Blue-chip LB Dax Hollifield will decide between Stanford, North Carolina, Clemson, and the Hokies.
Wednesday at 11:00 am in Malcom Brown Auditorium at Shelby High School, I will be committing and signing! Come out and show support! 🌲🐑🦃🐅? pic.twitter.com/7QtCXBXfOw— Dax Hollifield (@ChiefDax_25) February 4, 2018

I always like when you create these posts Joe. Despite the heartbreak in the past, you usually only post these type of things when you are pretty sure they are gonna be a Hokie. That's what my mind wants me to believe at least.
Unfortunately, I don't have the foggiest idea which way he's leaning. His recruitment has been all over the map.
Hokie
CBs are predicting 100% chance he picks a team.
I like our chances then.
Yeah, we have one of those.
CBs are predicting 100% chance he picks a team.
I heard foggy is supposed to have a good season next year, should be preseason top 25.
My body is ready
Gimme some of dat Dax
Either way, looks like I'm drinking on Wednesday evening.
Liquid Lunch
Carolina bound
Wonder where the downvote police are here.
(FWIW I'm not saying OP is right or wrong by his comment)
Isn't he from NC...therefore we he cannot be Carolina "bound"? /s
Well technically Sassy, Chance, and Shadow returned back to the house they were in, but they were Homeward Bound.
nice
All I know is Clemson will be in last place !

