Sorry guys going to have to be just a game thread to start with. Detroit returns about 80% of their scoring from an 8-23 team last year. We will get to see Blackshear on Blackshear down low in this one. I will add tidbits as this one goes but got stuck away from the computer too long
Game is on the ACC Network so barring a few places getting local channels picking it up this one is strictly on ESPN WatcESPN app. 6 PM tip off or once the court is ready after the Women's laugher against Wagner ended. Last check that game was 92-30 with about 3 minutes left.

LET'S GOOOO!!! Buzzketball is back baby!
WatchESPN?
Please don't crap out please don't crap out please don't crap out
Wilson, NAW, Hill, Blackshear, and Robinson starting
Wilson with the first points of the season
Horne first off the bench, for Blackshear
Dear Chris Clarke, please don't destroy your knee.
KBJ drained his first 3 point attempt. Having a 5 that can do that is so huge.
Bibbs in street clothes. Blackshear's 3pt stroke looking pure.
Hill not so much.
KB with the 3
These new faces looking like vets
Court looks pretty nice, but cant see the hokie stone pattern in the border AT ALL on tv.
Am I the only one that winces every time Clarke comes to a quick stop?
Wilson "didn't get there in time"? He could have had dinner down there before the offensive player arrived.
Seems kind of sloppy to me, almost as if we are treating this as a scrimmage..
I was just thinking the same thing. ..we look a little sloppy...
It is the first game after all
Oh..i completely agree...just makes me nervous seeing these guys hang pretty close to us so far.
I love the new court and this is going to be a fun team to watch.
Their heads definitely are not in this game. This opponent was bad last year but its an experienced bunch returning that know each other while Tech is still trying to fit some pieces in. This game definitely shouldn't be this close.
Same problem as last year. Failure to close out on the top shooter from the perimeter. Without Chatman, Detroit is in a big hole but we keep giving him clean looks.
Yup, need to make life harder for 0
It appears the trend of teams having their best 3PT% game of the season against us will continue.
Yup, 1 for 1 on that so far this year...
Chatman is 6-7 while the rest of his team is 6-19. Wonder where our focus should be?
Liking Bede a lot already.
Wow. I really like how Bede plays.
So is Bede gonna take over the Seth Allen alpha-dog role? If not this year, he'll be our PG of the future.
Gotta work on fts
Free throws and defense have a lot of room for improvement. Luckily we have time to fix each.
Free throws aren't as easy of a fix as they should be. Otherwise, Greenberg's teams would have made the dance once in a while
Bede stole the ball with his face.
Pretty solid first half. 1-7 from 3 not a great stat nor is giving up 14 points on turnovers. Echoing Itrepeter, stopping/slowing down Chatman (18 points in the first half) is will go a long way to securing a W.
About as good a start as you could ask for in the second half.
The Virginia Tech Globetrotters ladies and gentlemen!
WHOA!!!
Steal, behind the back pass, alley oop off the backboard....BOOOOOM
Aww that was pretty
That was a ridiculous play. Wow. I was too busy celebrating that pass by NAW and almost missed the score... whew.
Blackshear getting shorted by the ESPN Stat guys. Right now they show him with zero points on 0 shots or free throws. I know he has at least fourteen points tonight Somehow they still have the score right so they must be assigning the stats to someone else.
Well, there's your problem.

Fuckin right doggie...
Tyrie Jackson has some major ups. Nice rebounds down low (6 so far) and a nice blocked shot out of bounds.
I'm pretty sure he'd #TeaBagPaulus
Queue the "Flying Pig" and "when pigs fly" nicknames and headlines for Jackson
sleepwalk to a 32 point win
not often VT has been able to do that against anyone
curious to hear your rationale on how we "slepwalk" in this one? Pretty dominant from start to finish.
You could tell they were just a little off from the start and are very, very clearly in early season form. Sleepwalk probably wasn't the best choice of words... more like pretty rusty.
But once again, you win by 32 and who cares.
We had that sloppy stretch that Detroit made a big run after being down 10 to take the lead, but as you say, more so rust/Detroit coming out to play against the big boys.
So fast paced, I love it.
NAW with 24 points in his first game! Hype thrusters activated!
I have to say, the dark seats give Cassell a completely different look, and I think its a big improvement. The wood seats just gave the arena a bit of a tired feel, which seems to be lessened with these new ones.
We scored over 100 in a game and then you have UVA only up 29-20 at halftime.
33 points from Blackshear and Horne
47 points from Freshmen
almost 7 scorers in double figures
BOOM!
Oh look, WVU is getting thumped by aTm
This team in 2 years is going to be something else. I fully expect growing pains but, starting the season putting up 111 points is magical
I wonder what we will score against
Citadel with them pushing the tempo faster.VMI
The Citadel will be a good preview of that
Whoops. Got his previous coaching spot confused with the current.
One senior military school is roughly the same as another, so no worries.
And a freshman scores 24 in his first collegiate game.
Are there any garbage time fan favorites to watch for this year in a blowout? Like a senior walk-on?
Edit: looks like Manager/walk-on Justin Ammerman may be the guy.
