I don't know if these videos have gotten lost in the midst of the media or what, but I definitely felt like this was worth giving a shout out. If you're willing, watch the next 4:19 (with a pause to gather your breath halfway between) and witness real tradition.
*WARNING: The following presentation is for mature audiences only. Hashtag: Terrifying*
Firstly, as a video editor I can't think of any better use of money than for this weekly production right here. If you're on the UVA athletic board, the first thing that should come to mind to get your fans and the entire stadium pumped up before each game is to hire a 3D animator. Seriously though, the possibilities to create something so riveting can really only be achieved through a CGI Cavman and his weekly adventures.
It's almost as if the Hoos have adapted a Georgia Tech philosophy: Blow up Moe the Kangaroo because the Cavman is too quick-witted to make the cannon backfire? You can do that. Have the Cavman riding on his horse and disappear the second he runs into the camera? You can do that! Make the Cavman destroy Tony the Tiger with a sword better crafted and more powerful than a lightsaber? YOU CAN DO THAT! By the way, the Cavman luring in Tony with a toy mouse -- almost left me speechless. No one other than a UVA grad would be smart enough to think of and execute such a brilliant maneuver.
Now, do not just credit the UVA Athletic Administration. Make sure you give enormous props to the video production crew for making a vision become reality. Again, as a video editor, I know this is not an easy thing to always accomplish especially on a weekly basis. But they were able to get the crowd to cheer after the Cavman defeated Moe the Kangaroo, which I mean, that is the exact purpose of these videos right? To pump up the crowd? Well they did just that. I even think they've boosted attendance as a result. Much respect.
As a rival of UVA, I am frightened for November 30th and the inexorable defeat of the Hokie Bird. The fans as well will be intimidating and too much to handle.
If only the football team were as good as the CGI Cavman is, then we'd have a real situation on our hands.
Side Note: Without a doubt the athletic department had to pay and get permission from the city of Charlottesville to clear the streets of cars for their production. They really did think of it all!

Comments
they've been doing these for years, in '07 after 4/16 the Hokie Bird and Cav Man didn't fight they shook hands. Then the next game in Scott in '09 the Hokie Bird offered a hand shake the cave man had a thought bubble to the 2007 but decided against it and sucker punched the Hokie Bird.....I guess thats what gets UVa fans pumped up. Either way Ryan Williams decided to run all over them shortly after.

