FYI this will probably be a slow month Hokies. I wouldn't be surprised if the silent waited until the spring game at this point.

Recruiting threads are gonna recruit threads. You can't stop them.
0 pieces of useful information.
Maybe if you keep making this complaint in every single recruiting thread something will change.
Quiet month and silent commit likely to wait until spring game sounds like useful information to me.
Slept on it... couldn't let it go.
Wait, you actually were still thinking about a comment on this website after night's sleep? Damn, some of yall need a hobby lol.
Unfortunately I can't golf while I work.
The comment was about an hour after his. The "slept on it" part was just a little TKP humor (shout out to Pierson Booher) saying I was going to let it go, but decided not to.
But you can sleep while at work? Noice.
But yeah, I gotcha, I guess I've never really seen someone use "slept on it" metaphorically. Even Pierce's is actually after he sleeps.
I'm glad I was your first.
Haha! You're on a roll today!
Is there a better way to lose it than from Bud's luxurious moustache?
Were you two High School sweethearts?
I can solve that problem for you AXD...

Colonial Forge's Sarratt finally getting some D1 love. It would kill me to see this kid in anything but Orange and Maroon.

Our Harrisonburg boy (Marcus Robinson-Jenkins) is picking up a bit of steam, finally having a profile on 247 and receiving an offer from Navy. I expect his stock to continue to rise as he enters his senior season, although I have no idea how high it will rise. As I've mentioned, I think this kid is being overlooked a bit.

I saw on my instagram stories that Dax is going to be #4 and Marshawn Williams is sub 200lbs and has cut all of his hair off.
I thought Marshawn wasn't returning to football?
He is still involved with the program. I believe he was able to keep his scholarship without counting against numbers. He stayed on as a sort of player/coach.
Just sharing that a player whose career was cut short is still achieving personal goals and stuff. And you know, he got a haircut.
Hah! Not trying to give you a hard time, I had missed that you were going through IG stories, thought it was from the VT FB account or something.
One of these days the recruiting thread is going to have useful information and people will not be frustrated with new comments that are off topic gifs
Not on this day!
I feel like it is disrespectful to follow up a badass Aragorn gif with.......this.
Something more like this?
Not if I somehow find a way to retire before that happens. I'd probably figure out how to post a gif on here if I had the time to find ones as appropriate as yours.

Is Savion visiting this weekend? Or did he last weekend? He just tweeted a graphic of a player in tech gear with his name on it. Can't embed the tweet at the moment. If somebody could for me that would be greatly appreciated.
I couldn't get this to embed either, the embed tweet functionality on Twitter has been finicky for me lately. Lately it's just been posting the tweet text itself not the picture.
Real info...
Brandon Smith will be there on the 17th as well...
My goodness actual recruit talk on a recruiting thread the audacity

