Our 2nd Battalion cadets had an awesome time at the game. Thank you, @HokiesMBB! https://t.co/hQdh8HPrty— VT Corps of Cadets (@VTCorpsofCadets) February 8, 2018
I saw this Tweet earlier and it got me thinking. Why is there not a set section for the Corps at Buzzketball games? I know Cassell has more of a capacity constraint than Lane, but they could at least have a rotating schedule (by battalion or class). Personally I think filling in the seats in front of the new media spots would be perfect. Student sections at both ends and guaranteed butts standing near seats for games where that end of the court can look a little empty. Curious as to why this isn't a thing already.
Thoughts?

I think filling the seats with anything VT related is a good thing. Looks good to recruits. Plus when you increase noise and atmosphere you've got a possible Thunderdome situation brewing.
I know it's not something VT can necessarily handle that easily if ticket sales indicate that a seat has been sold, but it's annoying to see 10-20 rows of empty seats behind the visitor bench. Fill it with the corp or students and put a few State Trooper's on the ground. Problem solved.
The seats behind the visitor's bench are that school's seats.
Correct. I think that's limited to first 3-5 rows.
Cadets would be almost unanimously against this. Lot of stuff to do on weeknights, and making basketball games mandatory would mess with a lot of schedules. The cadets who have time and wanna go to games already do so. And they get to do it in regular clothes. You make basketball a regular corps event, everyone would have to wear uniforms to games. No one wants to be in uniform any longer than they have to be during the week.
I figured that would be a big factor and I'll certainly take your word for it.
When I was a Highty Tighty, we were the only band on campus, therefore, expected to have a presence at men's basketball games. While I didn't really mind much, it wasn't always what I wanted to be doing. If you hold a section for the corps, then they'll have to fill it with corps people, turning a fun evening, maybe with a date, into another obligatory function for the corps to have to attend, meaning sooner or later, somebody's gonna chafe as cadets get "designated" to fill the seats.
Kinda like a big parade is a true pain in the ass, why make a basketball game one too?
Been relegated to pep band for the women's team, but it's voluntary. I did it all four years and loved it. The team sucked, so we had to make our own fun. We were basically the only people there for most games, so we got away with being pretty obnoxious. Some of the best stories I have are from pep band shenanigans. Like the time I was threatened with a technical at the ACC tourney. Or the time I informed about 500 Greensboro elementary schoolers that the Easter bunny was a lie, simply because they chose to root for Georgia Tech and were being little assholes about it.
Yes majority of cadets were against this but opening up like 20-30 seats for cadets to fill in the coliseum is a bad idea. You don't have to make it mandatory fun but having a small lot of seats for cadets volunteering to go would of been awesome when I was there. C '10
Now that is something I could get behind. I was a polisci major, and as such, had a lot more free time on weeknights than most cadets. Went to every game I could, usually via standby line.
I read this as "Corpse"
That you Anish?
Back in the 97-01 days we went to several Women's BBall games like that. I agree with the above though, too much mandatory stuff takes away from homework and personal time.
Setting aside a block of seats, 50-100 perhaps, would be great though. I think enough would want to go when their schedule allows it. Make it civvies or PT gear too, not a uniform night.
