It will also look better for us if North Carolina, Louisville, and NC State win.
An NC State win may be enough to push them into the top 50 RPI, we beat North Carolina, and between Louisville and Florida State, Louisville can fall further and still stay in the top 50

I've been wondering about this actually. Is it better for the teams we've beaten to beat the teams we've lost to to make our wins look better, or for the teams we've lost to to beat the teams we've beaten to make our losses look better?
🤔

The better answer is it depends on how the win loss affects the standings. A team changing "quadrants" affects us, good or bad. A change between 38th and 48th has much less affect than a change from 51-49, etc.

I think Chris Clarke would be a great option to guard Colson. Colson has been out a while and Clarke's energy and athleticism could really wear him down fast. Also Colson is not a huge guy, so Clarke wouldn't be giving up too much size and Clarke has the quickness to stay with him.

IMO the rest argument is a bit overrated. These are 18-20 year olds in top athletic shape, I imagine they can recover from a 30-40 minute game in 24 hours. But I didn't play ACC ball so what do I know.

Probably because we RARELY to never beat them (you know, it REALLY grinds my gears that we didn't have a better record vs Miami before they landed Larranaga. I always felt we should've been a better program than them at hoops).

My employer has blocked all websites I could potentially watch any games on. Something about it causes too much latency, but I'm not a tech person, so I don't understand it. At any rate, I'm sitting over here all grumpy-like.

This GIF reminds me of when I was a young Ernest watching the #5 Hokies play from the cold, rickety, wooden south end zone against Syracuse in 2001. We lost 14-22 in a terribly-played game by the good guys. As I was leaving, I overhead a fan proclaim to his friends, "Well I guess there's only one thing left to do..." I perked up because I didn't really know how to feel or what to do. And then he boisterously said, "DRINK HEAVILY." For some reason, I'll never forget that.

Mentioned yesterday, Colson looks extremely out of shape and Farrell is playing on a slightly tweaked ankle. Two things that we have to take advantage of.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So.....we want to root for Virginia Tech because if they win, they keep moving on. If they keep moving on, it means they're continuing to win. Not too terribly difficult to understand, but by no means not self-explanatory either.

While I appreciate the effort, seems like to me that if you're going to put up a "rooting guide", maybe the game times/television broadcast locations should be posted.

But then it wouldn't have played as well off of the Day 1 Rooting Guide. If the top-level information (or any relevant information for that matter) was included, it wouldn't have mirrored yesterday's.

Absolutely agree, just sort of half paying attention I had to play it back a couple times just to be sure I heard him right. As someone who is more on the pessimistic side of things and viewing every game with what feels like holding your breath til the clock hits zero no matter who we play, it was just weird to hear that come from someone saying we have the depth to make a run.

NC State had a pretty favorable conference slate this year. Of the top 4 seeds, they only played Clemson twice. They went 2-3 in games against the top 4 seeds, beating Duke & Clemson once.
Which makes our season all the more interesting - we played 3 of the top 4 seeds twice, and went 3-4. Not bad considering we lost some of the projected winnable games (Syracuse, Louisville x2, Miami x2).

if the BC result holds, the underdog will have won both the early games by a wide margin. Hoping for 3 for 3 come 9pm. Syracuse making it 4/4 would be icing on the cake just to see UNC lose again.

I mean, they've played a great schedule. OOC wins over Michigan, Ohio St, Tennessee. Beat Duke, beat Cleympsun, NCST, ND. Bucknell is a conf champ, Arkansas is a tourney team...
"Good" losses to Duke, UVa, Clemson, VT
#1 SOS in the nation. 'Nuff said.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Or a better SOS. That shit matters. Committee sees that loss as a blip and nothing more. If they make the final, they're a 2. If not, maybe a 3. (If they lose tonight, they're a lethal 4 seed.)
I agree w/ you - that was a bad loss, but yeah.