LA or BAG already said we don't have a shot with him. Hope a visit can change that but I'm not getting my hopes up at all with him.
If the coaches thought they didn't have a chance with him, they wouldn't waste resources
LOL, if all recruiting threads have become is waiting for BAG and LA to give us info then wtf is the point?
aside: i appreciate the info provided by insiders but find the weird hero-worship of random internet strangers to be, well...weird
So what do you think other "services" are? Waiting on insiders to provide information they have. It's the same as here.
since youre not actually addressing what i said:
someone posted information about a recruit visiting VT and the response was "who cares, random internet stranger says we have no chance", the point of these threads is to share info about VT recruits/targets, but if the whole point is to take two random peoples' word as gospel then lets just have them run the recruiting threads
to answer your question: other "services" are people taking the word of random internet strangers as gospel; i think it's misguided to do so on any website/internet forum
because i've noticed this: do you find people to disagree with randomly or do you have google notifications set up?
It's easy to find people to disagree with on here, it seems so many are always up in arms about recruiting threads and what information is on them, or not, where it comes from and who it comes from. Why don't people just accept the recruiting threads are what they are, read the information and either accept it or not. Nope instead it's the same people complaining about the same things every thread.
So basically...if you don't like the way things are shut up and deal with it? That seems a bit conformist to me. I don't think silencing voices of concern is appropriate. Maybe if there are consistent complaints they have merit.
First of all, I didn't say "who cares, random internet stranger says we have no chance". Just like when people cite French when talking about players and aspects of their game, I cited the resident recruiting insiders we have. Nobody is criticizing someone who cites French saying that he's just a random internet stranger. I said that they said we didn't have a chance, but I hope we can make an impact on him during the visit. I think you read wayyy too much into what I said and brought this issue up out of thin air because you have been thinking it for a while. I take everything with a grain of salt and I was just commenting on the post about his visit with what I've heard about him. Should not have been this objectionable.
I'm not saying they are our only sources, and I never said the coaches never thought we had a shot with him. You both completely misunderstood what I was saying. Coaches go after players all the time that we all know they don't really have a shot with. If we went after Trevor Lawrence and had him on an unnofficial after he was committed to Clemson would you say we had a shot at him? I'm saying our two insiders who have great info have mentioned before that he is a guy that we really don't have much of a shot with. I trust their info over thinking a visit somehow means that kid is really serious about us.
Edit: this one's better
Nothing. Please keep up the good work.
Re: March 2018 Recruiting Thread Part 1
Wouldn't it just be easier to rename this thread "March 2018 Recruiting Thread Part Whine"?
If any actual recruiting information comes in, we could start a new thread. In the mean time, this one is just for fun, right?

John Cleese from his Monty Python days.
A long December and there's reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last.
Let me preface by saying I definitely agree with you but I have to say i hear this statement every year by a lot of different people around this time.
I think he's counting crows before they hatch, to be honest.
It hurt to leg that. Counting Crows fucking sucks.
I never actually understood how they went from counting crows to selling records.
Mr Jones is a classic
Yeah, that one I have to admit is pretty good. Some good lyrics.
"We all want something beautiful, man I wish I was beautiful..."
"I want to be someone, who believes..."
Seconded. My wife won tickets on the radio to see them when we lived in Orlando. I can name the 5 or 6 CC songs that have been on the radio my entire teenage to adult life. Not a big fan but we won tickets so whatever. We watched those fuckers play for an hour and 45 minutes and we still hadn't heard a single radio hit. We gave up and left.
I saw them a few years ago with Toad the Wet Sprocket opening for them. While I was way more interested in Toad than CC, I stayed for the entire concert. Apparently they just released a new album and didn't recognize a single song outside of Mr Jones and Long December.

Anybody who's a major recruiting stalker...err tracker notice if Devyn Ford got a bump in rankings relatively recently? I don't recall him being the 70th overall recruit in 247 composite. Can't even describe how bad I want him....for the team.
I think he used to be even higher, but yea he's a beast
He's a 5* on rivals/#1 RB
He's slated to visit VT TWICE before he commits in June and we currently lead for him
Dude has a sweet recruiting story from VT.... I hope he shares it one day.
Can you share any recruiting stories from this past cycle? Maybe make a post out of it.
Yes. Please don't put it in a recruiting thread!
I would love to but some of the things they did with recruits are really personal for the players and I feel like those situations are better left up to the recruits to share. Also I really think a lot stories that I can tell are going to be very anti-climatic.
I do think you are starting to hear a great pattern of information coming out from recruits: Our Coaching Staff is getting the reputation of being honest to recruits and show a huge amounts of concern and caring about the families we are recruiting. It is being seen refreshing and very effective approach.
Recruiting 17 and 18 year olds is actually pretty boring but made to be something fascinating by fans. Most of the guys are thrilled about the process of going to a big university but are also more excited about instagram follows, twitter likes and their Snap Chat streaks.
I recall seeing somewhere that the team had him "incidentally" bump in to Mike Vick (I think at the Clemson game). Between that and the fat head at the basketball game, it sounds like Ford has had a fun recruitment.
something along those lines