If anyone orders Merlot, I am leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!
speaking of Mediocre movies, this is one of my favorites. I always get a chuckle of the one guy going and trying to bang everything in wine country due his pending marriage and Paul Giamatti just trying to enjoy wine and have a good time. Plus I'm a big Paul Giamatti fan.
Which one is Dax Hollifield again?
The one that looks like Ben Affleck.
Scrappy. Really good football IQ. Great route runner. Dax reminds me of Danny Coale.
Just shot coffee out of my nose...thanks!
Come on, Dax. How about some excellent news for Hokies on signing day!
Everything has been coming up Millhouse for me lately, ergo, he's totally declaring to Tech
Its science
I had a dream last night that this place melted down after he committed to Stanford.
That's one you can keep to yourself.
So it is prophesized
Honestly I would understand Stanford I would NOT understand Clemson or UNC.
Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if he chose UNC. His girlfriend and a lot of his friends will be going there.
Edit: Punctuation
You know his girlfriend?
Punctuation will get after ya. I had to read that 3 times. :)
Well, now I know why I go to an engineering school
Stanford is lowest for me on the upset if he goes there scale. If Dax goes to Stanford it likely never affects us, if he goes to UNC we will play him every year, and if he goes to Clemson we will have lost a recruit that once burned a piece of wood that said Clemson on it before we played them in the ACCCG, AND we will play against him probably.
That's a nightmare, not a dream.
When tf did Clemson get in the mix or have I been way behind in all of this?
in the last month or so.
I think that perfectly encapsulates how undecided and wishy-washy these kids are. Not too long he was burning Clemsongear, now they are in his top4. Honestly, nothing these kids say should be taken seriously, good or bad. Just gotta wait and see.
Just imagine Dabo instead of Diddy.
Clemson will always be in the mix until Clemsoning becomes a thing again. I long for that day.
I back away from the computer when I read these blue chip recruiting threads. My brain tells me not to get my hopes up.
But my heart says..."Dax will be a Hokie, REFRESH! REFRESH! REFRESH!"
I actually have no idea where he is going. Of all the big time recruits that were are/were in it for the last few cycles, he is the first where, 48 hours from NSD, I do not know where he's going.
I wonder if he knows we got a LB going in the first round of the draft. We could use the help.
He may but I never really thought this carried much weight, especially because it just this year. Our track record outside of Edmunds for linebackers isn't great at all. Now if we were constantly putting LB's into the draft as high round picks, then I would say this would mean more.
#LBU
I said this in the other recruiting thread, but Evan Watkins talked about how this feels to him a lot like Devon Hunters recruitment in that he's always kinda felt like a Hokie even though all these other schools are coming after him. Also said we're recruiting him harder than he's seen us recruit anybody recently. I feel the same way like he has kinda been for us the whole time but has flirted with other schools so much it's impossible to say anything definitive.
Did Dax visit VT this past weekend?
He didn't make it.
I believe VT told him the weather was going to be dangerous to travel in and he ended up not making the trip.
We really need this.
When Shibest was in Charlotte, he said that Dax has been on campus somewhere north of 20+ times during his recruitment and always seems to be onboard. My hope is that he's taking the Devin Hunter approach and just really enjoying his recruitment.
Fingers crossed.
It's probably closer to 40 since the end of his sophomore year.
I don't necessarily follow recruiting with the same fervor that you fellas do, but from what I've read in the past from you guys think he's going to Stanford.
Well depends who you ask.
Clemson says Clemson and VT
UNC says UNC and VT
VT thinks VT and UNC
Back when it was us and USC jr. there was talk he didn't wanna go to UNC or Clemson
Stanford is farther away than people think he wants to go and for a bit it was VT and Stanford
Only 1 team has been constantly there
Clear as day he picks Florida State, IMO. /s
Lol I would explode
Foster to Dax probably "come play for me and we will cause a lot of havoc, or go to UNC and watch us whip their ass"
I don't think anyone will know one way or the other until Wednesday at 11. We'll probably all hear rumblings that this school is eliminated or that school is trending but I would be pretty surprised if crystal balls started shifting dramatically like they normally do. Like most other people, I don't know much that you all don't know, but I have a strong feeling that he'll end up in Blacksburg. Out of all the schools, VT is the only one that checks all of his boxes and also has no major flaws that would work against them:
UNC - Very comfortable at UNC, closest to home, and the depth chart is wide open, but he talks very openly about his desire and necessity to play for a winning program. UNC does not offer that. But, his little brother loves the UNC staff and his girlfriend will likely end up there.
Stanford - Great football program, extremely unique academic situation, and open path to the playing field. However, his family would have to board two 6-hour flights just to see him play in one football game. I know first hand how tough this distance can be on a family and I think Dax is realizing that now that he is actually sitting down and making a decision.
Clemson - Would be tough to find a program that in a more stable, winning position. Grew up a Clemson fan so he's pretty familiar and comfortable there and it is close to home. However, they slow played him to the point of offering a greyshirt opportunity, and his bond with the staff doesn't run nearly as deeply as it does with the VT and UNC staffs. Also have recruited MLB at a high level, so it will be tough for him to break into the rotation early on. One big rumor that is going around is that Papa Hollifield is pissed off that his recruitment has gone that way that it has with Clemson. I really struggle seeing Dax making a decision that his family isn't 100% on board with.
VT - Longest, strongest relationship with Bud out of any coach in the country. Has been steady and unwavering in his recruitment and have maintained for several years that he is THE top player on their board for this cycle. Once Clemson initially halted their pursuit around the beginning of his Junior year, Dax was a loud and proud VT supporter. Good academics. Winning program that most out there would agree is on the rise. Wide open competition at both LB spots. Every member of his family is very fond of VT and they can easily see him play at every home game.
Based on Dax's stated criteria in a program (comfort level, winner, path to playing time, good academics, and location) only one school makes sense: VT. Whether or not he picks the Hokies remains to be seen, but if he stays true to himself and what he has said is important to him, he will end up in Blacksburg where he belongs.
I know first hand how tough this distance can be on a family and I think Dax is realizing that now that he is actually sitting down and making a decision.
This is a great point. Watkins mentioned essentially the same thing other day, when talking about JJB, that the distance of these schools to a players hometown doesn't fully set in until they're about to make their decision. Taking a trip across the country as a junior to be wined and dined is a lot different than spending 4+ years of your life in that same place. I think as these decisions get closer the distance becomes a bigger factor for Dax and JJB.
Jesus I hope we can get to the point someday where we can offer greyshirts to blue chip recruits.
Clemson was taking a small class this year so they almost certainly wouldn't have even floated that in a more regular year.
They can also see him at away games too and its not terrible travel time. #NC2VT
I keep seeing that one of the main reasons UNC is largely still in this thing is because his girlfriend will likely be attending there.
Dax, if you read TKP let me offer you some sage advice from someone who's made the mistake before.
Never make a life decision based on a woman to whom you are NOT married.
Dylan Rivers, if you're reading this, you were really smart to follow the girl.
{Did I do that right?}
LOL. Obviously, I'm biased and want Dax at VT, but that's damn good advice regardless of where he winds up.
I'm glad Rivers is here, but a teenage girl isn't worth a major life decision and I hope and choose to believe he chose VT because it offered him the best chance to develop and display his skills on a national level.
I hope so too.
HEAR THAT TRAVON?????
That wasn't the only reason. Rivers committed to PSU when Beamer was coaching. He developed a relationship with Fuente and ended up changing his mind.
SECONDED!
I always cringe when I see a post about a date/time for a decision that is two or more days in the future, because I have the sinking feeling that that crazy hokie guy is going to show up, and that he's going to blow it for us one of these days.
Recruit: "Who the fuck are you?"
Crazy Hokie guy: "I'm just a crazy Hokie fan. Come home to VT!"
Recruit: "Nah, bro."
At what point does the athletic department step in and ask that guy to chill out?
What would it take to get someone like that to chill out? Would AD/Coaches even be able to manage it? Is he that crazed? I am uncomfortable just watching the videos where he shows up.
I dunno, but I feel like introducing that guy to my cousin, SandwichFullOKnuckles.
If his presence=commitment bring it on!!
Can always plan the meeting for post-commitment.
Interesting article on Dax from a SC newspaper. Below are some of the main snippets from the article.
Not the greatest reading material there.
It can still be saved... someone get Fuente's fighter jet gassed up and send that thing to NC.
THAT IS THE MOST AWESOME PIC EVER POSTED ON THIS SITE!
Now we just need one of it inverted, keeping up foreign relations with a Clemson Mig. You know, giving it the bird.
the Hokie bird
...Welp
I disagree. While a source I spoke to today believes it's down to Clemson-VT, I'm feeling pretty good for the good guys.
That's refreshing to hear as the above material definitely had me losing a bit of confidence.
Evan Watkins said on Andy Bitter's podcast the other day he expects it to be between Virginia Tech and UNC with a long shot at Stanford. He didn't really think Clemson was seriously in the mix.
Welp...there goes my optimism.

