Seriously. We get it, HD/matron giraffe/Neck isn't good and it doesn't need to be all over the tracker. Bitter clearly does a better job so why don't we discuss his articles instead of beating a dead giraffe and bashing on HD every other post.

I'm a bit confused. She posted a positive article on the Virginia Tech defense and you get all up in arms?
I am all for criticizing ESPN and their fake bloggy journalism, but the argument has to have merit. This post does not meet that criteria. For me, the issue has always been the troll-like comments she makes - and to be fair, she does it to a lot of teams.
Anyway, the point is HD+VT does not always end up as a grease fire.
Actually I think she did a pretty good job on that article. She actually researched it and made legitimate arguments. I'm all for making fun of her, but I think she was pretty good in this article.

This HD thing was funny for a while, but now it's just annoying. Kind of like the girl who posts a picture on facebook saying she's ugly for everyone to say she's pretty and validate herself.

I'm just going to say this. Calling HD "Mama Giraffe" or "the neck" is condescending, demeaning and sexist. It's really not funny. I'm glad some of you are getting a kick out it, but seriously, why? What's the point of critiquing a female journalist based on her look? Would you do the same with a male journalist? Would you comment that a male journalist with a bald head looks like a turtle? Or maybe one with a long nose that looks like a bird? Probably not, because we don't judge men by their looks.

I will not get into a debate with you over this. While everyone is saying "do not go there to read anything she writes," well, the same goes for these threads. The thread title typically tells you if it is about her, so skip it. (Just like you wouldn't click on a link that says it's NSFW if you are at work, or maybe even at home.) You know what happens when anyone posts about it (either way)? It moves to the top. Its easy to ignore and bypass....just like when you go to the ESPN site, you have the ability to skip the MLB or NBA coverage, or even her posts, if you desire.
As far as being sexist against her because she is a woman. Well, I said it before, and I'll state it one more time. Incompetence is incompetence, no matter her gender. This is her job, and just because HD is a woman doesn't give her a free pass to do a crappy job. You understand that she is writing about FOOTBALL!!!!! As far as the nicknames go, whatever. If I said that Yertle the Turtle was having a great year, you now who I'm talking about. Mush mouth is trbl and hard to watch at halftimes, you know who I mean. Nick names do not stop at only females.
Most of her posts are filled with bias, poorly written, flip flop from week to week, and this is what the "World wide leader in sports" is giving us as fans as professional journalism. That's not good. Sorry if some seem to take it upon themselves to point out the downfalls or mistakes that are presented by her on a professional page where she is paid to do so. I know in my professional field if I or one of my peers were to perform (poorly) in a similar manner in our job, we would be all over the paper, tv news, blogs, etc. I wouldn't be protected from the firing squad. Neither should she.
I do agree that we don't need to link to her posts. We all know where to find it if we so decide to read them. However, the "stick you head in the sand and don't read it at all" approach is not going to change anything. I highly doubt that ESPN cares either way good or bad if we are discussing her, her posts, her insights, her bias, her absence of posting, her well-written article posted yesterday. To believe so is fooling yourself. However, if you don't like what she is writing, your thoughts need to be posted directly to ESPN or commented on her posts. That will potentially stoke change. Not discussing it here.

First, I agree the meme I made was inappropriate (which I had said when I posted it) but it was not directed at anyone. I have no idea the who the GT player is in that picture. If he was a woman, the joke would be sexist. If he was asian, the joke would be racist.
My point is this, males (including myself) always first judge a woman by her physical attributes before they can open their mouth. This is a problem when we use these judgements to verbally abuse the woman.
Now, I ask you, try this at your job. (If you're an undergrad, then try this at the first job you get.) Find a woman you disagree with and start calling her an animal based on physical appearance. Now, let's take this a step further and depict this woman in photoshop picture with her head as this animal. Now, let's take this even further. Let's now suggest on days in which the two of you are in agreement, that it is likely due to a relief of sexual frustration. So, now we're going to pass around pictures of two animals copulating, suggesting that one of the animals is the woman in question. Just try that at your work. See what the response is.

And, I'll be the first to apologize to women (and men) who were offended by that meme (in fact, I indirectly apologized when I first posted it). However, my meme was never an attack directed at someone. I also never suggested a woman is an animal.

But if you're gonna be the sexism police then you need to know that comments don't need to be directed at anyone for it to be offensive. If I started yelling out racial slurs not directed at anyone they are still offensive.
The point is that you are done with HD posts and think they have gotten out of hand. By now, I am too and I know I was a participant and an instigator. My statement (especially the sexism) was overstated. And, the reason I overstated was to nip this whole HD-Giraffe thing in the butt because it was getting WAY out of hand. While the HD thing is probably offensive to some people (especially women who don't want to be characterized by looks, but by their works), my ultimate goal was to actually let this theme die (which, was probably a failed attempt on my part).