It's wasn't Vick right?
He's been #70 on the 247 comp for a while. As mentioned, Rivals loves him.
247 house = #114 overall #6 RB, 93 rating (4*)
Rivals = #9 overall, #1 RB, 6.1 rating (5*)
ESPN = #157 overall, #13 RB, 82 rating (4*)
I see Watkins put in a CB for Adarious Jones to the good guys. I know he's listed as a DE on here but if I remember right it's been said that he would play DT for us.
Excellent. I got a fever and VA Beach recruits are the cure!!
Nice song, but it needs more cowbell.
the less cowbells the better.
Rivals lists him as a DT and you are correct on that's the position he will play. Would be a big get at a position of need and hope he can continue to pack on some muscle so he can contribute Day 1 if he commits!
Players we recruit listed as SDE on 247 are almost always goin to be DT in our system. Fwiw he just became listed as DT anyway.
Quinn Carroll has a top 6
That's a tough list to beat. But Vice has been crushing it
Ah yes, the coveted lower left position. This traditionally means this school will be LEFT when he reaches the LOWEST number of schools remaining. He basically committed to the good guys!
So 5 big ten teams and a acc team walked into a bar
Well Notre Dame is more ACC than Big Ten but that's where he will probably end up anyways unless we can pull off a major recruiting coup.
You can tell he's picking VT. He's looking right through PSU with his eyes on the prize! /s
ND or Minney, VT in third place.
Minnesota plays football?
They're actually know for their stellar crew team. I think that's what that boat rowing is all about right?
From what I've heard, you spend more time on crew running and carrying the boat than actually in it and rowing.
That's where Carroll's dad played. Also played for the Vikes.
Obligatory
I need a similar shot of Vice and/or Hilgart doing this except in a short-sleeve polo with a turkey leg.
Also, I noticed that Crosby's doing his best impression of the Bossman in his profile picture.
edit: changed to image host that doesn't suck.

Yes, they have a professional football team called the Vikings who've been to the SB 4 times (& lost).

https://n.rivals.com/news/take-two-how-will-no-2-prospect-darnell-wright-s-recruitment-shake-out-
I know LA doesn't think we have much of a shot but what a ridiculous class 2019 would be with him, Ford, and potentially Savion in the boat. He has the potential to start at LT replacing Nijman next year if he continues to develop and hopefully we snag him along with Hudson, Simonds, and Beaver, and Hanson.
That would be an amazing class and definitely has to be part of the pitch to Ford - look at the offensive line we are trying to build for you.
My cousin, a UVA fan, always says he will never think they can beat us in football until it actually happens. I feel the same way about these 5* recruits. I know we've gotten a couple, but Kendall was family and Tyrod was in our back yard. I'm not going back more than 10 years because that's essentially irrelevant in terms of how this program is viewed and the recruiting successes it has.
I am as high on this class as anyone and I am not trying to rain on the parade. I think we will get Devyn and I honestly think we can end up with 10 composite 4* guys this year. I believe Fuente and his staff are good recruiters and can pull off something special. I just can't believe a guy like Wright will come here until I see it happen.
Leg for seasoning this comment with UVA tears.
Not sure if it was just a video embedding issue or what, but I just saw Adarious Jones' film on 247 and man I want that kid so bad. If he really is 277 and moving like that he could blow defenses up on the inside. Looks very balanced and quick but super explosive and strong. Just runs right through some of these linemen. Also helps that he plays for a very talented and competitive program. Really excited about his upside if he comes to Tech. Not sure how much more weight he can hold on his frame, but he seems like our typical DT that is super quick but I don't think he will be as undersized as some of our other DTs in the past.
Kyle Chung tweeted that he has officially received his 6th year of eligibility
More valuable than any recruit for the 2018 season
Sooo what ever happened to that silent commit we supposedly had from like 3 or 4 weeks ago? Why would you wait this long if you're "committed"? Hoping this doesn't turn into a Gervin situation
there is a reason but it's not a Gervin (stupid autocorrect) situation. Spring game will be fun
Whats a "get in" situation?
Im guessing auto-correct at its finest, supposed to be Gervin situation. Kalon Gervin apparently silent committed to us last year but then he kept pushing back the announcement, VT eventually said eff this your out, and instead we got Jeremy Webb, who i think is better anyway.
For me it's usually drunk posting, but in his case may be a combination of auto-correct and liking dating more than your beau or bae.
Edit - Close enough of a respect I'll have that drink for brunch!
Ahhhh, copy. Thanks.
Evan Watkins with the Devyn Ford crystal ball. That and some heavy hitters heading to campus this weekend to open up Spring Ball.
Also got another CB for Bryan Hudson aaaaand that's it for the past week. March is lame.
So you're telling me we should be posting more GIFs?
Biiiiig time visitor list this weekend. Might be rescinding my comment about having to wait til spring game.

