This bites because I definitely printed out the Cassell Guard tweet saying that they thought they were going to be #1 with the Dikembe Mutumbo GIF saying "no no no" and taped it to my coworker's office door. As soon as the new poll came out he was kind enough to drop by and let me know.

If you wanted to know how weak the NCAA field is going to be this year, just remember that UVa rose to #1 despite losing at home to an unranked team that didn't receive a single vote in either poll of that current week, nor was ranked after the loss.
This might be the weakest that college basketball has been in a very long time. Its one of those years that you're going to likely see someone in the 3-5 seed territory win it all once the March Madness chaos begins.

I just don't understand wahoo's bashing of Blacksburg. If you're school isn't a UNESCO heritage site, then its ugly? At some point can we just start calling certain UVA grads morons instead of delusional?
That's funny because how pretty the campus is actually factored into my parents letting me come to Tech. It was a much prettier campus than Syracuse and some of the others schools I visited in High School.

Lol yeah that's right. I created this account after we beat Ohio State because all my roommates passed out and I wanted to keep talking about the game. But I was drunk that night as well and just made a generic username that I later wanted to change. I knew all I had to do was email Joe and he would change it, but I figured while I was holding out on joining TKPC, I wouldn't ask him to change it. So when I got my confirmation email on Saturday night I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on the new username.
I figured my Tyrod-nodding-on-the-sideline profile picture would make it easy enough to make the connection. But maybe I should add a temporary signature for clarification purposes.
My first reaction was "huh, I wonder if this new TKPCer knows he's using the same pic as rvaHokie?" and then I saw the TKP bday on your prof and connected the dots

I work in hooville. I brought in 14 victory doughnuts in Nov. And I brought in victory bagels yesterday, just not the 61 bagels that my son said I should bring!
The rationalization borders on insane. My co-workers said "it always amuses us how much you care that you beat us. we don't care about beating you at all. we're all about academics."
I guess if i'd just lost on my home court, with Gameday in the house, in front of the nation, and also lost 14 straight so that football is no longer a "rivalry", just an annual loss, then I guess I'd rationalize too.

1. Not caring about basketball is only slightly more believable than caring about men's tennis.
2. UVA is not an Ivy League school, They give athletic scholarships, in sports others don't care about, just for athletic bragging rights. Pretending like you root for an Ivy League School does not make it one.
3. It must REALLY eat them up when we beat them in STEM competitions then. Bring pastries after the next engineering competition.

Recruits and their parents need to see what type of program we're running here. Because I think it could be a difference maker for those recruits that want to not only develop a inside game, or a 3 point stroke, but want to learn how to become real MEN. After this year's football game, I defriended someone on Facebook (call me petty) because of his asinine comments regarding Point #4, Bullet #2. It was the day after the game and I told him to follow the red ball; it's football season. He proceeded by posting a Wikipedia link to their Men's Tennis team. Yep, we're done.
I literally told the girl that brought up Alabama football during a VT/UVA rivalry basketball discussion: "Just go back to your cubicle and think about how stupid what you just said was"
Its amazing the mental gymnastics needed to get over the fact that we ruined their Gameday by winning in their house. We took their big night and made it about us. So they are #1, big f'n deal. We won.
Ask Tom Brady what he'd rather have experienced this past week, seeing the Pats ranked as the #1 team in the 2018 power rankings, or have beaten the Eagles in Minnesota.
You're thinking like a reasonable person though.
They also always say "team national championships" because some of them realize how good we are at certain individual sports (track and field, wrestling) and need their point to stand. Let's be honest, our 10 national titles in hammer and weight throw from 2005-2013 are way more badass than all of their swimming and tennis championships combined.
Not trying to rain on the parade here but we've never had an individual champion in wrestling.

To continue the theme, ESPN's bracketology had us as a 10 seed playing Michigan last week and it's been updated today with us as an 11 seed playing a 6 seed Michigan. No sense makes sense.

Honestly not that surprised. Losing at home to St. John's was a pretty bad loss for Nova.
Losing at home to the Hokies...quality loss. Operative word there being "loss". Hoos can react to that however they like, it's a true win/win for the good guys. Win in that they, you know, won. And also a win because we handed the #1 team a loss in their building to add to our tournament resume.
But I'm sure they will only credit us a victory over the #2 team and not give us credit for a #1 win
The subtlety with which the powers that be used to influence the polls is lost on the Wahoos. They aren't bright enough to realize that by attaining the #1 spot by moving up 1 spot should really be a constant reminder that they lost on their home court to the Hokies by 1.

I guess VT will just have to beat them again in the ACC tournament.
For me, they should have had to earn that number one spot back, but this does show the respect the committee has for ACC basketball.
I suppose we should pull for ACC teams to do better, since we want more of them in the NCAA tournament for more money. For VT basketball.
I have a three step goal.
