"Nosal sheds allegiances to Hokies to further coaching career at Miami"

Norm Wood caught up with former Virginia Tech offensive lineman Greg Nosal and it was a solid read. Nosal, who contributed, among other things, a half-inch of his pinky to the Hokies, is a quality control analyst with Miami. He's trying to make his break and chase a dream in the coaching profession. It's a nice behind the scenes look at the work it takes to come up the ranks.

"It's enough to survive in Miami, which is a high cost-of-living city," Nosal said. "It's definitely a lot more expensive to live here than Blacksburg, Virginia, but with these types of jobs, it really is about you're trying to impress the guys you're working for, so that they recommend you later on in life. You're just getting so much more experience with everything you're doing. It's worth it."

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I read that headline.

Good for him. I hope he does well!

Starting on Sunday.

No, I hope he does a great job analyzing the quality control (whatever that actually means). I hope everyone else on Miami struggles to remember what a football is on Saturday. But I hope our Hokie does great things.

it's a film analyst position

Thank you. See, he can analyze the shit out of the film after we beat them senseless.

Well...best of luck to the man. Wish him mouthing but success.

I get it. Can't bring yourself to say it, so you just move your lips a little.

Burned by Swype and a lack of proofreading. Bravo good sir

I figured it was just Freudian.

It was perfect, really.

The only thing the VT-Miami rivalry is missing (other than a classy opponent for VT, of course) is a cheesy B1G-style trophy. I recommend the Half-Inch of Pinky Trophy, or perhaps simply The Digit if you're into the whole brevity thing.

We really don't have enough trophy games. There's no way us and Miami should be without

I suggest we play for the turnover chain, and buy a trash can to keep it in.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Can we have/use Tennessee's when they fire Butch Jones? Those gimmicks were made for each other

One cannot deny that the turnover chain belongs in a trash can.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Wouldn't that mean we have to put the lunch pail on the line? Also since it seems to be all over every thread this week, why the hate for the turnover chain? IMO i think it's good for business, Miami, and college football. It reminds me of the Miami that danced on Gerry Faust's grave or the team that showed up to the Fiesta Bowl in camo. Give me that Miami, because ultimately it is what is best for business and feels better when you beat them.

...That's what Maryland does.

I don't give a damn what the fans think cause, quite frankly, I know what the fans want better than they do.

Hells yeah! It just lends itself to a really good pairing -- Lunchbox vs Chain. You can't make it any better. Actually you make it better by the captains meeting at midfield with the Lunchbox and the Chain.

That would actually be awesome

I love it and its why I love college football. I hate the Canes, but I love that they embrace UM and honestly, college football and the ACC needs a strong Miami. Makes it more fun IMO and the turnover chain just adds to it. Just like us digging up turf after a road win. aTm pissed and moaned about it, but if you want to stop us from doing it, beat us. If you don't want to see the TO chain, don't turn it over.

Why do I hate the turnover chain? Because it's lamer than Barry Manilow on 8-track. Softer than warm cream cheese on soggy UVA toast. As douchey as Pat Narduzzi and Paul Johnson spraying Axe body spray on Lane Kiffin. As obnoxious as a bunch of loosely connected sentences without good use of an Oxford comma...

The imagery is artistic to say the least. This is imo what makes the chain great though, very few people are lukewarm on the chain. Love or hate it, people will talk about it which is what is best for business. It is loud and in your face, it basically says "If you don't want us to dance on your grave learn a thing or two about ball control". Most importantly there is a great deal of self-awareness about the chain. Also I can't hate Lane Kiffin, his constant online trolling of Bama is just plain funny.

I was about to say the same thing. Lets make teh chain our trophy. Someone last week posted a great GIF of Devo taking the dude's chain in Friday.

I was at the game when that happened. Was it Western Mich? Anyways, I remember seeing some staffers looking around the field during a commercial break and thinking someone lost a contact lense. I was wrong.

One of the directional Michigans. If you click the link in the OP, the opponent is mentioned in that article.

Leg for Lebowski Reference!!

Leg to you for catching one of two references there. The other is much more obscure, but David Feherety wrote a book called A Nasty Bit of Rough, which is a hilarious must-read if you enjoy golf even a little bit. In it, two golf clubs that both claim to be heirs of the creators of the sport compete every 50 years for the petrified middle finger of St Andrew, a trophy they refer to as The Digit. Probably the funniest book I've ever read.

I just ordered the book based on your recommendation. I'll return the favor. 'Fast Greens' by Turk Pipkin.

'In a timeless story of golf in the Kingdom of Texas, a young caddie gets in a deadly grudge match among a world of liars, cheats, and hustlers. Searching for the meaning of golf and life---and for the father he's never had---thirteen-year-old Billie Hemphill will witness magic, miracles, redemption, and revenge. Too true to be fiction, and too wonderful to be true, it is a must-read for every golfer, or anyone who loves a great Texas tale'.

A favorite of mine.

If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you. I lent my copy to a friend at work a couple years ago and have lost hope of getting it back, so I need one anyway. It's likely a moot point though, because unless you hate drunken debauchery, golf, and fart jokes, you won't be disappointed.

Most of what he learns at Miami would need to be forgotten.

Like the idea of a "turnover chain".

When he leaves for bigger and better things, hopefully he can steal and destroy the chain.

Maybe he will give us a copy of their playbook....

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

with the 10th coaching position opening up next year, I hope he lands an actual Assistant Coach job somewhere other than Miami.