Wouldn't want to Sully the surprise?
Brandon Smith? Saw on his 247 timeline that he would be on an unofficial this weekend.
Haha no. Hudson and Simonds will be on campus to hang out with Hanson. Could see one of them pop.
WRT Smith, he is visiting this weekend. Some of the guys on 247 say we are gaining momentum and PSU still leads, but we could make moves with a good visit. Unfortunately I'm not buying it. From what I heard, he's PSU all the way. Could be wrong though.
I thought the same thing about Smith, which is why I wanted to clarify who you were talking about.
Love that all the big boys will be hanging out together this weekend. Can't believe we could end up with an OL class that we're more excited about than any other position group for 2019. Snagging both of them and then one of our top OT targets would be an amazing group.
Don't expect anything before Spring game. We have some big hitters coming in but I don't expect anything to really be announced till spring game week.
Everything is planned for a reason.
Really wish there was a DM feature on TKP....
It's the comment box below, you two can just talk about it here!
It's private, I promise. Just put [Private] at the start of the comment.
[private] Hey Skutt, you sure this works?
[Private] totally works, see?

[hokie07me edit: dammit]
Why am I seeing blank comment boxes?
That's how the new [private] feature works. Joe put it in so LAhokie and BAG could have those private conversations on TKP without giving anything away to us. Thanks Joe.
LAHOKIE or BAG will we get more commits at the Spring Game than UVA had rushing yards against us?
Ever seen a fat guy in a little coat? (Guys that may not know my style, that was a hint)
Don't do it...
Bag translation: Be prepared for an exciting spring game week. Lol
Picked up 4 more CBs for Ford yesterday as well, including one from Dohn.... I can almost hear the faint, crisp, twangy opening notes of Enter Sandman in my head...
That's funny I only hear gojira
Just saw Bryan Hudson on campus (Pamplin). Man I hope we can land him, he would be the most talented lineman we've had commit since Wyatt. Big recruiting weekend and excited to see the staff go to work!
We have a very good shot. I'm a little concerned about UL and you can never really count out someone like ND, but I think he's ours to lose.
Well those are words that should bring a lot of comfort to Hokie fans. /s
Hudson is crushing on VT hard right now, LA...
Spring game commitments?
Very possible.
Word on the street is that our Harrisonburg kid, Marcus Robinson-Jenkins, is visiting Kentucky and Louisville this weekend.
I think his stock is beginning to rise.
Anyone have an update on how the recruiting weekend is going?
New offers going out, kids are posting the usual happy tweets.
The #4 Kicker is very interested in us, no scholarship offer though
Hakeem Beamon decommitted from UNC
Oh shit
Offered by OSU in February and will visit them this Spring. I wouldn't hold your breath.
I would bet on OSU but I would still very much consider that a win.
I'm not claiming #sauces or anything but the rumor mill has been that the staff isn't as high on him as the recruiting services. I'm not saying he's not a take but I'm not sure how hard the staff is pursuing him.
Not sure anyone is that high on him honestly. Would be very surprised if most of his impressive offers accepted his commitment today.
Novice question: then why are the offers there? Do coaches take a catch-and-release kind of approach on recruits sometimes?
Depends on the school, situation, recruit, etc. For a school like Alabama, an "offer" for a kid that is not an elite prospect is more of an invitation to camp. For someone like us, the offers can be contingent upon certain things (i.e. if we miss out on a prospect that we have higher on the board, the player's development over time, grades).
Really an offer these days if more of a way to get a foot in the door.
we need to put together a recruiting/college sports glossary:
scholarship offer - not an offer of a scholarship (or scholarhip, if ECU)
commitment - when a recruit isn't really committed to attending a school
amateur athlete - when an athlete is paid by adidas to play at an adidas school
student athlete - when an athlete doesn't have to study to get a degree (UNC, mostly)
sold out crowd - when 80% of the seats are filled
#1 overall seed - the team with the easiest path to the final four, who then loses to the lowest seeded team
I'm sure I've missed some.
"Gurus"-people that don't actually know anything other than the third-hand information that they are given from often times very biased people. This information is then taken as gospel and the "gurus" are vilified when it doesn't work out.
I would have gone with
"Gurus" - people who probably get all their information from behind a paywall
Edit: THIS IS /S
Haha you are entitled to your opinion.
entitled - having a blue collar work ethic and never being the recipient of blue blood preferential treatment
"PissAnts"- people who had their morning cereal ruined and have to take it out on everyone else they come in contact with.
"humble Sauce Makers"- We share the news of what we know or what we are allowed to share. Tiptoeing that line is responsible and respectful, not a privilege.
was this not obviously a "glossary" of cheeky definitions? sorry for not putting the same "/s" that everyone else also didn't add 😞
it really wasn't geared towards you. I mean it was a cheeky comment till you put the /S up but just reminded me of normal "know it alls" at time.
Fair enough, I came back to my comment and saw it was downvoted to -3 and then saw both your and LAHokie's replies and figured maybe the tone didn't convey. Not the first time it's happened to me and I''d wager it won't be the last

