The Hunt for Blue October

Hello everybody! Hope everyone enjoyed the stressful and joyous Win over Georgia Tech!
As we slip into the month of October, with a 4-1 record, our 3 home game stretch is giving us the blues. and by that I mean shades of blueL: Carolina Blue, Navy Blue, and Royal Blue. We are Hunting for a VERY ATTAINABLE 3-0 record this month, but let's not count our eggs before they hatch. we did that last year against Pitt. So I'd just like to take a moment, discuss each game, covering as much as I can from Uniforms, to what scares me (as it should any Hokie Fan). So enjoy, leave comments if you want, love to hear it.

NORTH CAROLINA

Homecoming/Maroon Effect
Time: October 5, 2013
12:30 p.m. (yea i know it sucks blah blah blah)

Possible Uniforms: Perfect Time for Tech to Pull Out #AllMaroonEverything. Hell, we have maroon pants, jerseys, and helmets. Why the hell not? but we might do something stupid like orange helmet, or white jerseys, or rainbow colors, idk. just please no Hokie Bird Helmets!!!

What looks good for us:Their defense ranks #93 in the nation giving up 32.5 points again. A blowout by ECU makes their defense look on the week side. Our defense is solid. I'm looking for our D to give up 1 maybe 2 touchdowns against the air attack. after seeing Bonner get burned a few times last week, he needs to correct it to take on Renner.

What scares me: Their DEFENSE Ranks #93 in the nation! after a blow out loss to EAST CAROLINA, they will be fed bullets for breakfast, and gasoline for dinner. they will be raring to go.

The Short: After They play us, they are on a short week, playing Miami on a Thursday Night in Chapel Hill. Rough 6 days! I look for it to be another GT defensive game. Bud shows up, forces One TO too many for UNC to overcome, One score game. I would love for our O to prove me wrong.

PITTSBURGH
Time: October 12, 2013
TBD (I'm gonna guess 3:30)

Uniform Possibility: it's Home, keep it classic, Maroon Helmet, Maroon Jersey, white pants. Or keep it lucky #AllMaroon Everything.

What looks good for us: Tough One hear. Their Defense. They went to Duke and Surrendered 55 points to the devils. Yes 55 to DUKE in FOOTBALL. Hopefully Scotty Boy will have L. Tank #3 rolling with the O.

What Scares me: Their Offense. Yea we have a good D, but Savage can be, well Savage. 6 td in one game on the Road. pretty impressive. The've scored more on Duke at Duke, than we have in two trips there (09, 2011).

The Short: Pitt has an Off Week to prepare for the Bud D. After that, they play ODU. So they will only focus on us We Score at least 4 TD's (O, ST, and D combine) we hold them to just enough to win. I'm seeing a 28-24 close one.

DUKE
ORANGE EFFECT
time: October 26, 2013
TBD (Probably Noon)

Uniform Possibility:Orange Jerseys: Maroon Helmets, White Pants, A god awful site. Let's wear Orange Helmets, and Orange Jerseys. Or All Maroon it Up.

What Looks Good for Us: Anthony Boone is Out with a Broken Collar Bone, Don't be surprise if he comes back to face us for this game. a Very Cato-like player (Marshall) but after missing such a long amount of time, Conette might get the nod. Plus it's Duke

What Scares Me: It's DUKE. We always play like $&*T against Duke. Last Blowout we had against them...2010 we won 44-7. Don't say last year, we had to come from Behind to be Duke. DUKE!!!

The Short: Coming off games to Navy, and UVA, Duke will still be celebrating after a Win over UVA. Duke has had some tough games .Troy, Pitt, and Memphis. Duke will hang in with us, as they always do. I'm seeing 21-7 Game.

I'm writing about these Cautiously, We cannot Afford to Overlook ANY Opponent. I don't care who they are. VT should Focus on North Carolina for now. Then after the game, Focus on Pitt, then take the Off we and get ready for Duke. We aren't playing for a Bowl anymore, we are playing for the ACC. live long and GO HOKIES!!!

ah yes, the basketball school stretch of the schedule

I like this. Bryn Renner hasn't looked too sharp in any of their games. I understand everyone fearing them coming in all fired up after back to back losses but I don't really see Renner getting out of his funk all of a sudden against Bud's Vaunted D. Their defense was supposed to be improved from last year. I would've said that it has, in fact, improved up until this past saturday. They definitely took a few steps in the wrong direction...but we all know that defending the ECU/Marshall type of offense is no easy task. They will play better against us and we're really going to need LT3 to be on his game to get the W.

