Bitter blog - Loeffler irked by mistakes; Foster by short week, ESPN writer

The injury report is on the front end of that too.

Bud Foster leaving Mama Giraffe a voicemail sounds like music to my ears.

She tried to listen to the voice mail, but this is all that happened:

"Exit light..."

Anyone know how much it'll cost to fix? Many thanks.

Why didn't I think of creating that profile first...

Why would anyone make my profile except me? You're not making sense.

I just heard the voicemail. I can't repeat what Bud said, so I'll just summarize how it went with the use of a visual aid:

MacKenzie McHokie, I love it!

Is it wrong that the VT makes her look more attractive to me?

I'd say you're doing it right.

That woman... The only thing I can think of is that she has money on the game and thinks that that comment is going to cause the defense to break down and GT to win or it's going to make them so pissed off they'll swarm over the bumble bees like angry Japanese hornets. I'm going with the former from her track record of stupid.

Hey now, they murder bees for fun. I saw it on the Discovery Channel.

One of the best segments ever.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I can only wonder what that voice mail Bud left for Dinich was like...

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I think you are using the term "writer" a little too loosely.

Not a fan.

Andy, is Heather even a well-respected writer within the ACC bloggers community? I'm sure you know the bloggers from all the other schools, she has to be the butt of a lot of jokes.

Rip his freaking head off!

Also, I think the best part of all of this is that it shows that she didn't even watch the game on Saturday. She just looked at the stats and assumed that was good enough to write about the downfall of the Hokies.

Rip his freaking head off!

I was going to make a new post about THE NECK..she pisses me.off. $ecespn doesn't like the hokies for some reason..why call the dc to say what happened with your defense..I know she didn't see the game..if a program doesn't have an exciting offense espn writes them off.
Foster would prefer both teams to be coming off byes, like Clemson and N.C. State were last Thursday night.

Bonus: Bud Foster got an interesting voice mail from ESPN ACC blogger Heather Dinich.

Foster started his interview by talking about a phone message he got from Dinich after the Marshall game.

"She called, left me a message," Foster said. " Im looking at the stat sheet and what happened? It doesnt look like the same team that showed up with Alabama.' ... I left her a message too, as you guys can imagine."

Foster went on to say how good he thought Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato was in that game.

"The kid played a hell of a game," Foster said. "Youve got to give him credit."

What I would do to hear Buds' voice mail.

Also the best period of 'The Neck's' career at ESPN is when she took an extended break and Matt Fortuna wrote for the ACC.

Ugh...the Tuna isn't much better. There really aren't but a few "writers" that are any bit decent. David Hale, the NoleNation blogger, is another that falls in line with the "FSU will win the National Title" group.

I also dislike the emphasis on certain teams within the blogs. If ESPN wants to be taken seriously in journalism (very questionable), then they're doing a poor job of being unbiased. Here's a blog all about all of the ACC teams...with a particular special emphasis on the one that we like best!

"Exit light..."

ESPN is in the journalism business as much as the big cable news networks. They care more about how many people they can get tuned in than being unbiased. Hell, they'll warp stuff into a bias if it gets them 2% more viewers.

I completely agree. I just find it hilarious that they call their contributors "reporters" rather than "promoters." It's thinly veiled. I don't fault them for it, necessarily, because they're a company and they're trying to make money. It's just sad how many people buy into the "ESPN is the be-all-end-all of sports knowledge." Coverage and variety to watch? Yep, ESPN wins hands down. Analysis and thoughtful commentary? I'll take TKP :)

"Exit light..."

I hear ya. I don't feel like I'm ready to watch a game until I've read her previews:

Expect the Hokies to play to win.

This kind of insight really changes the way I watch the game. French and Mason do a great job with the technical mumbo jumbo but they tend to miss stuff like this.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Beautiful sarcasm sir, well done. Good thing I had nothing in my mouth when I read this.

VTCC '86 Delta Co., Peru Hokie, Former Naval Aviator, Former FBISA, Forever married to my VT87 girl. Go VT!

I especially like it when she says things like,

"The offense has struggled so far."

That really sells me on her writing an analysis.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Well, I'm not exactly wrong, am I?

I love HD! Man, I am not sure what I would do without it. I mean its clyster clear image has revolutionized the way I watch football!

Oh I am sorry, you were talking about Heather Dinich? I don't think even her mom likes her.

My mom enjoys reading my analysis very much, mind you. And even my dad does too, occasionally....

