I woke up early to a beautiful day. The sun is shining, my tea is warm, and UVA is a national embarrassment. Here are a few articles I've read. I thought everyone else might enjoy basking in their misery as well.
(If you only have time for one article, make it the Forde article. It's delicious.)
UMBC's Historic Win Over Virginia Didn't Look Lucky - Rodger Sherman, The Ringer
But what happened Friday night? This was not a normal upset. UMBC didn't just win; it creamed Virginia. It won by 20, the new largest deficit faced by Virginia this season.
The Same System That Made UVA a Powerhouse Turned It Into a Punch Line - Shakar Samman, The Ringer
Even with ACC Sixth Man of the Year De'Andre Hunter sidelined by a late-season wrist injury, KenPom predicted Virginia would win their tournament opener by 20 points. That became their margin of defeat. When the final buzzer sounded in the Spectrum Center, the scoreboard read the improbable: UMBC 74, Virginia 54.
You'll never forget that score: 74-54. And if you saw a legend in real time, you'll never forget where you were as it happened or how it looked as it took shape. Unforgettable. Momentous. Dominant. UMBC didn't beat Virginia, it eradicated it from the bracket and left a plume of smoke that will hover over the sport for decades.
Virginia's March Madness woes hit a new low - Daily Progress, Jerry Ratcliffe
Oh, yeah, and that thing they built their whole program upon, the Pack Line defense, was almost nonexistent, bedazzled by UMBC's quicksilver, four-guard lineup.
And finally, Pat Forde comes in off the top rope:
No escape for Virginia after historic 'L' to UMBC - Pat Forde, Yahoo Sports
The 1-16 upset has long been considered one of the final frontiers in sports. The truly impossible upset. And it has been perpetrated by a commuter school from the America East upon the leafy upper-crust Atlantic Coast Conference enclave founded by Thomas Jefferson.

Pat Forde = Savage
The first line of the article is absolutely vicious:
One haymaker from Pat after another:
My goodness...
and
It's like every sports writer in the country is competing over how savagely they can take down UVA. It's glorious.
I wish he'd do an audio recording because this article is the new Cowherd rant.
Burnop and Laaser should hold some air time where they do nothing but read aloud these articles so we can listen back before UVA games
This will live on and on...Next year all the talking heads will bring up how UMBC destroyed LOLUVA when the brackets get announced...it will be the gift that keeps on giving.
You magnificent bastard for thinking of this.
These are great headlines. Nicely done.
This is amazing; thanks for pulling it all together. I love that they got that lollipop layup at the very end to make it a round 20 point win. Just rings so nicely when you look at it.
Forde's articles has so many great one-liners I can't even begin to find a favorite.
I want to frame these.
You missed the schadenfreude article on Deadspin
Hoo tears gallery
UVA will never...never...be able to crawl out of the shadow of this loss.
They could win 5 titles in a row and this game would still be the first thing that comes up when talking about the Wahoos and March Madness.
I for one welcome our new UMBC overlords. Would have loved to see the Hokies win their game, but the way Nova is shooting 3s right now, the fun would have been short lived. This single results leaves me with an overall positive feeling about the season.
Hello, Hokie friends. I watched the UVA loss last night to the Retrievers with great delight. Afterwards, all I could think of was the delicious schadenfreude you guys must be feeling. I wanted to point out how this, to an Ohio State fan, must feel to you like the time Appalachian State beat Michigan. What a day that was! And the best part is that it is the gift that keeps giving, year after year, as it is brought up by sportscasters & random references at unexpected times! Enjoy this for years to come!

