Sean Savoy's Brother Killed

Sean's brother was shot and killed in DC last night. Really feel for him and his family after coming off a career night. Will likely take some time away from the team during the bye week.

Thoughts and prayers to the Savoy family.

That's horrible. My prayers for him and his family. Thanks for sharing.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Nothing to say. Beyond senseless and tragic. This is so terrible.

Really makes football look small in comparison

This is so terrible and tragic. My sincerest condolences to the Savoy family.

Oh no! How incredibly sad. Hugs and prayers for this young man's loved ones.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

Words fail at times like these. All the best to him and his family and hope they find some comfort in good memories.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I hate it for the family. As far as Sean goes, something like this is a life changer. The loss of a loved one can shake you to your core and it takes a ton of strength just to get back to normal life. But you do get back.

Just know Hokie Nation is with you and your family Sean!

That's just awful. Prayers and sincere condolences to his family.

Saddening and tragic.
I pray for him and his family.

Man! Boogie showed out last night too. My prayers go out to the family. Hold your head boogie. Hokienation will hold you down!!

Hokie Love!

I hurt for Sean. My brother is the closest person to me and I could not imagine going through that.

Is there confirmation of this? I've looked around and haven't found anything. Don't want us spreading something that isn't true.

I've only seen one tweet about it, and that account seems sort of spammy. Only other thing is Sean retweeted somebody who said he was "here thru it all" for him. That's literally all I've seen, but that definitely doesn't mean it's not true.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Yeah. I'm not saying it's not true, but I'd like to have some type of official confirmation for something this serious.

I adjusted the title of this thread. I saw several tweets earlier implying something had happened, at least one of which may have been deleted because it no longer shows up. At least one remains offering support/prayers that Sean RT'd but it could be easy to over-interpret that.

Hoping for the best for Sean and family.

I wouldn't post something of this nature unless I'm 100% certain of it

Heartbreaking.

Just terrible.
Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Prayers to the family. VT is behind you. We understand.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

So sad to hear.

From Savoy's instagram account it unfortunately appears to be true.

I happy that Sean has more time now to be with his family without any worry of insignificant things like football for a couple weeks. Terrible news. Can't even imagine.

If true, this is terrible. A guy I sat near, at the WVU game, said he was Savoy's brother - was beaming ear to ear the whole game and had nothing but nice things to say.

His brother's username on Instagram is 15vtechhokiesbigbrova. They seem to have been very close. Just awful news.

i'm not seeing any news reports on this at all

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Me either but Sean is retweeting the condolences and Nathan Proctor tweeted condolences. Evan Watkins posted the original report on VtScoop. His sources are direct to the team and he's an up front guy.

I'm taking this as confirmed.

edit: sadly confirmed

God that fucking sucks. Hope he can be okay. Glad he has some time to go be with his family during the bye week.

Damn that's rough. Hope the NCAA allows Tech to help him get home quickly and take care of any pressin needs he may have.

Heartbreaking news, hopefully Sean will make to the NFL and he will make sure those kids who lost their father will be financially set.

What is his brother's name?

Omar

Anybody feel like we (Hokie Nation + TKP) can and should do something BEYOND offering condolences??

First we need to let the family decide what is and is not appropriate along with staying within NCAA guidelines..

I know this is a bit of a somber thread, but I just had to point out that the VT Football twitter account posted a tweet containing "teabagpaulus", even if it's only because it's in a Twitter handle they were responding to.

That is awful... I couldn't imagine what he must be going through.

Hope we can do something to help without stepping out of bounds of the NCAA regulations.

The "hardcore hokie fans" facebook page was talking about wanting to do something for the family today, one thing brought up was start a gofundme account to pay for funeral costs...curious as to how the NCAA would feel about that? Any thoughts?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

See above tweet from VT football. Let the family make the decisions, and then let the school inform about what is allowable. Even the best intentions might have negative repercussions, as dumb as that may sound.

Clemson did something back in 07 or 08 when one of the player's little brother was left alone by crack head mother, who ended up in jail. A lot of times, these kids don't have perfect lives coming out of high school, and need football for normalcy. A rb from fresno st, Matthews maybe? Was homeless his whole life until college. There was a pretty rough story on a kid at Uconn last Friday. Its a shame they exist, but the NCAA has found ways to help these student athletes beyond a scholarship. The Fresno RB got additional housing grants, and sobering was mentioned on Friday about the Uconn player. Chances are, we as a community should be able to help Sean and his family.

According to the person who shared it, it has been cleared with the compliance office

I would still be wary about it...

I hate to say it, but anyone can start a GoFundMe or other crowdfunding campaign purporting to be anyone with little repercussions, and even if it is a legit campaign we have no idea if they are telling the truth where they say that they cleared it with the compliance office unless we hear something official, which we likely wouldn't.

Virginia Tech football twitter tweeted out the go fund me page saying if you would like to help his kids you can donate here... I would hope they would check things before they go out posting things.

That's all well and good, but

It is being organized by D'Andre Plantin's mom, so I am pretty sure it is one player's mom supporting another player's mom.

If someone was trying to scam us, this would be found out pretty quickly.

Maryland man is charged in killing of brother of Virginia Tech wide receiver

D.C. police on Friday arrested a Maryland man in the Oct. 8 fatal shooting of the brother of a football player for Virginia Tech.

Authorities said they charged Michael Leonard Jones, 21, of Bladensburg, Md., with first-degree murder while armed. Jones might make an initial appearance in D.C. Superior Court on Saturday.

Details of the arrest and possible motive behind the shooting of Omar Earl Rogers were not divulged. Additional information could be made available after the suspect is in court.

Good. Finally. That's good.