6'5" Guard

via GIPHY
Two things:
1. If we're hosting transfer possibilities, that must mean that either a.) we aren't sure Outlaw's medical redshirt will be approved (I can't imagine it wouldn't be approved), or b.) we have another transfer we are anticipating.
2. James Scott is 6'5" 188, so get ready for everyone to freak out that he's not 6'11", 250 lbs with a great outside shot and blocks 15 shots per game. You know, he's not Marvin Bagley.
"Freak out" isn't the same as expecting VT's 2nd tallest player to be as tall as our opponent's 5th or 6th tallest player
Teams who have appreciably bigger rotations than VT in the Sweet 16 (8): Purdue, Kansas, Syracuse, Duke, Kentucky, FSU, Gonzaga, aTm.
Teams who have no appreciable height advantage on VT in the Sweet 16 (8): KSU, Loyola, Nevada, Michigan, Villanova, WVU, Texas Tech, Clemson.
If you look at that first list, those are the true blue blood schools who can recruit whomever they want (Kansas, Duke, Kentucky) and schools who are known for playing a big frontline (Purdue, Syracuse, FSU, Gonzaga, aTm). Neither of those is VT. We can't get the Bagley's of the world and Buzz' system highlights wings, not posts.
There is this mindset that we are the smallest team known to man. Maybe without Sy it was more noticeable this year or without KJB last year, LeDay at the 5 was the issue (but I don't remember a lot of losses due to LeDay's height). But the concern should be our perimeter defense. The disadvantages due our size (rebounding, post defense) aren't that significant compared to the advantages our versatility on the wing on O and the switchability on D provide with our current roster. The problem against Bama and almost every loss we had this year was poor defense on the perimeter.
again, the problem is not that we play 4 Guards/Wings and 1 Forward. That's a perfectly fine system as long as a few of the Wings are in the 6'5 - 6'7 range. We do not need two players 6'9" or taller on the court at the same time.
The problem is we had only one single player taller than 6'6" in the rotation at Forward. Our backup Forward is 6'5" (or 6'6" if you consider Clarke to be part-time backup for Blackshear) As a result when that one 6'9" player got in foul trouble, our whole defense (and offense to some degree) was in trouble.
To compensate we had to run a defense that packed the lane and therefore had to give up more space to spot-up shooters on the outside. As a result teams had more of an opportunity to get hot from the outside. It's easy to blame perimeter defense when someone strokes a career record # of 3's against us, but it all comes back to not having enough big bodies on the roster. Whether it was trying to protect our single tall player from foul trouble, or simply having to having to double the post because our tall guy was on the bench resting, we had to sacrifice outside coverage.
Just having a serviceable backup forward with size to play the position half decently would give us a lot more flexibility to adapt on defense. We don't need a Bagley, we don't even need another Blackshear. Just someone who has a couple post moves and can set good screens on O and who can play 1v1 defense in the post. Hopefully Sy has developed enough to be that player next season.
Boom. Nailed it.
It was noticed by a few commentators at the tail end of our season how we basically started using a pack-line defense. You need to close out hard on the perimeter for it to be most effective, but you're also playing the percentages that teams won't get hot from deep. It's pretty much exactly what happened to UVA against UMBC, coupled with UVA going cold from 3-point range.
Just having 5 more fouls from an interior defender with length will be extremely valuable. Sy can provide that off the bench to spell KJ if/when he gets in foul trouble.
Clarke's height is determined by his gameday hairdo......
I remember a player in the 80's with a similar situation
" target="_blank">
