Rivals interviewed blue-chip running back Devyn Ford following his official visit to Virginia Tech. The Hokies seemingly have the momentum right now. Read the entire article for complete context, but these parts stuck out to me.
"I still believe everybody is equal in my mind," he said. "Virginia Tech did somethings that I really did like and enjoy. I need to see what the other two schools are doing too. As of right now, Virginia Tech is the one with the momentum. I just want to make sure everybody knows that they are all on the same level right now and there is no real frontrunner right now."
Needless to say, Virginia Tech knocked it out of the park with Ford. The growth he's seen from the Hokies on the field, the improved recruiting classes, and the way the coaching staff is able to make quick adjustments are all very important to him.
To make matters worse for Ohio State, Ford was caught off guard by the Steele Chambers commitment.

Reading the Rivals article, it still seems like he holds OSU in a slightly higher regard than Tech. Anyone else pick up on that, or am I just being pessimistic as always?
remember the article was written before the chambers commitment so the tone of his comments may not still apply.

It will be ok...... I have always felt really good based on my #sauces for Ford and this recent OSU commitment really helps I believe in swaying him even more our way.
He is a smart kid, let's see how this plays out. I really believe the honest and upfront approach by our staff will pay dividend after OSU spends the next few weeks try to make Ford believe this new kid was never a RB choice for them.

Losing Ford to PSU would be pretty awful, to say the least. I'm not in panic mode or anything given the amount of time before his decision, but he's been a guy Fuente and company have targeted and presumably been in good shape for awhile now.
I've been one to cut slack on the staff for missing on some big targets the past two cycles, but the reality is missing on Ford would be a massive failure. I still think we get him at the end of the day, but if we don't the meltdown from the fanbase will be epic, and rightfully so.
The good thing is Fuente knows this, and everyone here knows he and the staff will do everything in their power to close. The problem is Franklin is pretty darn good at closing and that program has some serious momentum and swagger going on for them right now, especially with running backs.
I appreciate your optimism and the good vibes that LAH and BAG are throwing out for Ford, but if there's anything that being a Hokie fan does it's that you immediately go into panic mode for recruiting when other schools gain ground on top prospects. It's played out too many times before. We'll see if Fuente has any magic up his sleeves that Beamer didn't have the last few years of his tenure, but when the last 2 CBs go to PSU... yup, panic mode it is.

These people are paid to flip their CB predictions so they can maintain accuracy. It's almost a month out from Ford's decision. It likely doesn't reflect what will actually happen, and they're just giving the general "vibe" with what they are hearing.
I'd be more worried if these CB's came within a week of a decision rather than after one official visit that went well. Then again, offseason too strong
Obviously I'm in the dark on how the entire process really works or where the "recruiting insiders" get their information. I assume they don't (can't?) have direct contact with a recruit. So it's either based on an assumption from talking with those close to a recruit or someone at the (insert recently visited school). If it's the latter I would expect the info to be optimistic (e.g. "Recruit had an amazing time!" = CB flipped). CB flipping and hiding info for specific "insiders" is likely done to drive up subscriber rates or to gain more subscribers with the idea that 247, Rivals, etc has some exceptional info.
I agree that crystal balls are a method to drive interest and subscriptions. Fans look at the %s and go crazy because these guys are right more often than not, but the truth is there are only a couple realistic schools from early on for most players AND the 247 guys can switch their picks when the actual decision leaks.
the recruiting news services talk to prospects, coaches (college & HS), family, friends... basically anyone who might have some insight into what a prospect is thinking. Of course that varies from "He has made up his mind and is playing it cool until his announcement" to "he's not sure yet, but he really enjoyed his visit to _____ " to "he's not telling anyone anything, I have no idea".
The predictors still have to make a judgement call on the truthfulness, accuracy and weight of the info.
I would view them less as predictions and more of "here's my guess at this guy's #1 school at the current time"

All jokes aside. some of us fans just need to chill out and let the time go by. Of course CB's are going to go to PSU after a visit. Of course there are going to be sources saying he was blown away. No difference of what people probably heard from the outside when he came here for his visit(s).
Like others have said before, Dax got a bunch of CB's after his Stanford visit... last I checked he signed with VT.
I don't know if Ford will come here or not, but the early overreaction on here seem a bit premature and a little ridiculous. I get it, we have been here before and usually end on the bad side of these battles, but let it play out and don't fret about something almost a month out. Unless I hear differently from BAG or LAH, I am really not worried.

KJ I was here for and we made up huge gains but ultimately he was made to believe he was too big for VT.....as for Sweat I wasnt doing all this but I knew his mom was surprised about the choice, even had her nails painted in VT Colors.