Pitt scares me just because we haven't beaten them in the last 4(5?) tries. BUT, their defense is very suspect. When there is a somewhat competent QB (basically everyone 'cept Watford) under center their secondary gets mutilated. I like our chances with the short passing game out of the spread. They'll try to shut down our running game so we'll have to take the underneath passes all day long. Their offense managed a WHOPPING 14 points on UVag's unbeatable defense....nuff said.

Duke is Duke. They'll play us tough but Beamer knows they will. We'll be prepared for them this time, especially with a bye week. I'm not worried about Duke simply for the reason that Beamer KNOWS not to let our team get complacent and take them lightly. We don't have more talent than a lot of the teams in the ACC, but we do have more talent than Duke.

Lets paint the month Maroon!

Go Hokies!

Turkey leg for the Watford jab and hopes of an #allmarooneverything stretch of games

Have you factored in the weather for the UNC game? Might be raining.

rain might hold off until Sunday...that would be nice.

no one said it had to rain in Bburg the same day it rains on hooville.

Hey, perfect chance to extend our home OT streak AND improve our rain record.

O I'm there!!!

I like the UNC stat. I'm not worried about our defense going against a top offense, we've done that and done well. If we play a strong D (giggity), we could be in trouble. But the fact that these defenses are weak is good for our team as a whole.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

I could see varying levels of all maroon, like a similar combination to the GT game except with the white helmets, for most games and then for the Miami game they'd breakout the All Maroon Everything for a statement similar to the Hokiestone helmets.

Also, out of all the games this month, it just seems that Pitt has the biggest potential to be a trap game. We know we can win, as seen in the GT game, but if all else holds as expected with UNC, the confidence that comes from finally starting to roll as a team can come back and bite us.

While I would agree, this team needs to treat every game like it is a trap game and they're the underdog.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

This, exactly. There are no cake walks on the schedule remaining. We aren't good enough to treat anything like an easy game.

Thanks HJ for the writeup, your insight into the upcoming opponents is only exceeded by your Hokie fashion sense...maroon does looks good on every part of the uniform. Warthog is absolutely correct, VT better take every upcoming opponent very seriously since we have a miniscule margin for error with a slowly developing offense, a snakebitten field goal kicker, and not much help on special teams other than Hughes' strong leg. Go Hokies, beat all the blueboys!

I think our defense is solid enough to win all of these games. Pitt should still be in our memories and won't be a trap game, but going into Duke we might sneak into the rankings and be feeling cocky.

I'd be really happy to see us wear maroon up top, white pants for all three games and try to get our brand identity back. Our regular jerseys actually look really good right now but we never see them. I only want #allmarooneverything for a big game (so basically any game against a team south of North Carolina).

And sorry to bust your balls here, as I did enjoy the write-up, but please fix your spelling. The random capitalization is pretty bad but "week, hear, site"? Yikes.

Leg for you

We (UNC 2011 Alum here) play Miami 12 days after playing y'all in Blacksburg. This past weekend was ugly. We had breakdown in basic fundamentals on defense and struggled mightily trying to block ECUs front 7, who both fan bases know is very underrated.

After Saturday's debacle in Chapel Hill, I hope the Carolina staff and players take a good look at themselves in the mirror. I really hope Saturday was the gut check this team, which can still be very good, needed.

See y'all in BBurg.

As great as #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING is, a noon game vs a 1-3 team is not the time to bring it back. Standard home setup would suffice.

Logan 3:16

Do you remember one Thursday night a few years ago?
It's always time to bring everything we have, especially this year. No room to chance it. There's not a limited supply, so if it takes #allmarooneverything for a nooner against a 1-3 team to keep the ball rolling, go for it. (And, I'm sure we're not done wearing alternate helmets this year, so have to take the opportunity when it presents itself.)

To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.

So we'll be playing Nevernude Analrapists all October?

 He Blue Himself

Edit:
For anyone who doesn't get the references:

I think one key thing has been overlooked. VT assembled blue collar teams that fought for every second of every game and they went in with a toughness that many teams could only dream of. Because of this determination, they never ceased to get better as the year went on--they never lost to the same team twice (07 BC). In the past years this toughness has dwindled, whether it be coaching, recruiting, or players...it happened and was palpable. This year, the tenacity, toughness, determination and fight has restored. Every game we get better, every game we fight harder. Barring a setback, this team gets better and better but the 2 games I am most worried about are Miami and Pitt...maybe maryland depending on how they do.