Maybe without Sy it was more noticeable this year or without KJB last year
Exactly. People seem to think Buzz willingly only had one big man. Everybody forgets that for the last two years one of his bigs has been injured. I understand you would like for him to account for these things, but if you have 3 game ready bigs and only one is on the court at any given time, somebody is going to transfer. That is not a roster you can hold onto.
Instead he supplements his true bigs with guys like LeDay who are slightly undersized, but play big and certainly are not wings. I think Horne will be that player next. Just watching him get his own rebound twice and put it back against Alabama was really exciting. He's shown flashes of a player that can do things around the rim that don't make sense. Blocking shots of guys 5 inches taller than him, grabbing quick rebounds like that over true bigs, a nice little jump hook, etc... Maybe I'm crazy but I am really really high on PJ in the years to come
EDIT: After posting realized this is the recruiting thread. But hey, what's a recruiting thread without some OT discussion.
I believe this is a typical transfer, meaning that Scott will have to sit out next year anyway. Outlaw should play next season if his medical redshirt comes through.
This has the look of finding an experienced wing ready to go in 2019-2020 once Outlaw & Hill graduate, plus potentially losing NAW to the NBA.
EDIT: I also keep forgetting that Clarke will be a senior next year. That's a lot of wings to potentially replace if Outlaw, Hill, Clarke & NAW all leave at the same time.
Note - he is the regular type of transfer who would have to sit out the '18-19 season. We're projected at 13/13 scholarships for next season so someone would have to leave to make room.
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but didn't Nick Fullard get put on scholarship last fall?
Considering he's a redshirt junior who got very little playing time, there's a real possibility he'll be moving on. Wouldn't that open up another scholarship?
Fullard is a walk-on who got the leftover 13th scholarship this year, but won't be on scholarship next season. (edit: he will probably still be with the team as a walk-on) That scholarship is already going to be used for the incoming 2018 freshmen.
We need 3 scholarships to cover Nolley, McAllister and Kabongo and we only have 2 graduating seniors - Bibbs and Wilson.
I see, thanks for the clarification.
Makes you wonder where guys like Pig & Med see themselves in the rotation next year. I'd hate to see him go, but considering Med is a redshirt junior and is probably close to getting his degree, he seems the likeliest candidate to leave as a grad transfer.
Please not Pig. I think he can he a lock down defender, has shown ability to rebound in traffic, and can be a big time scorer as Buzz has mentioned. Med, yeah I could see that for sure.
Looking forward to the April Football recruiting string as this one has evolved into MBB
Considering they are recruiting threads and not sport specific, you may be waiting a while. 20 out of 220ish comments are MBB... It will be okay.
Agreed I will, but the BB is not even about recruiting. Would be cool to have a BB and FB recruiting thread separately......JMO
Woo woo woo BB is all about recruiting
Not sure where else to put this. The BOV is meeting on Monday and I found this in the public BOV meeting notes/agenda. The new dorm titled "Creativity & Innovation District Residence Hall" which will include 176 athletes is moving forward. As has been mentioned previously, the ongoing VT Master Plan process calls for this dorm to be located where the existing University Club building is located on
StrangerKent Street.So...no laser tag?
Also, the Student Athlete Performance Center is going to construction Summer 2019 with occupancy early 2021. ACC broadcasting studio will go to construction this spring with occupancy Spring 2019. It will be located under the west side of South Stands in Lane