NC State loses the ball on the inbounds after their own timeout and fouls BC, BC up 4. NC state gets a basket with 7.3 seconds left. BC still has 2 pt lead.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Apparently a Technical was called on NC State after the basket. BC up four with the ball and wins. Another tobacco road loss and that is all I care about.

If we win this game, we get to play in the next round!
Big if true
If we win this doubleheader vs ND and RefU, we get to take on Duke and RefU!
/s kinda.
I'll give my thoughts once I get all the way through this guide.
Take your time fam.
It will also look better for us if North Carolina, Louisville, and NC State win.

I believe the answer you're looking for is "yes".
(pronounced kev' in)
The better answer is it depends on how the win loss affects the standings. A team changing "quadrants" affects us, good or bad. A change between 38th and 48th has much less affect than a change from 51-49, etc.
I would think you want your wins to look as good as possible
I'm not sure, those Q U A L I T Y L O S S E S can really help you out in the ACC. Just look at UVA.
It's better for teams we can beat to win. I think that means we want teams we have already lost to to lose because we don't match up well with them.
I want Clemson to make the finals for 3 reasons (in no particular order):
The ACC would be so confused having a Clemson-VT basketball championship. I bet they would enact a 3rd place game in that scenario.
or a double elimination style tournament
Mike Brey needs to put a damn tie on.
He can have mine if I can find it.
Agreed. #BeatND
For all those who may be in NYC, here's your "official" ACC Tourney guide to all things Hokies this week:

Should be very interesting to see what crowds are like in Barclays today, given there's a pretty big snowstorm coming through.
Don't be surprised to see lots of empty seats.

Agreed, and Buzz has said that Bibbs is our best off ball defender, so those two tag teaming on him can do this while keeping our guys fresher.
Dont be too surprised to DW rotate in to guard Colson as well. DW is active.

Dang, she's already in uniform

I know it's tough to beat a time fighting for it's tournament lives but man, 3 days rest vs a team who played last night has to be a win every time.
IMO the rest argument is a bit overrated. These are 18-20 year olds in top athletic shape, I imagine they can recover from a 30-40 minute game in 24 hours. But I didn't play ACC ball so what do I know.
The 2nd half today will tell the tale....
We need to run!

I want the Hokies to win and Miami and Louisville to lose. For some reason we have issues with them.
Probably because we RARELY to never beat them (you know, it REALLY grinds my gears that we didn't have a better record vs Miami before they landed Larranaga. I always felt we should've been a better program than them at hoops).
T-minus 102 minutes before i can start watching the acc tourney at work

