Yezzir.
Here is hoping for some good news. When Tennessee was winning national championships, they pilfered a ton of talent from North Carolina. Clemson's run has been fed by North Carolina talent. VT must make inroads and Dax as the final piece of a terrific class from the Tar Heel state would be a huge deal.
Even if this means what we think it means... this is kind of suboptimal in the long term.

Coaches spoiling recruiting decisions isn't a good look. I'm hoping it's just a hype post.
Who did he spoil? Do you know?
Then not spoiled, just hype.
Please, let's not pretend this isn't what coaches tweet every time someone commits.
seriously what are you going on about? who cares if they tweet this when someone commits. you don't know who it is. so what are they spoiling?
and for the love of all that is Hokie in this case it's National Signing Day. of course they're going to tweet this on Signing Day.
We only had one guys decided from NC so the NC2VT kind of gave it away. I just don't think it's a good look.
We've been saying NC2VT all season... This was just moments before signing, Dax was already at his announcement to have his moment . No big deal
No, he wasn't at his announcement. Dax hit the stage at 11 and I think Wiles tweeted at 10:45.
Personally, I thought it was a little bit weird to tweet it before the kid gets to make his announcement.
Dear molehill. How would you like to be upgraded?
I don't know. I could bitch about fake internet points?
EDIT: let me clarify I'm not accusing alum of doing that.
Wait, are you saying these turkey legs aren't redeemable?
I have some disappointing news for you.
I don't know man...Arnie did a pretty damn good job of redeeming his for a spot in TKP purgatory.
That's some dam truth right there.
I thought he just went to the Penalty Box? Dude's spent more time in the sin bin than Tie Domi.
Arnie couldn't help himself
great minds!
couldn't find a gif of him spraying the water bottle at the fan prior to him coming thru the glass.
probably one of the funniest things I've seen watching a game.
Guy got his ass kicked by Domi as well, but he went down in Philly lore forever.
As someone who lived there for almost 15 years, I can attest that this sentence is utterly, quintessentially Philly
Bitcoin is tanking. Turkey Legs might be the future.
Wait...can we
pay recruitsdonate to the athletic dept in Turkey Legs?Bitches be talking about turkey legs but all I have is a green arrow. Must be damn Microsoft products.
Amidst all of this back-and-forth, oh and amidst the awesome news of Dax signing; how do we know that Dax didn't say Wiles could post something vague to get the fanbase salivating?
We make a lot of comments on this page when we don't have all of the information, and then judge individuals based upon that limited knowledge. Perfect example is with Grant this morning, LA Hokie has sources, and you better believe I'm thankful for them. However, we aren't privy to all the information, no matter how much we think we are. #Sauces are one thing, being in the room with Coach Zohn is another when he got that phone call (which is unverified information as well). This day should be about celebrating not bashing our coaches or 17/18 year olds who are making one of the hardest decisions of their lifetime thus far. I'm 36 and I had the hardest time making a decision to move my family cross country to Utah for a job. These kids are half my age, and moving cross country or even a couple of states away carries a lot of ramifications for these guys. Ease back guys/gals! Take a deep breath, and #StartJumping
Good point, you're right. That's what I was thinking earlier when we were going in on Grant.
Lets break down your concern. You feel this is stealing the thunder from the recruit. Ok. I am going to allay your concern with a quick question and answer. Why does a recruit televise their selection?
For publicity. Smart recruits build their brand early in HS, which is themselves. Ideally recruits like Dax go on to have a stellar College career during which time he becomes a fan favorite and ideally a name recognized beyond the home crowd. Because if he can manage to get to the NFL that's going to pay back large buckets full of green dividends. And so at the start of that trajectory, any and all publicity that draws attention to their brand is a good thing.
Real world example. I am in Japan at the moment. It's 1:30 am and I am still working. I honestly wasn't going to watch the live stream of Dax's recruitment. Wiles tweet changed that because I thought "well, I guess I'll tune in to see it happen". It was my first time every seeing or hearing Dax other than images and comments to reporters. i liked that he kept it short and sweet. I liked that he seemed to have a really supportive group around him. I like that he was plain spoken and genuinely excited to play for VT.
Would have missed all that without Wiles tweet. And while my lone view doesn't seem to add up to much, this game ultimately is about being popular on tv. If you play well and are liked or a unique character you get paid more. Plain and simple. Now I'm going to have this impression of him every time I watch him play.
That's a fair point. I'm not saying it's going to be a deal breaker but some of these kids commit way far in advance (there were some kids in this class that have been committed for months) and they trust the coaches with that decision. I just know I've heard of a few recruits getting pissed over this sort of thing (not necessarily coaches but word getting out, etc).
I'm honestly not trying to make a huge deal out of this because you're right, it's not. I'm just saying some kids might not like it. We've seen time and time again that these kids make weird decisions and have weird thought processes.
Its the VT staff's version of white smoke at the Vatican
Nothing is being spoiled other than "we have good news". It invites everyone to tune in to see what it is. In fact, it helps increase the hype of the kids who are declaring because it gets more eyeballs on them.
Wiles's tweet is the only reason I'm watching the live stream.
I never knew about the white smoke at the Vatican and I was just there last summer. I'm an awful tourist/reader/researcher. Thanks for the info on that; I learned something today. Pretty cool how they do that!

Come in for the recruiting news. Leave with knowledge about how the pope is elected.
That's TKP for ya
He didn't say Dax so what's the big deal
Coaches smoking that Jazz Cabbage too early in the morning.

This is awfully cryptic, what do you think it means?

Yihooo!!! All is well in the Hokie Nation!! Cheers!!❤️🦃🏈

WOOT
1) Prefer if this wouldn't happen
2) The only people that analyze to this extent are...us.
If you, like me, don't follow twitter and stay off online on signing day (hooves don't work on mobile), then it is water through the trough.
