Fuente says Nijman won't play. #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) December 26, 2017
Is anyone optimistic about this game at all? I'm not and this doesn't help.

WTF?
Dammit! Does anyone know what is wrong with him?
To me this is worse than Cam being out.
This is looking like a blowout.
welp, that sucks..... silver lining... that $50 parlay bet on OSU is looking that much better
But how does this impact the pass our defense will be given
/s
Did he even play in the Virginia game? I thought I remember him being hurt.
No, he didn't play in the Virginia game. He's been out since he got injured during the Duke game IIRC (which took place on 10/28!).
And the defense only held them to zero points.
Don't give them a pass on this!
Medical Redshirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /s
Nijman has been out since the Miami game, so this should come as no surprise. It's also a contributor to why our O-line play and offensive output has been somewhat diminished during the last month of the season.
This ^ I feel like chicken Little is running around here somewhere. We are not chickens... We Are Hokies!!!!!!!! We are Virginia Tech. Let's bring that lunch pail mentality and sock em in the mouth with our best effort!
Yeah, I knew he has been out but I was hoping he would be back with a month off. This is 2 months out from the Miami game so it must have been a pretty significant injury.
:(
Optimistic may be a stretch, but I am excited about the game. I am not ready to throw in towel, and think we have a better chance to win than the odds makers give us, close to 50/50. I am excited we get a quality opponent, in a match-up people care about. I am confident Bud will have a plan, and that we have the athletes to execute. I think our D is better than any they have played this year, even down a pair of safeties. I am excited to see what CornFu can do with time to prepare. I am excited to see who is ready to step up on the Offense. I am irritated at the Bandwagon VT "fans" who are afraid to go up against the big guy with a chip on their shoulder. Let's punch them in the mouth, give them our best shot, and walk away proud to be Hokies even if they do get lucky and beat us.
The point spread has been ranging between 4 and 6 pts (so roughly a 1 in 3 chance of winning), but many VT "fans" act like it's a 17 point spread or something.
I think this might be the most optimistic post you have ever made. Even though it is still hidden in a "going against the crowd" argument.
Once again, that triple option is looking better all the time.
ETA: We're gonna win.
He's been out for a while though
We're playing a Big12 defense, we'll be fine.
Any news on Jackson recovery?
So what exactly is wrong with him, and why haven't the crack beat reporters been able to find out anything?
Fuente's a ninja!
Because students have a right to medical privacy.
Not to be too much of a smart ass, but actually everyone has a right to medical privacy. Not just students.
For a famous athlete, however, there is a lot of public interest in knowing why someone is missing games. It's a fair question and a reporter covering the team should be asking it. If the coach refuses to answer, then it is what it is.
Fuente has called reporters out for repeatedly asking questions on topics he doesn't discuss. It's probably a respect thing at this point. We are two years in, Fuente runs a quiet ship, I wouldn't expect it to change at this point.
That's an ACC thing, not a Fuente thing. Beamer used to give full medical reports then all of the sudden he was Bellichick regarding injuries due to ACC policy- the league wants to control that info.
There is no reason we cannot win this game. VT possesses the best defense OkS has faced. Our young receivers have had a season to mature. James Clark and other nicked up players are healthy now. Sorry to see that Nijman is out but he has been out for 5 games. Our O line played well against a pretty good Wahoo defense. McClease is going to have a breakout game. Special teams...not even close....we will pick up points there. Fuente and Bud gives us coaching advantage. If we lose, it will be due to mistakes and not because of superior talent on the other side.
So....one less tight end?
