USA Today: Virginia Tech's Justin Fuente knows how to find fine QBs; this time it's Josh Jackson

Great write up on Fuente and Cornelson, and their ability to find and develop QB talent

"(Cornelsen) has a really unique gift and a great gift for evaluation and is able to not always do the same things we've done in the past just because they used to work but try and craft those things to fit the players talent level," Fuente said. "For instance, I think Brad made an early kind of evaluation that Jerod was a pretty darn good inside runner and we didn't feel as comfortable standing back there in the pocket for long periods of time with him as we did with Paxton the year before, so we try to tweak those things to fit those guys' skill set while still trying to develop the things they may not be good at. I think it starts with our coordinator, who has a unique eye and the ability to think a little bit outside the box to mold what we're trying to do."

But Lefty "found" him

If there is one thing we can thank Lefty for, it's Jackson

And a few others.

With ex-Hokie Andrew Ford putting up big numbers at UMass along with JJ at Tech, Lefty has proven he can identify and recruit solid QBs.

I thought Andrew Ford was drafted by the Dolphins

The Dolphins are hoping he can be an immediate "impact player."

keh' vin

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

I watch UMass football, me and 15 other Americans...

Ford has been really good, despite UMass being exceptionally bad. He has done an especially good job in limiting turnovers. They have no talent though. Brenamen is probably a NFL tight end if he can stay healthy. He didn't play last week against UT.

If not for Brenamen missing the game and Ford getting injured in the third quarter and not returning, I fully believe an 0-4 UMass would have beat Tennessee in rocky-top and Butch Jones would be job hunting come Sunday morning.

The knock was never on his recruiting, it was his play calling/game planning/making things too damn complicated.

Ask BC how they're feeling about Lefty's offense right now.

Did my comment sound like a compliment because it wasn't intended to be one.

No, sorry, I meant to agree with you. I live up in BC territory and I've read that Addazio's job is on the line due to how particularly inept their offense has been this year.

I'm loving the Chip Kelly hypotheticals. They are hoping some mysterious BC alum is going to come out from the woodwork to pay him Tennessee/A&M/USC/ND $$$.

Addazio is almost definitely gone by seasons end. This is probably the best BC team has had during his tenure, despite the fact the offense can't score points.

Honestly, it still may have been an improvement on what they had before...

Checks out.

2015 - 3 wins, 206 points scored*, 2 offensive shutouts
2016 - 7 wins, 265 points scored, 1 offensive shutout

*76 of those points came against Howard.

Loeffler, despite all his play calling/player development issues, left our program in a better place than he found it. I'm appreciative of that, and try to avoid throwing shade at him because of it.

Lefty found him, but Cornelsen and Fuente got him signed and developed him and the offense.

Will espn notice? I think not. Great article though! JJ show them all this Saturday!

They'll notice.

Yeah and they are all glowing about what Fuente has been able to do in such a short time.

I am cautious to heap so much praise and pressure on a Freshman QB who has yet to face a legit power 5 Defense (WVU gave up 34 to Kansas....).
JJ is a smart kid with all the tools to be a great college QB, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about how he will perform this Saturday.

heartburn since about 5:30 last saturday, I'm not sure how much more I can take
