It's crazy how competitive this matchup has been recently. 5 of the last 6 matchups have been within 4 points. The one blowout was VT's 41-20 win in 2012, but Duke jumped out to a 20-0 lead in that game. Since 2013, the cumulative score has been Duke 95, VT 94.

Looks to me like we are doing what we've been doing all season. Not sure if that's vanilla or not. Also, I am not buying that Miami was vanilla - they just didn't dominate UNC like we did.
I'm good with vanilla game-plan ONCE WE ATTAIN a modestly, comfortable lead (i.e. twenty-something or 31-7). Anything less than 20 pts is too risky (IMOP).

Not converting on 4th downs in general against lesser opponents. Conversions on 4th downs are already gonna be a low stat for any team. Just because something works in practice, doesn't mean it's gonna work in the real game. Plus, add in the rain factor.
Not trying FG's that have zero chance in this mess when a punt it likely to go into the EZ and make a 5-10 yd diff doesn't make sense regardless of who we're playing.