Yeah, a little newer than I remembered it being but the architectural significance is minimal. On one of the historic sites our group owns, the buildings from the teens and twenties are officially "non-contributing" structures.
You mean older? And historic is all relative
Green carpet and mirrors. Everywhere.
Is this the old stone building across from McBryde?
The brick building just across Kent St from Vawter
Well, I was wondering, because it said Stanger Street. Having lived in Vawter, I knew this as the University Club, but it was nowhere near Stranger. I figured they must have been talking about a previous incarnation. This is on Wall st., isn't it?
Yep. Wall is the street directly behind it in this picture.
Correct, not on Stanger. Sits between Kent and Otey Streets along Wall St.
Probably worth its own thread
That sounds like a giant facility on a site that is just not that big... interested to see the prelim site plans.
So can we retroactively get josh sweat now?
Sheridan Jones Top 7
Interesting top 7. At the moment, I'm not sure he's a take at more than 2, mayyybe 3 of those.
Why do you say that? Wouldn't a 4 star recruit be a take at many schools unless they are filled out in that position?
A few reasons - OSU, Bama, and Clemson are recruiting at a level where just being a 4* doesn't get you in the door. Look at each of their last few classes, they're getting top 5-10 guys at their positions across the board. Really, he may be the 6th Or 7th (or more) best DB OSU is going after.
Also, there is just a general difference with what recruiting services look at and what coaches look at. When guys are younger, they're judged largely by their potential. If a guy is a sophomore and is promising, he may get a bunch of (conditional) offers. It's not uncommon for players to peak, physically and ability-wise. He's a 4* now, but very well might not be next time the recruiting services re-rank.
So what makes you feel this specific individual may have peaked or may be downgraded?
Well you can't say 'you' like I'm the one making the decision whether or not he gets offers. That's what coaches do. I don't think he's a take at Bama, OSU, Clemson, and maybe not even VT currently. I don't know about UT, USC, or N. That doesn't mean he won't sign with one of those teams, but they'll likely have to miss on some targets for for him to sign, so I wouldn't expect a commitment to those 4 soon.
i get that you're not calling shots, but you're saying you think he is or isn't a take at certain schools and I want to know what made you feel that way
Is he a take for us?
Random: hurts to see MJ Walker on FSU, knowing we had a chance with him... #GoBlue #Salty
It's not like he's dominating any games. Just another guy in the rotation. Not saying he isn't good but it makes the miss a lot more palatable since he isn't incredibly good l, at least yet
He looked pretty damn good against VT as the token opponent who doubles/triples their season averages.
He dominated the game against Vah Tech
One good game does not a season make. He shot 38% this year and averaged 7 points a game. Not exactly dominant
We're at home they were in the Elite 8 I say he feels pretty validated.
and a freshman year does not a career make.
He would have been a huge get for this program. MJ Walker and NAW together would have been amazing.
This is what I don't get about FSU and their recruiting ability. Hamilton consistently plays such a deep lineup that guys like MJ Walker who are highly skilled but need experience don't get on the court for extended time to develop. Why on earth that would be appealing to recruits is beyond me. It's a miracle they finally made a run in the tournament.
It looks like Devyn Ford is announcing earlier than expected....if this is true.
Here's hoping that we are the last school he visits!
We're not. Unless he visits after OV's.
What are the thoughts on Ford and VT? It seems like we have pulled out all of the stops (the random Michael Vick encounter in one of the facilities during the Clemson weekend for example) and the coaches have done a great job. We just need to close on the kid.
The true freshman RB at Ohio State was a beast and PSU has a lot of RBs (including Slade). Ford can come to VT and be the top RB in the program almost immediately.
Recruits don't care about that all the time. The fact OSU had a true freshman blow up is just helping their pitch of "the best man plays regardless of age" . And every blue chip RB thinks theyre the best. See Laborn joining a 3 man RB class with cam Akers
True. Laborn also appears to not be the brightest.
Fuente has done some good work and it sounds like Ford will fit the system well.
