My brother is driving down from Detroit for the game and has our lot 16 parking permit. I am coming up from Raleigh and plan to hit Blacksburg significantly earlier than him. We have an AirBnB over in Salem and he will most likely be the DD for the evening. I was wondering if parking in Salem and taking an Uber to Blacksburg is realistic/affordable or if I should just try and find public parking near the stadium and deal with getting back to my car in the morning? Or if anyone is passing through Salem and wouldn't mind giving me a lift to the tailgate. Was planning on hitting the TKP tailgate until he arrives around 3pm.
Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I would give you a ride if I didn't already have a full vehicle.
The Smartway Bus should be running. I would suggest you park at Exit 140 Park and Ride (it's one of the Salem exits).

Thanks! Looks to be 2 miles from where I am staying so hoping this works out!
An Uber from Salem to Blacksburg should cost around $20 I would think. As long as there is one available, its probably not a bad way to go.
I wish I could get an Uber from Arlington to Falls Church for $20....
Maybe I am used to splitting them. I have Ubered from Centerville to Arlington before, but I was also drunk and everything seems cheaper and my wallet always seems thicker.
Came up on this thread because I was searching for parking suggestions, but saw the Centreville mention. I'm from Centreville, and moved back there for a bit after college. Going out anywhere was a hassle because Arlington's the closest place around with any semblance of decent night life. Uber either didn't exist or was just getting started, so I had no choice but to be sober during nights out..........
I work in Salem and I checked the Uber app for an estimate from here to the Lions Club and it was $55. I have no idea if Saturday/Gameday will have surge pricing though.
Wow. I would have never thought it would be that much. I feel like I have ubered across northern VA for less than that.
thanks, i checked a rate site and saw about the same estimate, figure with gameday and traffic would be much higher.
I know a guy who was running an uber for the ohio state game from roanoke airport to Lane. With the surge it was running upwards $300 one way. Miiiight be better, but just a warning.
I'll be coming from Lynchburg and passing through Salem on my way to the TKP tailgate if you want a ride.
Throw me $10 for gas and I can pick you up at the Salem park and ride around 8:00 or so.
Also, if anyone else is coming from the Lynchburg/Bedford area and wants to carpool, I'm down.
Not exactly sure when I'll be headed back though. If we win and there are parties down town, I may stay around after the game for a bit. If I'm sobered up, I'll probably drive back that night. Guess I'm playing it by ear.
How many seats do you have? I think we're driving but just curious.
I got a four door pickup and it's just me right now. I can easily fit four adults or five if the guys in the back are friendly.
Might just meet you at the Salem park and ride. I'll keep you posted once I figure out who's going on my end.
Sounds good. I'm also down to ride with you guys and chip in for gas money if that is better for you. Shoot me an email if you want to do something. I might not check this thread again and don't want to miss your message.
We don't have a parking pass haha. I'll hit you up tomorrow. I've got a buddy trying to find a ticket so I'm waiting to see what he does.
I don't have a parking pass either. Planning on parking in one of the public lots on the backside of campus. Also, I'm still looking for a ticket, so if he finds a pair, I'd take the second one.
Also, if you're in Lynchburg, why don't we meet somewhere closer than Salem? I live near the Goode Store on 221 between Forest and Bedford. We could meet there or at the Bedford Walmart on 460. No sense in either of us driving any farter than necessary.
park on the street in McBryde village (right across Price's Fork Road from the parking garage/Goodwin Hall). It's a relatively short walk to the TKP tailgate and you can go out the back of the neighborhood and take Tom's Creek Rd out to the 460 bypass instead of battling the Price's Fork traffic.
Appreciate the offer, probably won't roll into Salem until around 10:30.
Weather service building near the airport. Free parking just about .25 miles away from the pay RV lot
Does anyone know if the parking garage is still available for gameday parking for $20 or whatever it was? I haven't been to a game in a while.
Yes, it's still available, but will probably fill up quickly for this game.
Before I had a parking pass, I parked at the Kroger on University City Blvd and paid $5 to ride the bus to the stadium.
Park in Hethwood and take the bus. Free parking and the P2 bus at the end of the game circles back through there unless they have changed it.
