FAM, I just noticed that UMBC's head coach is none other than former Hokies assistant Ryan Odom (2003-2010) AND a UVA ball boy when his father coached in BooHooVille under Holland in the 80's.

I love that Ryan Odom was an assistant coach for VT. It makes this win that much more special
UMBC head coach Ryan Odom was a VT assistant from 2003-2010. 2003 was the last time UVA beat VT in the only sport that matters. Odom was a ballboy when his father Dave coached at UVA in the 80's. The last time UVA was #1 in basketball they lost to Chaminade in the 80's. Cut down those nets.

I got absolutely hammered pounding bourbon that game. UMBC couldn't miss. Drunk ordered a UMBC shirt from amazon at 1:30 a.m.
10 people at work are doing brackets. Just for fun, I had my five year old fill one out and I've been comparing it to the ones at work.

And he's either extremely lucky or a true genius, because he picked UMBC.
It's funny seeing UVA fans online poke at how they had a better season, that they were #1 at some point, etc. as a way to deflect what happened. And yet I love to remind them that:
No, it doesn't matter that you were #1. No, it doesn't matter that VT lost as an 8-seed to 9th seeded Alabama. No, it doesn't matter that you had a better season than us. All anyone is going to remember about UVA's season is that you became the first 1-seed to lose to a 16-seed and you have to relive it every season until the end of time when the commentators and writers ask who will be the next UMBC or which 1-seed is the next UVA.
UVa bookended their reign as #1 with losses.
Literally, they lost the VT in the last game they were not #1 and lost to a 16-seed the last game they were #1. Its like this whole season was a long drawn out set up to a joke, and they were the punchline. And it was a damn funny joke.