Here's an article that might make you feel better. No reason to worry about what any article says. Not even his father is sure what his intentions are. We'll all know in a day or so.

Optimism is back. Please everyone stop with the articles. I can't handle the emotional roller coaster

Yeah. No way son chooses Clemson after dad says that. Would be a little awkward being around Venables.
Not to mention how much longer is Venerables going to be at Clemson? He has been mentioned a couple times this offseason for other head whistle jobs. Bud will be going the distance at VT.
I thought Bud was going to A&M?
Only once he runs out of free passes at VT.
Just kali-ma my shit up
I think he tipped his hand here. He didn't say "where I am comfortable" or "what feels the best" he used our recruiting pitch. Coming to Tech.
Fucking A..I'm so sure Clemson is going to come in and snag our top recruit this late. Fitting. I miss the days where Brendan Hill was blowing up their whole offense and they couldn't beat us..sigh. Seems like 50 years ago. If he signs there this late, after they didn't have a spot for him and our coaches have been kissing his ass for two years- well Fuck Clemson.. they are paying players. No doubt in my mind- so maddening. I'm still shocked Kendall Fuller didn't sign there at the last hour.
I'm going to need you to take a few steps back towards me. So far, everything I've heard has aligned with what has transpired - no reason to believe different at this point.
Dabo is the one of the best, if not the best, recruiter in the country. If he was telling recruits this year that Urban Meyer wouldn't be at Ohio State much longer, you can only imagine what he was telling recruits about Beamer way back in 2009 when he was hired. Whenever Fuente's name came up this year, as a rumor, I am sure he was using that against us too.
His video praising Beamer when he retired, and going to Syracuse's locker room to congratulate them after beating them this year...those were not genuine acts at all...those were recruiting tactics, trying to boost his good-guy persona.
If it is not clear, I despise clemson, and don't trust dabo at all.
That being said, I don't think they are breaking any rules. Dabo is just an incredible (if dishonest) salesman, and their school puts football above everything else, instead of treating all sports equally.
Hopefully Fuente can get into a position where he just sits back, waits and takes two of Clemson's top recruits late in the process. That would be awesome. It really would. In the meantime, our offense implodes the moment Josh Nijman gets hurt. the two programs are light years apart- especially in recruiting.
Real talk though, I'm convinced they paid to get their 2011 recruiting class.
Ya'll realize he very easily could be talking about Tech, given how he has visited so much he practically lives on campus, right?
He could also be talking about UNC as that's his home state. I hope THIS IS HOME though
Hopefully this will be me walking into the fisheries management meeting tomorrow...

Take that UNC!

I read where Dax will call each coach this evening and tell them his decision. Anyone live near enough to Coach Foster at Clayton Lake to hear whooping or sobbing??
Did Bud move?
Well, he's not being offered enough to live near campus...
Fire up the flight tracker, folks s/
Bud is bigger than any one recruit, I believe, and as for sobbing? Nope, can't even imagine that. Claytor Lake is pretty narrow where Bud lives, however, and there might be the set up for a decent echo if he decides to whoop, but I can really just see him setting his mouth, giving a low fist pump, and then moving on to his next project. Yes we really want Dax, and we can really use him, but regardless of where he goes, we'll be moving on to the next shiny toy on the list immediately. Recruiting never really stops, does it?
Live feed on Dax anywhere?
https://livestream.com/accounts/11707307/events/4097786
I really hate these ceremonies.
Well, OK!
Edit: Low fist pump, popped a brew.
My man with the full ride to Princeton not getting the recognition he deserves.
Man only Dax would do a video to Meek Milly, bet them Philly fans enjoying this video. Come on please Dax, that track has been my soundtrack the last week.
These kids getting to miss class for this are the real winners here.
How 'bout that head fake with the VT logo first?
I thought that was the commitment at first
I seen that VT and my heart pounded. Then I realized he was listing all his top choices. Took like 2 minutes for my heart to stop beating. This recruiting stuff ain't good for my health.
Fully buttoned up coat. The ol' shirt trick.
