Last day as a Hokie. 2014-2018 have been great times spent in #HokieNation Excited to have helped increase NCAA's Longest Current Bowl Streak to 25In-State Rival Win Streak to 14.Thank you - Coach Beamer, John Ballein, @CoachFuente & HokiesFB Staff π¦ππ¦π#SwampBoundππβ Charlie Cantor (@ChuckCantor) April 27, 2018
Chuck has been the director of player development for last four years. He is a great behind the scenes staffer, this is a loss for the Hokies.

Best wishes to Chuck!
Man, that Florida AD must have his eye on our program - this is the 2nd poach of someone in the football program. Do we have someone in line to replace him, or is a search beginning?
I wonder if Devyn Ford's dad is available??
I agree, he has been putting in some good work with little recognition from most of the fanbase. Hopefully he had a talented understudy and we can promote someone up through the ranks. Best of luck to Chuck!
Hokie Fireman...you send in your resume yet?!
The only job my wife would move again for would be if I got the director of emergency services position.
Not sure how to feel about this - anyone have any insight on how key he's been to the program, or who might be a potential amazing replacement for him?
He was awful, that's why Florida hired him. /s
Chuck was outstanding at his position, he was great with players and recruits and this hurts the program.
Not to bark at the money issues, or lack of, but Florida's staff for this same position has at least 5 other people that are going to be just under Cantor..... from the rumors, its a large increase in pay.
I think we are really starting to see the limits of what VT can do right now due to funding. Too few people doing the jobs designed for many and burn out is quickly approaching. I don't know what the answer is but we are at the point now where VT will only improve if VT Alum contributions improve.
The rumbles are getting louder....

Is that a smash and grab?
Thanks for the clarity here. Honestly, I've been wondering when burnout would become an issue. Didn't seem like enough time in the day to do what they've been doing.
Wow, he had some great experience. He will, no doubt, be hard to replace.
He appeared to be doing a great job at Virginia Tech.
You're weekly reminder to join the Hokie Club!
Galen scott is also gone...

Hmmm....was Cantor also diggy1973?
downvotes? I thought it was funny.
It was.
When I threw up John Stewart it was at -1.
And with Cantor going to Florida, one of the places that seems to be mentioned in diggy's tirade, the plot only thickens.
This is probably /s, but Florida was one of Scott's recruiting territories. It's extremely unlikely that these events are related.
Yeah, in fact after sleeping (at my desk) on it, it's really only kinda funny if you don't think about it too hard. It's late on a friday and I'm really grasping here.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I hadn't seen this posted anywhere else here. There are reports that Cantor won't be retained at Florida after only a year.
From Football Scoop:
Edit: Link
There are some additional discussions going on at 247 but behind a paywall. His Twitter bio still lists Florida as his employer but he hasn't posted anything since this news broke on March 1st.
Meta Musing: I'm starting to wonder if old thread should be locked/archived after a certain amount of time has passed (from either the thread's creation, or the last time a new comment appeared on it) to avoid thread resurrection confusion. It seems to be an emerging problem.
I just don't see the problem. I always check the date of the original post. All comments have a time stamp. It really isn't confusing at all. It also allows someone to comment on new and relevant information without creating a brand new post, which would require rehashing much of the old post anyway. Now, maybe a 4 or 5 year old post deserves to be archived/locked, but less than a year old, no way.
I agree with you 100% no one cares enough about chuck cantor and what he has going on at UF to start a new thread. besides its an update to the original post. chuck was hired chuck was fired. at this point chuck being fired is unrelated hokie news really no reason at all to start a new thread.
Yeah, obviously if nobody else sees it as a problem, I'm off base. And it really wasn't anything specific to this thread that sparked the response, I've just noticed a lot of older threads being revived and decided to finally share my musings on this one.
Honestly, any time a TKPer writes something along the lines of either "sorry to bump an old thread", "I didn't know where else to post this", or "I didn't see this posted elsewhere", it's time to start a new dang thread. If said thread gets no traction, it'll die on its own. If it doesn't warrant a thread (very rare), a mod will delete it.
from what I heard he is no longer with UF currently. they brought in Keiwan Ratliff ex gator DB as the new "assistant" director of player personnel, and from all accounts ive heard is that he will take over prior to the 2019 season from a eh sauce for the gators (I don't follow gator football but my buddy that seems to be in the know about a lot of gator stuff told me about the cantor news before it broke and the Ratliff hiring before it broke). According to my buddy cantor wasn't doing much in the recruiting area.
Would we bring him back? Would we want him back? Would he work for less money? Are there any horse socks?
He's not coming back
