Starting the day at WDW and then going to the ACCCG last year with my oldest son (just under four y.o. at the time)... great memories.
Savor this last one folks. Another long hard offseason awaits.
Our hopes are on the offense to move the ball. The D will be is predictably stout, but if left on the field for 45 min (Due to the O doing 3 and outs, repeatedly), they will run out of gas.
I'm hoping JJ had his confidence built back up and takes control and reruns to the early season form. GO HOKIES!

Flying solo into Orlando this afternoon and have some questions for those that know the Orlando area. Where should I hang out before the game, and how should I get there from the airport? Is there a better way to get downtown than cab/uber/lyft?
Any VTCC 07 ±1 alums that I might know gonna be there?
Orlando has no major transportation set up. Uber is best bet downtown. Wall Street is a good spot for bars and happenings.

My best advice is don't eat around the Convention Center.
The key will be getting 7 instead of 3 and vice versa. OSU is going to move the ball, make them earn it in the redzone. And when we are there, need the maximize our points.
IIRC we had a really good redzone defense this past season, and I agree, it will be critical to hold them to 3 when they get down there.
At 3pm today I am coming down with the itis. Prescribed cure is a final does of Hokie Football for 2017.
I wanna see some bend but don't break a la what we did to WVU on the defensive side of the ball. Of course the Rudolph-Washington deep ball connection is so good they'll probably get at least one that way.

Flew in to Orlando this morning from family vacation in Ithaca, NY. Hoping for better results than the last few bowl games I went to. The 2006 Chick-fil-A (Georgia), 2010 Orange (Stanford) and 2011 Sugar (Michigan) Bowls. I was at the 2014 Military Bowl (Cincinnati) but that didn't count because I live in Baltimore, MD.

I think the only way we get the win today is if our D comes out stout as hell and shuts down Rudolph and their passing game. He's not as mobile as some of the other QBs we've faced, so we got to get after him hard, and play it close and smart in the secondary. I think if we can avoid blown coverages, and play the ball, not the man, we'll be good.
Offensively, I'm not expecting us to be world-beaters, but that said, if we can get 21-28 points from the offense and avoid alot of three-and-outs, plus a touchdown either via the D or special teams, we can win this game.
My internet at the office has been down since 10am. Productivity has gone to zero.

Agreed. Playing calling has been solid. Execution better but still leaves a lot to be desired. OSU averages 26 points in the first half. I'd say the D's accountability level is about 0%. As has been said - can't fumble on the 1 and expect to win.
That's the problem though. The 1 or 2 they'd like to have back are the difference in this game right now. The play calling has been better than in recent games but I'd also say that's due simply to the players executing in the run

Can anyone explain how Pfaff's low block was different than what GT does? Is it because he blocked high initially and then went low (where GT just goes straight for the knees)?
He didn't contact the defender until he was low. You can hit above the knee and slide down but the defender actually jumped back as he dived for him so he hit lower than he planned.
I think there is a limit on how far down the field you can do it too. He did it a good 5 yards down the field too.
and unfortunately, it had zero bearing on the play, so it was a complete waste all around.

I've watched plenty of games this crew has called in the B1G this year, and they would be flagging OSU left and right for holding if this were league play.

Honestly, this reminds me of the UGA or FSU bowls. We are hanging in, but the other guys are fully capable of pulling away at the drop of a hat. We gotta be perfect this second half: long drives that end in 7 points
I am very impressed with the game plan and execution so far. Considering who we have out on offense, for us to be in a 6 Point game at half is excellent. Biggest error was the fumbled exchange at the goal line. This should be a 14-13 game. But if you would have told me before the game we would hold Oklahoma St. to 2 field goals and a td in the first half, I would have called you crazy.
Bud Foster should never be discounted. We should have more points against a Big 12 defense, though. As you said, the fumble hurts that. Can't afford anymore backbreakers like that.

My worry for the second half is that OSU tightens up its run defense b/c they deem JJ as not a threat to hurt them through the air. I think JJ is still a bit off throwing the ball, for whatever reason. Those two lollipop passes he threw could have been picked off and taken to the house. He needs to step in to his passes and throw with some conviction. Trust his receivers. I think the talent is there in Kumah, Patterson, Savoy, etal, he just needs to let them make the play.
As for the line, good half overall, but damnit, will they please keep Osterloh on the side line and play Plantin and the other youngins. Osterloh getting beat killed one drive already, it was completely a situation where he just isn't athletic enough. Nothing at all against the kid personally, but no amount of coaching or adjustments can fix a lack of talent, and Osterloh is just not talented enough, and we unfortunately have several weeks of film to support that. And so does OSU.
It didn't help JJ's confidence in his receivers that Savoy dropped the first pass of the game.
If we are thinking about the same drop, that dropped pass was on another lollipop throw. If he threw that pass with some velocity, better chance that it gets caught. Less chance for the D to recover, and less time for Savoy to "think" about the catch.

