The Hokies dispatched the Blue Devils 24-3. Enjoy Tech storming into Lane Stadium to Enter Sandman prior to kickoff. Also catch the result of the athletic department's "Light Up Lane" effort.

Also, Justin Fuente was rather enthusiastic over the Hokies' doing what it took to win in adverse weather conditions.
"You battled your asses off," Fuente said.

BUT NOT TODAY
That's the right answer.
It would've been cool if they killed the stadium lights and just had the Jumbotron and cell phones during the tunnel walk. I wonder how long it takes for the stadium lights to warm up though.
I think we had this discussion on TKP a few years ago. The lights can't just snap on and off like LED. It takes a long time for them to warm up. Would be cool, just not possible. Plus you wind up with a huge safety liability if people are going up or down the stadium steps and suddenly the lights go out.
As a first year law student in torts right now, the idea of turning the stadium lights off like that made me cringe. All the liability, just all of it.
WWE gets away with it somehow. I wonder if they put a little assumption of risk agreement in the fine print on the ticket.
Usually fine print does not work for that kind of stuff, especially assumption of the risk.
However, there's plenty of ways to make it work in terms of liability - clear announcement/timing when lights will go off, etc.
They do this at Duke now

It is pretty cool. I guess it can be done.
The Hannibal Lector part is a little weird, the atmosphere is subdued but the lighting is on point.
Agreed. The Hannibal thing made no sense and I wasn't impressed with the "LIT-ness" of the stadium occupants. That being said, I'd LOVE to see this in Lane for a big night game. Maybe one day they'll upgrade to LED for other reasons and we'll get a chance at this as a byproduct.
I bet it comes with a photo-electric seizure warning.
I don't like the presentation of what they are doing. I do however love the idea and lights
They shut off the lights in Cassell during pre-game intros all the time, but that's indoors vs outdoors, a lot less people, etc...
Engineer says: why turn them off when you could rig a tinted cover to automatically cover and retract in front of the lights. Solves both problems.
I thought they recently upgraded the lights to LED?
Who's in for a TKP "NOT TODAY" tshirt? Love that
I hate to say it, but that's a thing that could turn against you at some inconvenient point.
When? Today?
No, not tod...
Ok, you got me.
i will not getting one of those for my wife to wear or borrow.
looking at your handle and then this gif made me all......

but it's honestly the first quote I thought of too.....
Letting Sandman play out longer which led everyone singing to the end of the first chorus was awesome. Gave me chills.
Agreed. That was awesome. Can I send in my request for the TKP team to get that on video next home game?
Yes, it was one of the best enter sandman's I've seen in person. The crowd singing the chorus after the music cut was freakin awesome and can only imagine what it would have sounded like at full capacity, should be that way always.
Can we all just sit back and imagine what it would have been like if they had done that for Klempson??? It was awesome last night, the hype thrusters would have been at MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE if they had done that a month ago.
Let's make this the new tradition, so much cooler and incorporates well into the START JUMPING thing.
When did they start playing the "Get ready Hokies, exit light..." right when the guitar drops? Just let the music play...
yeah the first time I noticed was the Clemson game. I hate it.
They need to stop doing it. Almost totally kills the vibe.
Wish the TV producers would stop playing shitty music overtop the entrance. Two weeks in a row this has happened.
The ACC will never pay Metallica for the rights to play it on a broadcast.
Pete said " the networks wanted to try a different look", why would networks have to pay for broadcasting a song played over open air by another who already pays? That would mean they have to pay for every song played over Lane speakers.
It could also be that Metallica is really, really aggressive in protecting their rights. After all, they got Napster shut down.
That's also one song that every broadcaster knows is going to be coming through the speakers at Lane, and when it's being played. So they can't play the ignorant card.
Lars shut down Napster
Agreed. Every NBA game you hear tons of songs that they are playing in the arena. You can't tell me TNT is then paying the artist for some music they incidentally catch on the broadcast?
I always wondered about this, but your explanation makes sense. The network did play it for WVU, though.
ESPN will pony up for the big games. Raycom doesn't have that kind of money.
How do they select fans in the orange shirts to be on the field for the entrance? Seems like they should be behind the cadets but assuming money is involved.
All of the other athletes. They get to be on the field for one game every season.
Thought that was only seniors?
Not sure I've ever seen a more enthusiastic high-fiver than Chung! Start the video at 2:55, dude is HYPE and almost takes out Facyson.
Apparently Fedora called Cutcliffe to give him post game advice.
I think the playing of "God's gonna cut you down" by Johnny Cash as the team walks to the tunnel is awesome and works perfectly in prepping the crowd for "Enter Sandman".
Yeah, there's a certain genius to that combo.
Wanted to throw this out there, got a fan survey for if you went to the game. Since my season tickets were used but I didn't go wanted to open the comments up for people who did go but won't get the survey. Let me know if you want to participate and I'll post your answers for the survey through my questionnaire.
Sure, I'll answer whatever
How long did it take you to get into Lane?
After getting in line at the gate? Maybe 90 seconds. Seriously. And we were just in time for Johnny Cash and Sandman. A huge improvement over the 15-20 minutes against Miami last year.
I'll participate. Is it for all the home games or just Duke? Either way, glad to help.
Pretty sure Fuente's feelings on Cutcliffe and Fedora are 180 degrees apart.
1:25 left in the 4th vs Duke: Victory Formation.
1:25 left in the 4th vs UNC:

Facts
Haha, damn right. And Fedora had a much nastier post-game handshake exchange this week with Richt. All this has to catch up to him soon.
Saw that one of their top commits, LB Payton WIlson, is scheduling a Notre Dame visit now. Would've loved to have had him and Dax in a perfect world, but at this point watching their recruits bail is the best of karma.
For the most part coaches don't say anything outside of normal coachspeak about other coaches but lots of guys seem to speak in glowing terms about Cutcliffe and Duke. You don't really hear that about Fedora and UNC or Narduzzi.
Iono how many times I've watched this now