Thanks for the support! I'm getting a real negative vibe from the rest of the site, though. Not sure why.

Fifty bucks says she doesnt link this article in her "Lunchtime Links" tomorrow

@CaptKirkVT10

She may not, but don't rule out Andrea doing the honors.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

That was the first and last time I'll ever comment on an ESPN blog. I just had to point out her failure.

Yeah, she has the company anti hokie line down. You think recuits don't read the acc blog.....

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Just like I told Justin at WSET on facebook..he saw the Andy's blog...espn was again putting down the Hokie stone helmets. Willburn and cornasshole ;)

I don't get what the big fuss is. Obviously Bud's defense underachieved against Marshall (21 points and 360 yards? Seriously? Against MARSHALL??)

I just left him a nice voicemail asking for his thoughts on why exactly that was, and all I got back was Bud Foster yelling a string of words nobody should ever say in public. If anything you should be mad at him for not having his defense prepared, I'm just trying to report on it.

I generally award turkey legs for things that make me smile, laugh, chuckle, or think. Here's a turkey leg for 3/4.

i guess Chuckle is the odd man out?

Anybody else happy about this line?

Notice that running back J.C. Coleman isnt on there. Hell play after missing three of the first four weeks with an ankle injury.

I think JCG gives our backfield another weapon to choose from, especially with Edmunds' hip thing.

Definitely.

JCG?

JC Goldman. Because every time he touches the ball, the play is gold.

I thought you were going to say because he's money in the bank (Goldman Sachs)

Good save ashore13! JC Goldman is a mench, indeed. HA!

I figured it out. HD and AA were drinking on Saturday night and AA bet her 100 Acacia tree leaves to call Bud and ask him why he gave up more yards to Marshall than Bama.

I'd love for you to confirm this, Mama Giraffe

Don't tell my boss I said this, but... you're not too far off.

It was David Hale, not AA. (For the love of God, don't go drinking with AA.)

And the bet was for him to pick Miami when they play FSU on November 2.

I still don't know if you're the real Mama Giraffe or which TKPer is faking you.

Nice hooves, though...

Giraffes don't have hooves. They're related to camels...

I see what you did there!!!!

Sh!t!

Nice toes, then... [Boom]

I mean her initials are AA. How could she be any fun to drink with?

from Bitter's online chat:

Comment From Hokie74
I feel that the offense has no sense of urgency. That I feel goes to leadership, and if I look when the no urgency started, it was with Logan Thomas. I just feel he is so "blah" as a leader and QB to make our offense go. Why does it seem like he thinks we have 200 plays a game?

Andy:
The coaches would think otherwise. They regularly praise Logan's leadership, unequivocally.

But I'm sure you know more, having watched him on TV and all.

hahaha.... Bitter burn

I am personally very scared that there are so many people that think leadership is pointing the finger and getting in peoples faces. The most important part of being a leader is being steadfast in the face of opposition. If you cannot be the rock in which your team depends - then you are no leader. Set the example, be steady, and hold yourself to the highest possible standard. These are true leadership qualities. Me thinks the Frankinator has seen some good examples in his short stint in football - maybe we should take his word on this.

Great point. I was thinking the same thing last weekend when someone asked about Logan's "intangibles." He'll occasionally get in someone's face about something, but it's rare. He remains even-keel, even when the game is on the line. Avoiding "high highs" and "low lows" is, I think, one of the greatest qualities of leadership. The team will follow his example, especially in clutch situations.

"Exit light..."

"No way! Every qb doesn't have to be an asshole like Philip Rivers or Tom Brady?? I thought WRs would only play for you if they feared an impending hissy-fit would occur if they screwed up!" <- that Hokie fan, apparently.

It was a catch

To me the best story of a QB keeping his cool is Joe Montana in Super Bowl XXIII, where they were down in points on the last drive of the game and on their own 8 yard line. He strolls into the huddle and makes a joke about John Candy. Then they drive 92 yards for game winning touchdown. That's the epitome of a leader on the field. Eye of the Hurricane bitches. Intense players, like Tom Brady, will win but leaders that can manage their team's anxiety will become legend.

I like how Logan is keeping a smile on his face and also getting in the face of his teammates. No he is not Joe Cool but he is a much better leader this year.

One thing I've noticed is how much Logan looks like he's enjoying himself out there. It's how he looked in 2011. Last year, he showed mostly negative emotion and seemed to get in his own head, never really picking himself up. A leader has to have the strength to pull the team back up and he couldn't do it to himself last year. It's nice to see that change.
