We obviously don't need him. I hope he sorts out whatever he needs to, honestly.
But if you're not mentally ready to play for this team then leave. Sorry but that's my mentality.
Dude, let's not try to be harsh on the kid. Playing football at an ACC level (especially Tech) takes a lot of commitment and toughness. I don't know the circumstances, but let's not bash the man until we find out what's going on. And besides, since when don't we need a guy who can start offensively...
Agreed, +1. I feel bad for anyone that gets to the point where they feel they have to leave, for whatever reason. That means they will miss out on the rest of the best years of their life in the greatest place on earth.
Except for Marcus Vick. He should be on a restraining order to stay at least 5 hour drive from Blacksburg at all times.
MV5 hurt my feelings.
2005 could have been our year...
You're right. I said that in the heat of the moment after much drinking while watching the game.
Let me appologize, I didn't mean to sound harsh.
I hope that wheaver is going on with this kid gets figured out and I wish him nothing but the best. But the point I was trying to make is that we have guys that can step up and not make this hurt to much. I don't want anyone to leave this team, but it's nice to know we have guys that can step in and peform.
I understood the spirit of what you meant. Wording was just a little off. Point taken though and agreed. +1 for being a gentleman and for being correct
Bourbon: It'll get after ya!
Skipper, I am glad you apologized for the stupid comment you made earlier with out knowing facts. The truth is that Duan Perez-Means mentallity is just as strong as anyones on the team. The kid bust his behind for four years, so don't tell me who or what this kid is if you have not had the opportunity to know him. Secondly in spite of what the coaches may have you believe D.P.M didnot leave soley for personal reasons. Here is wisdom donot believe everything you hear and read. You should know that they control the media and will tell you what they want you to know, and it is not always the truth.
He was my suite mate. As far as I have known him a stand up nice guy.
So what other reasons contributed? Disciplinary?
From a football standpoint I agree with you, we don't actually need him. Kalvin Cline has shown that he is a reliable tight end.
I am interested to know why he left the team though. When I hear personal issues and haven't heard about any kind of legal trouble I usually think there is some sort of family issue.
Odd, very odd.
The majority of us would make any sacrifice to play ball at Tech. At the same time, the majority of 18-23 year olds do experience some form of personal issues that change their dreams. Good luck DPM with whatever life brings you after football.
So who would be backing up CK? McCray? Dakota Jackson?
And Redman.
Don't you mean, 'The Calc'?
EDIT: Redman's twitter page for those confused https://twitter.com/TheCalc_33
Redman seems to be next guy up. McCray looks like an afterthought now but it just looks like Redman has passed his by. Excited for Malleck to come back next year.
I can suit up, what's the play coach? Exum has my number, but I can patch on an 8 in front of my 1 if needed.
Here's a guy who was used to being "the Man" in high school but struggled at D-End and then TE, so of course he's disappointed. He gave us his best and I wish him the best in return.
I'm perfectly fine with Cline. I think he's going to be a stud for us in his time here. One year of high school football and he's a serviceable TE on a major college football team.
My only concern about Cline is that we're going to have to hear stupid comments about his name for 3.5 more years.
yep...however I did like Reece Davis's comment that it was a "fashionable 1st down play"
Yeah we're going to be hearing this for a while. It's ok, I laugh every time.
I like it, we haven't had a really good funny name in some time. Now we can say things like, "Who's your Dadi!" and make jokes about men's underwear.
It's about as annoying as every telecast or short play the announcers obligitory line "with a quarterback that's 6'6 260..." Literally at least 5 times a game. I've also noticed lately his weight fluctuates anywhere between 240-265 for whoever is announcing haha.
We have a game we play during all the games we watch on TV. its the LT3 game. every time an announcer says logans name, the last person to yell out the phrase "how tall is he and how much does he weigh" has to finish their drink.
You've given me an idea. My friends joke that he's "an impressive physical specimen" because announcers can't get enough of that either. We'll have to use this in conjunction with announcers talking about him. Thank you!
used to be the case whenever jarrett boykin made a nice catch. "he's got gigantic hands and busts out of XXXL gloves"
Awwwww, man! I miss Boykin and his enormous hands
One of my friends was an equipment manager intern like 2 years ago and got a pair of Boykin's gloves. They're huge.
Drink!
And we all know what they say about big hands...
BIG GLOVES!!!!
Just what I was thinking!
Dude's last name is a girl's first name. Poor guy had no chance.
Let's hope he sorts it out and returns a wrecking ball a la Corey Marshall. Even when Malleck returns, DPM could still be good for us.
I wish at least the guy would have finished out the season and not quit during the middle. Look at all the injuries we have had at the position (we still have a lot of bodies there though). I don't know the details about his personal issues but best of luck to him and I thank him for his service.
depth is a major concern now.
It is for this year, but next year we get Malleck back and I think Loeffler is drooling at the thought of a 2 TE set with Malleck and Cline. I think we will be ok. Worst case #SamRogersToTE
Seems like it is every year somewhere on this team...
Remember the good old days when we were all like , "We have too many tight ends!"
"Well, let's take the best 2 or 3 and make them play o-line," said Stinespring.
"Brilliant!" chorused the rest of the offensive coaches.
Maybe it's time for Logan to move back to tight end?
I hope you typed that in the Sarcastica font....
I did. We need one of those on this site for those hard to tell times.
Good luck to the kid. Now...
Next man up!
I have been told from an inside source, that Perez-Means left the team because he was upset that Cline was getting the ball more than him. Makes sense if a freshman is getting the ball more than you as a starting junior but quitting isn't the best way to go about it.
You have to get open before you can have passes thrown in your direction - Cline has been able to do that much more consistently than DPM.
Good luck to DPM - I wish him well.
Completely agree. I think after we lost Ryan, DPM got the nod based on age/experience in the system but after not producing, I fully support Cline moving up and he has done very little to sway that thought. Also, from what I hear, Cline is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet...
I'm not a particularly big fan of rumors of dirty laundry being aired outside the locker room but...
#ClineforBrotherInLaw
I disagree with you, D.P.M has been open consistantly and Thomas never looked his way and for catching the ball D.P.M was the best catching T.E on the team and they know this.
Ummm...I don't know about that one. Even if it was true, you gotta be open to have the ball thrown to you. Being in triple coverage sometimes results in the ball coming your way as well.
Cline's 10 catches so far this season say otherwise
Yeah, I think it figures that when the new offensive staff came in, everyone would be getting a fresh look. We were bound to suffer some attrition. The younger kids don't have to adjust to a new staff any more than any freshmen would have to. The old guys have a much harder time. Too bad, though, I thought he was working his way into the action. Cline should be great after a few seasons of this.
It's not Loeffler's fault, he was caught in a conspiracy:
Where's George George when you need him?
Heard a rumor from a very reliable non source that DPM was incensed that he was not moved to offensive tackle he could not take anymore of playing TE and decided instead to make it his life's mission and seek out the real reason Sam made his family drop the D from it's name!
Say what?
I know, right!
You forgot to use sarcastica font
I wish him the best of luck in his future life journeys.
I don't know what the deal is, but sometimes people just lose their love for the game. I mean he's been at tech for so many years and has never been that big of a contributor. It takes a real warrior to come to practice everyday, work his butt off, then not get many meaningful snaps. Hope he does well at whatever is next.
Who is going to block at the TE position now on running plays? Hmm..
From personal experience as a walk on in the mid-70's who had a chance to see real playing time and then let it go, I feel there could be so many variables at play here, so speculating why serves no purpose. And whatever his part in it, like me it may take him many, many years of quiet rumination before he realizes that special thing he can never retrieve.