EDIT: I like Lou Holtz a lot. Not his interactions with May. And he's a Notre Homer. I can only take him in small doses. But I like him anyway. And this is an actual quote, one he uses often.
I've talked to a guy on Comcast SportsNet DC (one of their main anchors, not gonna say who but he does a lot of Redskins stuff). He was telling me that May and Holtz actually hate each other, you can kinda tell that when you watch them too. He also said that Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless are handed sheets with some stats on them before their show and told to argue with those stats. Half the time they don't actually know what they're talking about.
I thought it was common knowledge that May and Holtz hated one another? What other reason would ESPN have to pit them against one another in pointless debates with Rece Davis as the judge making the final verdict?
Ha. They might not like each other but it seems like May knows that Holtz is a heavyweight. He's a legend (who may be past his prime), has a national championship as a coach, has been in college football forever, and has a large, loyal fan base that will always consider him a saint.
Rece Davis is the consummate pro and is probably the only guy with the temperament to moderate those discussions.
Of all the OSU guys in sports media, Herbie is the best. He really isn't biased towards Ohio State, takes his journalistic integrity very seriously, is very knowledgeable about the sport and the communities, and does his research. In fact, he used to live in Ohio but had to move to Tennessee because the OSU crowd didn't like that he's not a homer and harassed him about it.
Side note: For as much as many of us might not like Michigan, I can handle Michigan fans. Maybe a little pompous, but most of the Michigan fans are very intelligent people and a good discussion. OSU fans are generally the WVU/LSU of the Big2Little10. Not an elite public academic institution like Michigan, generally entitled and classless, and constantly view the world through buckeye-colored glasses.
Cosign, and many tOSU fans don't like him because of this.
I think he's gotten better about it and do agree that he researches and makes intelligent arguments. A couple years ago though you couldn't get through a broadcast with him in the booth without hearing about OSU.

Thats a shame. The only Michigan fans I've ever interacted with were in NO at the sugar bowl and they were pretty cool. No trash talking VT or anything, just friendly banter. All the alcohol on bourbon st. probably helped though...
I think it's a little different when you're in their "territory," so to speak. I've met some really great UM fans, the majority of which actually went to Michigan. The ones who are referred to as the "WalMart Wolverines" are called such for a reason, and they outnumber the good ones. But, every fan base has the obnoxious sidewalk alumni, I just see more of the Michigan and Michigan State flavor here.
I'm in Central Michigan also and I never have a problem with the U of M fans and I wear Virginia Tech stuff all the time. The U of M and MSU thing around my area gets kind of ugly though..

My son plays football in Ithaca (7th grade) and let me give Ithaca HS team a shout out, they currently are tied for the longest active winning streak in the country. Me too. Michigan fans I met at the sugar bowl were all assholes. The other michigan fans I know (except one) know nothing about football. Told me VT didn't deserve a sugarbowl bid, but UM did.
Ah, true. My interactions are mostly in grad school, so I guess my pool of candidates is biased to, well, pretty smart people anyway. WalMart wolverines is funny, but I get more WalMart buckeyes, which makes sense because they're a lot closer. Plus, some of my opinion is founded on second hand stories from all the PSU folks.

Gotta say that if you were harassed, you were in the minority. Nothing but respect from the ones I encountered. Granted that was after the game. Before the game, everybody talks shit. Especially when drunk on Bourbon Street. Hell, I nearly chest bumped James Gayle on Bourbon Street while intoxicated. Talk about a close call. After the game, most admitted to backing into the game and that #ITWASACATCH.

I seem to remember wanting to slap one of our players in the NFL. I can't remember who it was, but it was a couple of years ago when they announced the starting lineup of whatever team it was. Due to more than a few starters on the team being from Ohio State, it's like they had a running gag where everyone said "The University of (Insert College Here)". It came to our guy, I wish I could remember better, but he said "THE University of Virginia...Tech". I so wanted to reach into the TV and slap him hard. Just like every time I hear our announcer at the game say it.

I must be odd man out here....I enjoy Herbie for the most part...he has his moments, sure, but overall more positive than negative. Gameday crew overall I really enjoy. I get a kick out of Holtz, but I can see how he could get on someone's nerves (my wife falls amongst that number). I even enjoy Mark May. Some of the other talent at the mothership get on my nerves (this includes his Mussness). As for the internet staff, ESPN has relegated most of them to the interwebs for a reason.
Agreed. Most of them are great, Trevor Matich being one of my recent favorites. I can't stand Brent anymore. He's classic, of course, but it seems like his best days are behind him. The only other person on that network I can't stand is Robert James. Very much an OSU homer, never provides any depth in his analysis. David Pollack needs to be less of a bro, but I could see him improving, and Jesse Palmer is decent and sticks to the game ("3rd and California" stipulated). He and Palmer work better together this year because last year it was clear Palmer had NO respect for Pollack.