Wow. It's a good thing we're running the ball well because josh Jackson has been absolute trash in this game. His mechanics are awful and he has missed at least 2 wide open receivers down the field. Grimsley was streaking open on a post down the field and josh checked it down to Patterson instead and then right before the half throws it 10 yards past Murphy who had 5 yards between him and his defender.
I cant wait until Hooker wins the job next year. There is no way he can't be a better passer, and we all know he has better mobility. This offense should be much better next year

It was nice to see Gundy and Fuente hamming it up before the game. There are some things I'm not a big fan of OK State for (their program isn't relevant because they have fan support and a solid program; they simply have a friendly billionaire), but the Gatorade mishap at the end was just Gundy trying to stay dry.

And I would be remiss if I didn't give a hats off to Mike Gundy and OSU. Class act, post game comments said all there was to say about the respect between these two programs. Major respect to him just like Beamer and Fuente to stay at OSU when bigger programs were beating down the door. Really think they are a great peer and hats off to them for what I thought was a hell of a game.

The game was lost when we fumbled on 1st and goal from the one inch line. We all knew it too. Could've gone up 14-3 on a demoralizing 9 minute drive where the OSU D was sucking wind and clinging to a tiny thread of hope. Pretty sure that fumble was on the RB (who was the RB on that play btw, he should be benched until October for the principle). Regardless, as much I like JJ and his intelligence, he's not our future. He's way too slow. Fuente's offense depends on a legit dual threat. Give it to Hooker for two years. Let him go pro, then give it to QP as a RS sophomore.

Welp, here's to the offseason. Not an overly happy way to finish the season, but are we not where nearly everyone outside of HOAT had us? The boys met expectations. Some games they exceded them and more, some...not great!
In the end, I'm relatively pleased. Not crazy happy, but, you know...optimistic. If we can get key guys to return (byebye Tremaine, go make that money, brother) I think we stand a shot to get closer to the program we want to be.
College football, for my money, is this best sport on the planet. There's a few games left in the season, enjoy them. Bring on 2018 and hopefully see some of yall in Louisville for the basketball game and Tallehassee (no idea if that's correct spelling) to open next season!

It's a bowl game but I hate feeling like it was one we should have won... we started soo hot then that fumble on the half yard line swung the whole half and maybe the game...the red zone execution killed us...

Now is the time to say it: 9-4 in a rebuilding year is fantastic. This team is only going up from here. We get Farley back next year, have a good QB competition, and our WR and QB have a year of experience.
Proud of these guys. They didn't quit. Missing our top receiver. Our top running back quit. Starting LT, FS, DE out with injuries. And the officiating... Seriously, figure it out, geniuses. I hate seeing a game influenced by the zebras.
There is a lot of room for improvement, but that's what you get with youth. Liked what I saw from McClease. Grimsley played much better tonight. Floyd balled. The DL played hard and made some plays. It's damn hard to make plays when you're getting held all night.
Frustrating seeing some of those misses. Mason Rudolph overthrew too many open receivers. That guy sucks./s
Mason Rudolph is a helluva QB. The fact that our TEAM kept them to 30 points is a indication that we don't suck. A lot of ifs and buts, but we have nothing to hang our heads on tonight.
We were apparently giving their receivers a large cushion or they ran great routes because we were nowhere near them on the short routes. They had a field day. and Rudolph had a good touch.
It's like the best Christmas gift ever on the sabre. At least Tech didn't lose to a triple option team. By 42. And not a P5 team
This season reminds me a bit of 1998. A few close losses that we should have won, a good team that just needed an elite qb. Of course 1999 turned out okay.

Turnovers killed every opportunity for us to win this game. This stings so badly. My heart says I would've preferred a blowout loss, my head says this was a step in the right direction towards getting the talent we need to compete on the national level. We'll see next year whether my heart or head was right.
It was a step in the right direction, JJ ran with desire to get upfield. The JJ touchdown run that got overturned, WAS a touchdown. The ball did break the goal line plain. We still need an O-line that plays the entire game...this will come...hopefully next yr.
My hopes are Edmonds and Settle return.