What? Tweak Colson's ankle?
So.....we want to root for Virginia Tech because if they win, they keep moving on. If they keep moving on, it means they're continuing to win. Not too terribly difficult to understand, but by no means not self-explanatory either.
If we win it means we beat a team that lost to the team that beat the #1 team. Quick maths.
Sadly, I had to think about that for a second. I'm a visual learner.
So, is this gonna be the thread for the game??
This will be the thread for all of the games except for ours.
Time to win 10 in a row
Not counting next year of course.
I'll be honest... If we start a 10 game win streak today, I probably won't give much of a shit how we do next season
Until next season.
The production truck is taking some creative liberties with the shots for this first game.
Yeah, not a fan.
The absurd amount of low-angle shots is maddening.
EDIT: And the overhead boom camera angle. Sheesh.
There's a tech baseball game on the radio rn if anyone likes baseball
I'm listening while watching FSU get smoked
Wow, FSU was a 2 point favorite in this. Up by 19 at the half 44-21. Oh wait. LOUISVILLE is up by 19.
I'm glad Walker chose the right school for him and his family.
WHOOPS!
Louisville has definitely responded to their bubble situation well. I'd say they want another crack at UVA pretty bad too.
Louisville on a 24-5 run to end the half, ouch.
While I appreciate the effort, seems like to me that if you're going to put up a "rooting guide", maybe the game times/television broadcast locations should be posted.
Earn those 47 turkey legs.
Yes, it was hilarious, just like it was yesterday. I do get it, really, I do.
Still, though, a schedule would be nice in future editions...
But then it wouldn't have played as well off of the Day 1 Rooting Guide. If the top-level information (or any relevant information for that matter) was included, it wouldn't have mirrored yesterday's.
OK, good point.
Not like it's hard to find ESPN, anyway, and we can always google the times.
Wouldn't have been nearly as funny if it had said "New and Improved" and included the games/times...
What if it said "new and improved" but when you open it, it still had the one sentence rooting guide?
#mindblown
For "New and Improved", I'd expect some schedules and programming information...
Summary of the OP
The gif was longer than the OP
Shoutout to the guy at ESPN who used Charleston Southern's logo for College of Charleston in the punched tickets graphic.
You
can'tdon't pay for talent like that E$PNF$U is making this a game. Cut the deficit after being down 26.
You can see how Louisville blew their UVA game.
Weird ending. FSU gave away so much time in the last minute.
Just not good enough, James.
Tom Crean just saying our name along with Sweet 16 or Elite 8...there are no walls left.
Well, other than winning some more games at those levels of play.
Absolutely agree, just sort of half paying attention I had to play it back a couple times just to be sure I heard him right. I don't trust males with Spray tans. But I do like the sound of that.
Bowman and Popovic are making NC State look silly with this two man game.
Edit: Guess I shouldn't have said anything.
Geeze, Pack has been super sluggish this half.
If BC plays like this for the rest of today through tomorrow they could beat Clemson and make the semis.
BC is better than their record.
Whelp, they are in this game (thus far). But are they (on most/typical days) better than NCST?
NC State had a pretty favorable conference slate this year. Of the top 4 seeds, they only played Clemson twice. They went 2-3 in games against the top 4 seeds, beating Duke & Clemson once.
Which makes our season all the more interesting - we played 3 of the top 4 seeds twice, and went 3-4. Not bad considering we lost some of the projected winnable games (Syracuse, Louisville x2, Miami x2).
We had the toughest in conference record in the ACC. Give us NC State's schedule and we could have been the three seed easily.
FTFY
I'm saying it would have never gotten to that point.
if the BC result holds, the underdog will have won both the early games by a wide margin. Hoping for 3 for 3 come 9pm. Syracuse making it 4/4 would be icing on the cake just to see UNC lose again.
I want to know what UNC has done to earn some of these 2 seed projections other than just being UNC.
'Nuff said.
They also got punked by a SoCon also-ran in their own house. I don't think any of the other two seed candidates have a worse loss.
Or a better SOS. That shit matters. Committee sees that loss as a blip and nothing more. If they make the final, they're a 2. If not, maybe a 3. (If they lose tonight, they're a lethal 4 seed.)
I agree w/ you - that was a bad loss, but yeah.
Yyyyyeah regarding that last game:
is there a possible scenario where both teams can lose? Because that would be some tasty icing.
I am sure you are referring to Vegas underdog, but the other way this could be read is the lower seed. I don't want to see that trend to continue.
NC State making a game of it...
Closed to 2 pts. Come on BC, heel those wolves.
What you did there, I see it.
NC State shooting 72% in the second half. Tied game with 33 seconds to go.
BC with 2 pt lead 13.6 seconds left. NC State has the ball.
NC State loses the ball on the inbounds after their own timeout and fouls BC, BC up 4. NC state gets a basket with 7.3 seconds left. BC still has 2 pt lead.
Apparently a Technical was called on NC State after the basket. BC up four with the ball and wins. Another tobacco road loss and that is all I care about.
JRob with a NOICE jumper for the lead.
LOL. NC State imploding here at the end.
Boneheaded turnover on the inbound, BC free throws put them up 4, NC State lays it in and then calls a timeout... but they don't have any!
Thanks with no sound at the office, I couldn't tell what the technical was for.
Didn't know mike London was coaching for NC state now
#ChrisWebber
BC advances to play Clemson tomorrow. Things getting interesting in Brooklyn!
so far both lower seeds have won today time to right the ship!
Its always good when NCSU loses.
