Ladies and Gentlemen of The Key Play
Predictions for every conference tournament
The Blue Devils have been rolling since Marvin Bagley got hurt, switching Grayson Allen to point guard and moving to a zone defense. With Bagley back, Duke's talent is a cut above everyone else in the league, too. If there's a sleeper in Brooklyn, it could be Virginia Tech.
And then there's a Vote for your choice between Duke, UNC, Virginia, the ACC Field and.... oh right, Virginia Tech.
You know what to do

I think we can claim it - we've beaten the other 3 teams under consideration. Amirite?
Whelp, two votes in for me and we start at 7%.
Make that 5 votes, my coworkers were forced to vote.

At least you still have a couple to walk out on?
Which would be bigger for the program at this point... an ACC Championship or a Sweet 16 appearance?
ACC Championship. I know, I know, we've never been to the S16 and it would be a big step for our program, but coming away with some legit basketball hardware by winning the ACC would be a HUGE feather in the cap of Buzzketball. It would give instant credibility to the program going forward and be a huge recruiting boost down the line.
Put it this way... NC State has made the S16 fairly regularly over the past 10-15 years. Judging from the annual meltdown around here, their fans would sell their left nut to win one ACC Tournament.
Virginia Tech made it to the Sweet Sixteen (and Elite Eight) in 1967.
I'll go Sweet 16 appearance. I just think the Sweet 16 would do more for VT's 'national' brand. I think ACC fans and recruits in ACC country already know that VT is a program on the rise. A Sweet 16 appearance (and presumably knocking off a top-4 seed on the way there) would be a great way to announce to the nation that VT is now a legit basketball program.
I'll disagree a bit there. S16 is nice, but it doesn't make that kind of announcement. If we're talking a Final Four run, I'll completely agree, but I don't think a S16 bid really has that weight. Should it? Probably, its a 68 team tournament in a sport of 300+ teams, so to be in the final 16 is a big deal.
But... This isn't just any conference tournament we're talking about, this is the ACC Tournament. Its the gold standard of basketball conference championships. You win the ACC basketball tournament, you have instant credibility across the sport, just like winning the SEC in football. There might be other conferences that might technically be tougher (BXII this year), but they just don't have the aura of the ACC.
It's all short lived. Remember how far George Mason went a few years ago? No? Yes? If yes, do you still talk about it? I don't.
I remember that their coach went to Miami and won the ACC...
Good luck getting anyone from VCU to let you forget about their run.

ACC Championship.
Nobody remembers who made the sweet 16.
And each year, there is ONLY one ACC champion, and at least 13-14 teams that advance to the Sweet 16.
Just sayin'
"at least 13-14 teams that advance to the Sweet 16"
I can't tell if you are kidding or not. But either way, it made me chuckle.
He is technically correct
Forget it. He's rolling.
Good - I'm glad the "dry" bleeds through to the interwebs.
An underdog is a hungry dog.
Buzz Williams should get Jason Kelce to give the lockerroom speech before the ACC Tournament