Laborn isn't the first and he won't be the last. Ignoring your petty insult at his intelligence, OSU was still able to bring in 3 4* RBs in the 2018 class who all know they have to beat out dobbins. Depth chart doesn't affect blue bloods because they'll just pitch, "play for one year, less wear on your body, still get drafted" and it works.
Feels good man. Hardly a lock but we're in a good position heading into these visits.
Is he tight with Nana at PSU? Wish we got that dude
If I remember correctly, they're friends but aren't super tight. I think Nama got PSU a hot in the ring but they're not close enough for it to have a major impact on Devyn's decision.
I assume we are working the Anthony Shegog/Joey Slye North Stafford connection hard.
All these guys who are top in the state/country think they're the best in the state/country. They think they can come in and take the job from whoever currently has it. They're all so uber talented and athletic and have always been told how good they are that they don't always look at it from that perspective.
You KNOW gramma wants him to stay home.
Depends on where grandma lives, but PSU is only 25 minutes further than VT from NSHS. That's not enough for comfort yet!
People forget how far Tech is from NOVA and 757. Staying home sometimes means going to an out of state school.
But....This Is Home.
For sure. Staying home would be more like going to UVA to be completely honest. Being from the 757, it is a 5 and a half hour drive for me to get to Tech at times. UVA is about half of that. Also, if we're being real about a "home" feel, the city of Charlottesville and surrounding areas is more similar to my home than southwestern VA.
till you go to homeplace. That is literally like grandma's home on thanksgiving day
fuck I hate that Ohio State is always in on Va guys.
Anyhow, ...give me an early birthday present, Ford. Please.
Man this would be some amazing early momentum for the rest of the class.
This day in age we see most commits using social media to help recruit other kids in after they commit. That becomes even more impactful when it's a big time blue chipper like Ford. Talent attracts talent.
Agree. Our big recruits in the last two years (Devon Hunter and Dax Hollifield) have announced late in the process where you couldn't build any momentum. Getting Devyn to commit (still only a VERBAL) would be huge.
Is it acceptable for croots to tweet at each other?
Do hummingbirds hum because they don't know the words?
VT and Clemson ahead of the pack right now. Loved Clemson's facilities, but loves the idea of his family and friends being able to come to a game at VT. Fuente let him know that VT will get the ball in his hands whether it be as rb or even slot.. Let him enjoy his visits, only get free trips once, and relax. Hes very humble about it all and doesnt let it get to his head, hence the early decision. Great family too!
So that means he'll commit to Clemson and start a meltdown here?
Everything I've read so far only has him talking officials to the Good Guys, PSU, and OSU before his decision. Never want to discount Clemson, but how big of a player can they really be if they aren't even getting an official. Also thought I read somewhere they were recruiting him as a DB...
Clemson isn't allowing anyone to take spring OV's.
Ah, did not know that. Thanks for the update. I've seen our coaches don't seem to be too fond of the spring OVs either.
Bud said something today about kids are now visiting 11 months a year now.
I think the major complaints from them is that say if they allow a top target visit in April, but that same target then takes offficials in August and September to other schools that are courting his services. If he make an October decision, I think it's pretty obvious who's gonna to win that one.
I believe this was discussed previously, but the biggest complaint from Fuente was how much more of a burden it puts on the support staff; All of the other people that are a huge part of official visits that aren't directly apart of the Football program. Academic Advisors, Food and Health Services, folks from specific academic programs, etc. have to be on-call pretty much year round to be ready to host an official visit.
That's a big part of it as well. But there's also a reason Ford is the only spring official visitor that we have.
I saw some clips of DJ Matthews practicing for FSU over the weekend. Holy crap....it would have been awesome if we got him.
I saw those clips too. Made people look stupid trying to even get a hand on him
I saw that and considered posting it somewhere on here but I didn't want anyone having a meltdown all over again. His speed and quickness in those videos is truly insane.
4-star MD WR Demarcco Hellams is on campus this weekend. Not sure what our chances are but the kid is a stud