the camera work on this video is almost as good as the video itself
why would they want to do that? the whole 2007 thing is really in poor taste.
Yeah that was a little dickish. I guess they thought it reflected that everything was "back to normal"...they've could of done a better job...A for thought, D for execution.
Would you honestly expect anything less? We're talking about folks that dress up to go to the game and drink zima. Caruthers!
2 years ago, Cavman captured and cooked the Hokie Bird for Thanksgiving dinner. It was pretty funny, and I admittedly laughed. Then we won 38-0, and I laughed much harder
You know they HAD to use animation for the Cavman riding the horse, just to make sure he wouldn't fall off.
The reload rate on that cannon is unreal. More shots were fired than there were fans at UVA's spring game
Oh my...
The first video, 1:45 mark, the incredible hype video is complete, cav-man is about to ride out of the tunnel, the sold out Scott Stadium rises up in support of the hoos....Oh wait.
No one is even in the damn stadium to see these stupid things.
These would be perfect Saturday morning Nickelodeon shows. Props to you LOLUVA.
Everything about their school is so hilariously bad. It makes me so happy.
The animation/video combo in video #2 is so Space Jam...
Considering Space Jam is a badass movie, I'll give the 'Hoos respect for that.
@ 2:16 of the first video, guy lets the state flag touch the ground. How respectful.
Noticed that as well and that irritated me to the point that the video was no longer funny for how pathetically put together it was.
They're trying to be a private school, so I guess that's how much respect they really do have for the Commonwealth.
All I said to myself when I watched these two videos was literally "What the fuck am I watching?"
Was pretty much saying the same thing to myself when writing this post.
My mind is still blown as to how any recruit can see things like I saw in video 1 and think to themselves "MAN! I really want to be a part of this"
Did you notice how accurate the CavMan's pass was when he threw the ball into the mouth of the cannon!?
QB fundamentals; that's why so many recruits want to play for the 'Hoos.
BTW, I got goosebumps watching those intros (and a little gas.)
I was about to say, I felt a good shit coming on while watching these.
I feel like the Kangaroo one was straight out of Crash Bandicoot
And the tiger is a cross between Tony and something from ComiCon...
Clemons is the best they could come up with???? Ugh.
These are the worst things I have ever seen. I would be embarrassed if I had worked on these.
One of the local Krogers has a cardboard cutout of CGI Cavman as a display (I think near the soda isle). When you see it up close, it looks like the Hokie bird has landed a UFC-worthy kick to the side of Cavman's head.....there's this loopy expression that has that "What-was-the-license-number-of-that-truck?" look. Either that or he's recently fallen off the horse again. Definitely funny!
The crowd seems very confused on when to cheer. (for the few that were present)
You really can't blame them...they get so few opportunities to practice.
On a serious note, does anyone think Ball State beats UVA this Saturday?
Opening line is 5-5.5. Could be a possibility, especially with the offense struggling to move the ball....
Against W&M they had Cavman battle a giant animated Native American. Thanks to the NCAA we can't use two feathers in our logos but other schools can make bad caricatures and it's okay.
I'm glad you said Tony the Tiger because that was my exact thought when I saw it on the screen. These were fairly comical and I can't really believe I watched either of them.
On the first video, you can definitely tell its fake because they have UVA players scoring touchdowns after the cav man skit.
I was just impressed by the number of fans that were there to witness the team run out of the tunnel. It was almost more than the number of fans that they had at their spring game. Almost...
I think this shows pretty clearly how far behind our A.V. guys are in this area. They really need to step up their game.
Wait-they actually got game?
If UVA ever wants to be taken seriously as a football program they will stop with this dinky and childish animations. Until then, they are the laughing stock of the Nation.
LOLOUVA taken seriously...two polar concepts for them.
I have a sneaking suspicion that UVA employs Al Groh in their A/V department.
These videos are the most UVA thing ever, I love them. They are not very sportsmanlike in my opinion. The home team should at least be respectful of the visiting team, and use the crowd as the intimidation factor (sound familiar?) Especially against VMI, where there really is no possibility of losing. It's just trashy and classless, and ironic that it comes from a school who thinks its classier than everyone else.
Also, the best thing that has ever been displayed on that scoreboard is the image in my profile picture.
They really should just let Billdozer handle their video production. They would literally be less of an embarrassment to the school than these, despite the fact they would be overtly mocking their football program.
I told Bill this video is his best work.

As a UVA fan I'm trying to get pumped watching this video, but it starts with BEATOREGON IN BIG BOLD LETTERS how am I suppose to take that seriously I mean lets not be ridiculous how about LETSHAVEAWINNINGRECORD or BEATALLFCSOPPENENTS
I am guessing they didn't watch the whole thing...or they did and being that they are a UVA fan they didn't realize it was making fun of them because they don't know what real football looks like.
Obviously, they suffer from WADS....Wahoo Attention Deficit Syndrome. This is also why many LOLUVA fans leave games early.
I've got a source in the UVA marketing office (i.e. I hit myself in the head with a brick and my wife writes down my babblings) and I know how they will tempt their fans into the stadium.
Three words: "Punch and pie."
brie and zima
I couldn't help but think at the end of the first video, "What a cordial affair was had in Charlottesville that day, by the several dozen fans in attendance."
*see also CADman
Hate LOLUVA
So they use the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme music. Just like ECU whose mascot is actually a pirate.
CFB takes bigger and better turds than the sh*t these douchequeifs are putting out. LOLOUVA
This...every one of these are why I love this f*king site! Turkey legs for everybody!
3 minutes of my life that I will never get back
You had to have SOME idea when you pressed play....jk
Mstrawther or Billdozer -
Can you please touch up the GT highlight of Ky Fuller so that he Blurs through the A gap, then Hadouken punches Vad Lee in the groin, causing the fumble, then taps his shoulder pads to pump himself up to superhuman proportions compared to the other players? Thanks.
The animation of the claws and arms of the Tiger when it roars is hilarious.
If they wanted to make fun of the cracked-out Clemson Tiger, I would have just left it alone. UVA even sucks at mascot mocking.
