There's nothing more equal parts devilish and hilarious than a head coach tasking linemen to do un-linemen things for the benefit of the team. My high school coach often nixed conditioning on Wednesday should an o-lineman field a punt. Pressure and non-coordinated participants led to many a muff and 100-yard sprints. Although Tim Settle is among the best big-body practice return men.
Justin Fuente put both DL Tim Settle (6-3, 335) and OL Braxton Pfaff (6-5, 308) up to the challenge of kicking field goals to prevent running. Hokies should hope Tech never has to depend on either of them to do so in a game.

I love how Tim takes side steps like a normal kicker, then blasts it with the front of his toe like it's the 1950's.
Google Lou Groza!
Pfaff put a good strike on it, just hooked it. I hope this is as bad as our version of Wide Right and Wide Left get.
Fuente's reaction to Pfaf's kick is priceless.
We're developing a secret weapon, the other teams won't be prepared for
Forget the field goals for Tim settle let him do kickoff or punt returns.!
Great to see that they keep it light doing things like this. I loved that video at the end of practice last year when Tim fielded a punt and the whole team went nuts. Good stuff.
EDIT: Tim's made me cringe because it looked exactly like the trajectory when I find the hosel on a 3-Iron. Ewww.
And the walk on kicks it through!

He is a bit of a ringer since he kicked, punted and did assorted other jobs in high school.
Probably why he was last. The coaches wanted a little of that running and conditioning in.
Pete would die if he couldn't put an emoji in a tweet jesus christ.
Some of those shanks had me reminiscing on Cody Journell circa 2013.
Better than me, at least they had the distance.
College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta has a set up where you can try to kick an extra point. I stretched first and still nearly hurt myself barely having the height but about a foot left. Little kids were banging it through though. Definitely more technique than muscle required, at least from that range.
I drilled an extra point there last year, I couldn't believe it. It was a legitimately good kick
I missed mine low. I think I kicked with my toe too much.
I'm really disappointed with how Settle has not panned out as the special teams standout that we all expected when he signed.
Yeah, who needs 5 star recruits?
What do you mean? He can catch punts and kickoffs as well as block field goals. 3/4 is excellent.
Is it just me or does the headline of this thread seem a little off?
Linemen attempting to kick field goals?
Linemen attempt to kick field goals?
I'm sure either of those would work.
Just read it how this Direct TV guy speaks and you will be fine. One of my favorites
i love it
This is fun but nothing tops linemen returning kicks or running with the ball in general. The most glorious play in football is a fat guy touchdown
fat guy touchdowns are so last year...prepare for fat guy field goals
I remember D-lineman Trace Armstrong kicking an XP for the Bears in the late 80's or early 90's (it's fuzzy). Their regular K (Kevin Butler) got hurt and the punter didn't know how to placekick at all. The equipment folks brought Armstrong's special kicking shoe wherever the team went just in case, and for the XP they trotted him out. He got it off clean, and it looked like it would have been good from 35 or so. Not much more at all.
Ndamukong Suh attempted XPs agaisnt the Jets one year when he was with the Lions

I bet my little brother, a high school soccer player, that he couldn't make 5 extra points in a row. He proceeded to make all 5 and then drill consecutive field goals from the 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40. I was stunned. He's 5'7" and weighs like 140.
I toe bashed in an extra point, but it was an ugly Wakefield-worthy knuckle ball.
Soccer players often mess around by kicking field goals and then get recruited to do it on their high school teams and then go on to do it in college.
Source: My cousin grew up playing soccer, was asked to kick in high school, then was a kicker in college, then kicked in a few NFL combines.
I played soccer for over a decade then rugby for another.
You get quite good with all that practice but, it's the timing that screws you up.
There was a guy playing for a rugby club outside of Baltimore that could regularly kick from 10 meters past midfield in game conditions. Made it very tough to win against them.
What was the difference between the 5 extra points and the 20 yard field goal?
duh...3 - 1 = 2 points
Clever but he said from THE 20 not a 20 yd field goal.
Oh man, can you fix the cringe-inducing grammar of the article's title? Pretty please? (edit: another poster mentioned it 2 days ago...so really, please)
...still waiting...