Yes!
Every VT/UVA game in basketball or football will have a mention or outright discussion of this result until the end of time. The gift that keeps on giving
"until the end of time".? Nah. Chaminade only lasted a few decades. loluva will likely find a way, though, to beat this new embarrassment about the time it starts to fade.
This loss will live on until there's another 16-1 upset, and even after that because they were the first. The 16-1 angle is why this will last longer than Chaminade.
That and it's on tape and media and thousands of people were here in person.
Yep. You NEVER forget your first (amiright).
UVAvsUMCB
OVER
USAvsRUSSIA
OVER
13COLONIESvsBRITAIN
I don't think the US-Russia one makes sense. There's no real underdog or upset. I guess we won the Cold War but we weren't exactly expected to lose the way UMBC was
Hockey?
Hockey is definitely what I was going for.
ooooooooh
Put it this way...that game made national news. I know most of you all probably don't watch it, but it was a real hoot for us old timers to see them make that dubious distinction.
Also want to send my sympathies out to all the Golden Retrievers in Charlottesville tonight. Maybe we can get up a Go Fund Me for a Golden rescue service for all those trendy, but inconveniently evocative puppies that'll never be loved again.
I take great satisfaction, delight, happiness and gratification in all of lol's misery. May it live forever
But wait! There's more!

This article concludes:
Can I get an "Amen!" from the choir?!
Clicked on the link. There's a video of GT's 41-38 victory over No. 1 loluva in 1990. Same as it ever was. Empty seats in Scott. The number 1 team in the nation. smh
It shocks me how ignorant and privileged the UVA fan base is. No matter what is brought up in discussion, they continue to believe that since they have tennis and lacrosse championships, they are somehow amongst the greatest sports universities in the country.
Ignorance is bliss, especially when you're the laughing stock of the country in now the two biggest major sports.
After Twitter became so big and you could interact with literally anyone who had an open account (contrary to Facebook where you have to be friends with someone to interact with them), my hatred for UVA grew. Growing up in West Virginia, I never interacted with any UVA fans given that most of their alumni wouldn't want to be caught dead in a place like southern WV, and no one just casually roots for them in any sport even if they don't attend there. Once I was on Twitter, though, and started interacting with and hearing stories about their fans and their arrogant attitudes towards everything, I wish their sports teams zero prosperity, no matter who they're playing.
My love for Tech is trumped only by my hatred for uva
It's their loss (and you don't want them around to spoil it anyway):

I wonder what the Heard is going to say about this?
He tweeted a question about which #1 seed would lose first. Only 5 votes, but all picked loluva.
#PunchUVaPeopleInTheNeck
Got a "friend" on FB. He posted a comment about Paul Woody of the Richmond Times-Dispatch in which he blasted Woody as a 'poor writer' and 'devoid of any insight into sports'. A 'clueless hack' who is 'still bitter he couldn't get inti (sic) UVA'.
I feel sorry for the loluva players and coaches. That was a monumental and embarrassing loss. But the above is why I hate loluva and ALWAYS pull against them. loluva's fans are insufferable.
Other than the bitter because he couldn't get into UVA bit, that sounds like the same Woody that folks on this site have blasted as a poor writing hack who is just mailing it in. The thing I didn't like about this column was his dissing of the ACC as an overrated basketball league, which I thought was unwarranted. Otherwise, Woody got it just about right.
I've seen that in various places too and I think it's a poor & lazy take.
The ACC still put 4 teams in the Sweet 16, which ties the Big 12 this year. If anything, the seeds of the ACC teams being 2, 5, 9 & 11 shows how deep and competitive the conference was this year.
LOLUVA snobbery aside, Woody still isn't good at his job.
Some of the talking heads were talking about if Bennett would feel a little heat after getting killed on national tv.
My favorite version of this message board-style conjecture has him being replaced with Rick Pitino.
For what it's worth, Jim Boeheim thinks that the people who are serious about it are either "unemployed or idiots".
UVA losses associate head coach and best recruiter, Ron Sanchez.

Even though I'm sure it has more to do with the Under Armor connection, I like to pretend that Steph Curry, honorary Hokie (thanks Greenberg!), sent UMBC goodies just to troll UVA.

You do realize that LOLUVA did do one amazing thing in their loss on Friday. They broke every bracket in play at ESPN and in the Warren Buffet challenge. First time every bracket has been killed before at least the second weekend.
I'd argue that they did two amazing things in their loss on Friday, with the first being that they lost on Friday.
