The former Georgia commit picked Virginia Tech over a rash of recent Power Five offers including: Tennessee, Virginia, Nebraska, Pitt, and Oregon.
"I've been waiting," Becton told Matthew Hatfield in May about his Tech offer. "It's in state, nice and close to home, my mom can make it, my family can make to the games, nice and easy."
Becton was named to the VHSL Class 6 all-state first team. As a senior, the Ocean Lakes HS product accumulated 53 tackles, 13 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles (one for a TD) via 757Teamz. The 247Sports Composite rates Becton as a 3-star prospect.

Congrats Jaevon, hope you come and tear it up. Welcome home!
My favorite part about these recruiting threads

He probably meant West Virginia.
From the film it looks like we have found someone to run the QB power on fourth and goal form the 2!
3rd and Logan? No no.
4TH AND JAEVON
I just wish this staff was a little better at closing on these recruits instead of putting so much emphasis on evaluating talent.
No one has ever questioned the staffs ability to get a mid 3 star recruit
I respectfully disagree. Like mentioned in previous recruiting threads, Becton is a project DE that is hopefully going to be a stud but definitely wasn't at the top of the board for most of the 2018 cycle. Tech staff are excellent talent evaluators and offer many studs early before the bluebloods but now have to work on closing on those top targets instead of picking someone up down the target board after missing on the top targets.
but he had a rash of other power 5 offers including UGA, TENN, OREGON, so it would appear that they did close on a stud that the bluebloods went after? project or not... there are few people who can come in and aren't some sort of project. im happy with the get.
Are those offers commitable?
I think its safe to say the recent ones like Tennessee, Nebraska, Pittsburgh are legit
The UGA offer doesn't hold water... he originally committed there but then couldn't when they ran out of room.
Happy to see Burden close out another recruit!
I'm curious where he will line up for us. 247 lists him as a WDE, which are the DE's that most frequently end up playing DE for us. He's also already 248lb which is in the 'convert to DT' territory for a lot of DL that come to Tech. But he is 6'4" so 248 isn't *that* heavy for a DL. Hopefully he's got that 'bendability' and quick step needed to play DE for us, would be great having someone Mihota's size holding the edge and getting pressure.
I may not see it, but it doesn't look like he's got the pass-rush to be a DE for us; he's big and quick and has a twitch about us, but not quick enough for DE. I think he'd be good for us at DT.
His film showed him making some plays at WR as well. Hopefully that shows he has the speed/agility to stick at DE.
So happy! Welcome aboard!!!

How's that Lechtenberg promotion looking now? ;)

I like the offer list. I like the measurables. His tape is fairly standard "I can't glean anything from this because it's a man among boys" stuff. Seems rated kind of low, considering the size and accolades combined with his offer list.
Basically what I'm trying to say is "who's got my in-depth scouting report?"
I agree. To me it looked like no-one tried to block him on many of the plays. I can't tell if he ran over them, fended them off, is so quick they just could not get to him, or if they were afraid to try. It looked good to me, and apparently experts from our and other teams thought so, but I don't even know what I'm looking for or at in the film. I did not see much "bend" but did not see where someone strong enough to bend him got their hands on him. Seemed to fend off blockers, but were any of them of a level where that would project to college?
I'm new here just wanted to comment. Go Hokies!
Nice picture
Welcome to TKP!
Wasn't expecting this, so now I'm very pleased.
A 250lb DE with good footwork is hard to come by. I see tons of potential here sense the speed, size and swag are already in place. It may take some development to be a playing with leverage at the right pad level to stop the run, but he's already identifying first threat on option plays and spilling kick out blocks.
He will be a difference maker setting the edge and rushing the passer on third down.
load 'em up and lets see who can play!
