gameday roll into Blacksburg on September 30... along with a maroon VT mid-field logo and endzone wordmarks.
