ESPN announced College GameDay would broadcast live from Blacksburg, VA on September 30 prior to Virginia Tech's showdown against Clemson.

Per Wikipedia (I know), GameDay last set up shop in Blacksburg in 2007 for Tech vs. East Carolina. The Hokies have previously appeared on GameDay 14 times, and hosted 5 times. Overall, Tech is 4-9 (plus one cancelation) in those games. GameDay's sixth trip to Blacksburg will feature Lee Corso's 300th headgear selection.

I was there and often quote the "asterisk". Unfortunately, FSU won the quarter that mattered.
Even with that logic you have it backwards...
FSU led 14-7 at the end of the 1st. They led 28-14 at halftime. VT led 29-28 at the end of 3. FSU won 46-29. Individually, FSU won 3 out of the 4 quarters, with us only winning 1.

In 2011 Clemson was 13 this year they are 3.
I guess it is different since Clemson is the team with all the expectations. It interesting, someone on reddit was talking about how he felt this game was almost a turning point for both programs. Clemson went from contender to eventual tyrant and never looked back. VT went from league dominance to mediocrity, although it seems to be turning back around now.

That was pretty cool hearing Fowler and Herbstreit's excitement in their voice making the announcement along with the praise. You could tell they are genuinely looking forward to it. Now I'm bummed that I can't make it. I was lucky enough to attend multiple shows in my time as a student and its such a neat experience.
So do your part, students and anyone else that can make it. As we saw in the early 2010s, getting Gameday isn't a guarantee so don't take it for granted. Go out of your way to attend. Show up, be loud, and show the GD Crew that Hokie Hospitality that made Fowler and Herbstreit so excited.

Same... Moved down to Clemson territory in 2012, which is basically the worst possible timing. These people have incredibly short memories and feign like they don't know anything about Tech ever being a contender, much less having more ACC championships than them since we joined the conference.
Plus I work with basically 99% Clemson fans so being able to come back from the game with the W would make the last 5 years of suffering sooo worth it.
I feel the pain! I have lived in Clemson territory for like 10 years. Up until a few years ago hardly anyone wore shirts or had flags, but now everyone has become a Clemson fan... in the words of Johnny Cash "Sooner or later God'll cut you down."

I think the first time they showed up in 99 we broke the attendance record (I remember running into the stands that morning and it was pretty full). I think the second time in 99 there were even more people there.

Where do you think they will put the set on campus this time around?
Question: I'm spending the night with my friend at her apartment off campus on Friday night because we want to be front row at Gameday. What time should we be there? What time do the parking lots open at the airport? She said she believes the buses don't run until 7 AM. We plan to tailgate with my family at the airport after Gameday, so it'd be ideal if I could just park there early that morning and walk. What would you all do?
The lots may not open officially till 7 but you should be fine to be there anytime the night before. Lots of people leave their cars overnight before a game. As for gameday, if you want to be front row I wouldn't plan on sleeping much. They start doing broadcasts with the morning sports center. You will basically need to camp out to be first in line. We did it in 2005. It's exhausting.
We tailgated there for a spring game at 6am and didn't have any issues. Parking rules aren't enforced very strictly

Airport RV lots usually have someone manning the gate all night for the late night RVs that arrive. The Airport RV lot does not follow VT parking rules. They are run by separate groups.
The lightning bowl against Georgia Tech is the most memorable one for me on the list. We ended up parking up by the airport in what looked like an extra Tech Agriculture field because at that time they didn't have enough paved lots for the number of fans. All day long tailgate. Stumbled into the stadium and then the heavens opened up. Got completely soaked. Waited about 2 hours for the game to start but they eventually called the game due to lightning. Learned later that Lee Corso's rental car got hit by one of the strikes. Made it back to the car and by this time after the tailgating and the rain it was a complete muddy mess. No one could get their cars out of the lot. People were spinning tires, pushing each other's cars, etc. Finally got out and had to drive 4 hours back to DC area. I don't know how we made it back without falling asleep on I-81.
I was there too. Granted I was young, so no tailgating, but my dad and I got there around a half hour before kickoff, and we just watched the storm roll in. Stayed until one of the strikes was a bit too close for dad's comfort. I think that was my second or third time in Lane

They're at 9 straight wins. Their last regular season loss was actually the same day as ours (11/12/17).

I am so freaking excited for this game. Being on the younger side, where the first time I realized how big college football was at the 2007 BC (Fuck Matt Ryan) game, I can't say we have had a game that has felt this this since then. 2009 Miami did not have this feeling to it, 2011 Clemson, did not have this feel, none of the Bama games, nor the tOSU games have this feel to it.
This will be me all day Saturday, but a bit more booze-filled.

According to the Parking Services email that went out this morning., it looks like Gameday will be setting up on Alumni Mall.
Its funny, they announced it and had a tweet about it. But now its gone, and the tweet deleted as well.
Def the best spot for it, IMO. Big enough area to hold the crowd, and small enough to make the crowd look even bigger
If you use the right angle you can always make it look bigger.

Benny's wasn't around the last time gameday was in town. I'm speaking from personal experience. Gumby's was there, that's a bit of a different machine then Benny's. They put actual Crack Cocaine on their Pokey Sticks.

Sounds like they are doing the base for another "this is home" type campaign for recruits.
Probably some type of stunt to highlight our Nike shoe contract for the recruits.

There's a "College Football Live: Weekend Tailgate" airing at 5:30 PM on ESPN2. I'm assuming they'll have everything set up on Alumni Mall by this time tomorrow and will film the show there. I think this is the one you're looking for.
Hopefully Hokietapes will record and upload most of the content leading up to Saturday. I know they have most of the old Gameday shows.
I think I read that they are filming the show at 3pm and airing it at 5:15 or 5:30pm.
