I hope he develops into a really good defender in addition to his ability run the O.
He appears to be working hard to master the defensive spacing of sagging off his man to show the potential for help defense without leaving his man wide open. Too many of the guys have trouble with this.

Excellent coaching and preparation got us ready for both sides of the ball - we did a decent job breaking apart their D too, just have to drive into the paint further, pass faster, shoot quicker than against any other team.

Coming off one of (prob the best) defensive outing we've had all year against NCST, and it continued over into tonight. Devin Wilson's extra minutes have been massive and he's done enough on offense to make it completely worth it. (5pts from him in those mins is just enough to complement his defense and he's been doing that. Add in a 3 here or there, him being clutch at the free throw line lately, and the 50/50 plays he gets and it's been a great move by Buzz.)
Devin also has been in a lot of these situations before that other guys haven't, so when we have bad offensive stretches he will come in and start slashing to the rim when the rest of the guys are just passing around the perimeter. We need that slasher to get open looks after paint touches although he's even finished some at the rim nicely also. When JRob is the only guy in the game who can break someone down off the dribble it's much harder to do

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned is the officiating tonight. How refreshing it was to see an ACC game called with so few fouls. A faster game with less free throw attempts is so much more fun to watch. Not to mention that the 1-and-1 in OT gave us the shot at the win. I imagine it is extremely rare to see a team shooting a 1-and-1 with less than a minute left in OT.

Somehow I missed the tradition thing as well. I am not at all superstitious, but I also see no need to prove it wrong by messing with it. I felt like we were going to win for no particular reason, others felt like we were going to win if the post was changed, and we were all correct. I saw on Twitter that a few dozen students showed up to Cassell to welcome the team back after midnight. Buzz invited them all inside Hahn Hurst to take pictures with the team and posted one of their team pics with everyone as well.

These are the wins that push programs on the come up over the top. Yes, we've had some huge wins in Buzz's tenure, but was against our biggest rival on the road, a team that has the highest RPI rating since 1999, and a win that puts us from squarely on the bubble to comfortably in (for now, we still have some work to do to lock down a spot.)
I think this kind of statement win is the one we've been waiting for since Buzz took over. Hopefully, at the end of Buzz's tenure we look back at this game and say, "That was the game that showed the country we're here and we aren't going anywhere."

With as tough as our schedule is the rest of the way, we either needed to take care of business at home or beat Virginia or Duke on the road. Make no mistake, this win vaults us comfortably into the field. There aren't many teams with big statement wins over a top 10 team at home and #2 on the road. At this point we should be playing for seeding. This was a huge win. In the ACC it's brutal to win on the road, and we just won the game nobody has been able to win.
It also doesn't hurt this is going to be a weak bubble this year.

No doubt we're going to have the best win with any bubble team.
I'm expecting us to beat Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Clemson. We win those three, or any three really, and we're comfortably in. A win at Duke, which will be very tough, would put us in great position for a double bye as well in the ACC Tournament.
St. Louis has put together a decent A10 conference schedule. The loss isn't the stain it was 6 weeks ago.

According to the CBS Selection Show today (silly they're doing this already, but I guess anything to capture the Football Playoff Poll they do in the fall) Tech has vaulted itself into an 8-seed in the 2nd toughest region.
Man, if we can win out at home, including a win over Duke, we might be able to climb up into a 6 seed before the ACC Tournament. One nice thing about the rest of our schedule is that we really don't have chances to have a disastrous loss the rest of the way.

That we beat a top ranked team is great. That we beat LOLUVA is great. That we won a road game and deflated the home fans is great. That all of those things we accomplished happened in one game is superb

Before the game started it was brought up that the first 2 gamethread comments broke the good luck tradition. Myself and another Hokie changed our comments just in time but whomever brought it up is the MVP
My bad on the tradition thing, I truly wasn't aware of it, even after all this time. I'd say it won't happen again, but now I'm superstitious, so no telling.
Still, appreciate the opportunity to try to fix it. It seems to have worked.
Somehow I missed the tradition thing as well. I am not at all superstitious, but I also see no need to prove it wrong by messing with it. I felt like we were going to win for no particular reason, others felt like we were going to win if the post was changed, and we were all correct. Superstition, Fate, Karma, God, talent, heart, Buzz, take your pick(s), I'll take mine. Lets just do it again!

I saw on Twitter that a few dozen students showed up to Cassell to welcome the team back after midnight. Buzz invited them all inside Hahn Hurst to take pictures with the team and posted one of their team pics with everyone as well.
We are so lucky to have him.

These are the wins that push programs on the come up over the top. Yes, we've had some huge wins in Buzz's tenure, but was against our biggest rival on the road, a team that has the highest RPI rating since 1999, and a win that puts us from squarely on the bubble to comfortably in (for now, we still have some work to do to lock down a spot.)
I think this kind of statement win is the one we've been waiting for since Buzz took over. Hopefully, at the end of Buzz's tenure we look back at this game and say, "That was the game that showed the country we're here and we aren't going anywhere."
With as tough as our schedule is the rest of the way, we either needed to take care of business at home or beat Virginia or Duke on the road. Make no mistake, this win vaults us comfortably into the field. There aren't many teams with big statement wins over a top 10 team at home and #2 on the road. At this point we should be playing for seeding. This was a huge win. In the ACC it's brutal to win on the road, and we just won the game nobody has been able to win.
It also doesn't hurt this is going to be a weak bubble this year.
No doubt we're going to have the best win with any bubble team.
I'm expecting us to beat Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Clemson. We win those three, or any three really, and we're comfortably in. A win at Duke, which will be very tough, would put us in great position for a double bye as well in the ACC Tournament.
St. Louis has put together a decent A10 conference schedule. The loss isn't the stain it was 6 weeks ago.
According to the CBS Selection Show today (silly they're doing this already, but I guess anything to capture the Football Playoff Poll they do in the fall) Tech has vaulted itself into an 8-seed in the 2nd toughest region.
Man, if we can win out at home, including a win over Duke, we might be able to climb up into a 6 seed before the ACC Tournament. One nice thing about the rest of our schedule is that we really don't have chances to have a disastrous loss the rest of the way.
Only risky game left is Georgia Tech. Other than that, you're right. No other "bad losses" left. Doesn't mean Tech can afford to lose out.
