OT: Possible idea: recruiting "insider" forum

I'd be happy to have an open forum with any questions towards recruiting and our current perspective on the directions things are going as a program. Would love to have guys like BAG and Skutt join me in this as well. I would be maybe to make it a weekly thing.

Figured this would be a better way to compile all of your questions into one thread rather than have to scroll through multiple tying to find a question that someone's is asking me.

Thoughts?

Pfft... You obviously got this idea from behind a paywall.

Serious question: how much does your sauce tell you what can or cannot be said? Or do they withhold the info that cannot be passed?

translation: how much more do you know and how many hardees coupons do we need to give you to provide us the real meat and potatoes!? How about we use a code? something ubiquitous to TKP.... Like... When a recruit is named and you know they have committed but not announced you reply with an emma gif. Boom. Done. Glad we're all in agreement on this.

Let's test it out...

Wow, really hoping Dax picks VT.

(psst... It's your turn)

I really have one friend that is very very close to the program whom I get 70%-80% of my info from, and a couple others that were much more involved during the Beamer years but still have their ears to the ground. I used to attend basically everyone home game and my friends would introduce my to some of the recruits, but now with a new wife and kid on the way, I only get to a game or two a year. I still meet some of the recruits when I'm there but not quite as many.

Generally they'll tell me whether or not they want a certain piece of information "public" or not. The guy that in good friends with us not a coach so he usually has to wait to get a text from one of the coaches or Guerry or someone like that. If they don't say or I don't ask if it can go public, I'll always err on the side of caution as the last thing I want to do is ruin the biggest moment so far of a young man's life.

As far as Dax goes, he's a great kid and part of the reason he's struggling to make a decision is because he's truely formed great bonds with each staff and he doesn't want to upset anyone. With that said, he basically said everything but "I'm committing" during his visit during the UNC game. I get the feeling that he sent out similar vibes to UNC and Stanford and that's why there's so much mixed info out there.

Oh gosh, the "not wanting to upset anyone" part sounds too familiar. Seems to be what most players that had us leading and then switch end up saying.

Yeah. That has been a death knell in recent years.

I think that's a great idea and I would definitely participate. As fernleyhokie brought up I'm actually curious as to how you know how much you can share. I don't pretend to have a network of sauces but I know somebody that works behind the scenes, but will be moving on soon to grad school, and I'm not sure what I can share of the occasional info I get. For example, I knew about Dream coming back but didn't think that should be shared.

Dream? Hakeem has eligibility, or Dusty Rhodes is the second coming?

Khadim "Dream" Sy. Trust me, if I knew that Dusty was coming here to post up ACC bigs I would've risked it all to let this community know.

Ha! You just told Ffrench to TKP harder! Love it! (even with the /s). Take your leg!

My Oak Hill connection was very much in the dark on Sy's plans. To the point he was told directly by Khadim that he had no plans for leaving. And then he left.
This whole thing has been a bit of a mystery at times.

All that said, I get pretty decent info on Oak Hill. When I can share, I will. I don't think that makes me an insider.

I for one would appreciate a thread like this (insert off-topic comment or .gif in recruiting thread). I don't know if there would be enough info weekly but I certainly would like more info on how we are gonna close in this class and the recruiting/program trajectory from those who have #sauces closest to the program.

Only if the forum is behind the TKPlayers club "paywall" so that I too can go to the regular recruiting forum only knowing things from behind a "paywall" /s

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

A Paywallception, I like it

Obviously you are kidding and would be against what Joe envisioned for the site, but it's by his courtesy that this isn't the case. We would hit that 1000 member goal real quick if we put insider info behind a paywall.

As long as we can keep the regular recruiting forum all gifs, discussions about Chipotle/Moe's and long arguments between two people that nobody else cares about.

Don't forget the detailed and nuanced discussion about how we would all be so lucky to have a Stanford degree

Not to mention in depth dialogue on the potential impacts of having Condoleezza Rice meet recruits on their visit.

What the about the best way to implement a star system to rate CB's, or the best way to integrate quantity and quality analyses of various GIF's?

I think this is a great idea. I sometimes like to read the nonsense of the recruiting threads but it can be frustrating when you are looking for actual news. If we could separate the actual recruiting news and the off topic (albeit entertaining at times) nonsense into two threads, it would be a welcome development

you fondly imagine that just because someone creates a specific thread, it won't get inundated by completely unrelated crap. You must be new here. Welcome to TKP, we're glad you found us!

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

If ya ain't hijacking 'crootin threads, ya ain't TKP'ing.

you dont want my inside information.. Even though I know more than I should, I have been instructed to keep it all watered down and respect the people who get paid to find our what I know.

Ways of how I release news:
1) Gif response in agreement or vague excitement
2) Give a vague sentence of something about to happen
3) Give updates on how an 18 year old may be thinking in a joking but telling way
4) Get blunt about it when I know its about to be common fact in less then 5 mins.
5) Sneaky tidbits about some strong info I know

As long as the Community Guidelines are followed, I encourage everyone to start threads however they see fit. I love the OT nature of TKP, and zaniness and unpredictability of the discussions that follow. However, I would love for more members of the community to start threads (share articles, opinions, well-researched thoughts, etc...) and discussions, especially when it pertains to newsworthy or interesting topics.

The idea of "The Key Players Club" as a separate actual board has crossed my mind many times before. My theory: there are TKPers who might provide more behind-the-scenes information to a limited (not public) audience if there was a platform do so. There are drawbacks to the approach too.

And because why the heck not.

And finally, join TKPC and help support TKP.

Just my take here gathered from what I've observed lately and from talking to some of my member friends on here: I think more people with great information that don't typically start threads would, but then they get discouraged when they see someone else start a thread well within the Community Guidelines and get jumped all over like they can't have an opinion. This is especially true if its anything close to being critical of a coach, player, etc. My $0.02.

Something ubiquitous... Like an emma gif

I see what you did here Joe. *wink*

Does this gif mean what I think it means re: Dax? Wink, wink......TKP code......

I don't see how a separate thread by the "insiders" won't just devolve the same way as current recruiting threads. Also "insiders" work better as anonymous users versus something that appears as being backed by the site itself.

If it's an open forum to everyone, is it "insider" info at that point?
